About this property

Sunlit Hills Art and Views | Amazing Mountain View

One part art museum, one part resort, one part luxurious private home, this magnificent property boasts all the perks of outdoor living in the glorious foothills just minutes from downtown Santa Fe.
Sunlit Hills Art and Views is exactly what its name promises: a gorgeous home perched in the foothills of southern Santa Fe. Filled with an eclectic collection of superb paintings, sculpture, and other artwork, and boasting absolutely drop-dead views of the mountains and desert. Staying here is an unforgettable pleasure, so exciting that you may have to tear yourself away to visit all the sights of northern New Mexico you promised to see on your trip! No worries -- despite its remote location with 365-degree views, Sunlit Hills Art and Views is just 7 miles (10 minutes by car) from the Plaza in the heart of Santa Fe!
From the moment you step inside this house, you know you are in for a treat. Every room is decorated with original artwork, and no matter how long you stay here, you will find yourself discovering a new favorite piece almost every day. Enter the main living room (there is also a den) and find yourself among not only ultra-comfortable leather sofas and chairs, a crackling kiva fireplace, and jaw-dropping views, but also surrounded by sculptures and paintings to enjoy in the changing light from the big New Mexico sky. Your vacation is going to be a very special one.
Instead of exploring the rest of the house, you may find yourself going straight out to the deck from the sliding-glass doors in the living room. Now, there are many outdoor spaces at Sunlit Hills Art and Views, but this deck will probably be your go-to spot first thing in the morning when you are clutching your coffee cup and wondering how you slept so long and so deeply. From this deck, you can see 50 miles across the Rio Grande Valley to the mountains. It's a view you will never tire of, for it changes every time you look at it.

Thank you for a most beautiful, memorable experience.

This property is welcoming, deluxe and extravagant yet comfortable. The artwork both inside and out is as breathtaking as the views from every room and deck. Easy drive to the Plaza. Looking forward to another holiday here in the future.

Amazing time in Santa Fe

We had a marvelous time in Santa Fe. We enjoyed time in Santa Fe but could also make day trips to places like Taos and Chimayo. We visited downtown Santa Fe and had some wonderful meals. I highly recommend Las Chozas, Cafe Pasquel's and Backroad Pizza. The house was amazing almost like a museum with such beautiful art and sculptures. The grounds were wonderful to walk around. Would tell anyone this is one of the best places I have ever stayed. If you just want to relax the house and grounds are all you need but if you want a little bit of culture you can have that as well.

Must book this VRBO art experience

This stay was more of an art experience than your typical rental. The entire house and grounds are full of countless pieces of fine art and sculpture and we were in awe through our entire stay. The views and outdoor space are spectacular and the interior of the home is spacious and comfortable. We didn’t even want to leave the rental to explore Santa Fe (we did but didn’t need to). The hot tub was icing on the cake and we spent many hours soaking and enjoying the peaceful and private outdoors. Our only complaint was that you have to pick up and return the key at a separate location, which wasn’t terribly convenient, but that would not keep us from booking again. Absolutely my favorite VRBO I’ve ever booked!!

Great house with a great management company

This house is absolutely amazing! The pictures are great, but it is even better in person. Kokopelli Property Management was also excellent to deal with.

The Most Beautiful Escape

This is a stunning property full of art and comfort. We had stayed last summer and remembered how much we loved it. It was even better the second time. The grounds are stunning and also full of art. We cooked a great Thanksgiving dinner and had plenty of room to relax, play games and enjoy each other’s company. The sunsets are not to be missed from the patio.

Hidden Gem

This was the perfect place to spend our week in Santa Fe. It was in a spot that was secluded enough for us to enjoy the patios and hot tub without worrying about neighbors, but was still close enough to town that we could visit each day. The space was FILLED with art that made each turn a discovery. The view was perfect and I felt very safe. Check-in could have been easier, because you have to go to the management property in town, but that was such a small thing, I wouldn’t hesitate to book this trip again.

Fantastic place to say, full of art pieces

You could spend half a day just roaming around looking at the art, it was a great place to stay for kids, they loved it! The check in is a bit inconvenient since you have to drive to the rental office in Santa Fe — since we are coming from the south, that adds another 30 minutes to the drive (because we have to go past the property going north, pick up the keys, and then drive south again). The views on the property are amazing. There are nice places to run around the house, if you’re into that sort of thing. Hot tub was functional and wonderful. We put a crib in the master bathroom closet and hung up a curtain to block the light, and it was comfortable for our two year old. The kitchen is pretty well stocked, the grill worked great.

Great place, close and beautful views

We were very happy to make the property home for the time we were there. The house was sizable for six, the beds were comfortable, there were multiple porches, and there was a hot tub! We went hiking multiple days, and we felt the view off the back porch was one of the best views we had the entire time.

Excellent Property

The house and property is excellent. View from the property was wonderful. The property also has walking trails with statues thoughtfully placed throughout the walk. This is an upscale home. One thing to note is the master bedroom and the second bedroom are upstairs. There were two people in my party who cannot do stairs so they slept in the 2 twin beds. My family thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this property! We recommend it!

Exactly the place we needed to be.

My husband and I, plus two dear friends —we are all in our late 60’s—spent a week in Santa Fe to celebrate being fully vaccinated and the end of a Minnesota winter. It was the perfect place to relax, enjoy the beautiful scenery and art-filled home and grounds. Very comfortable and spacious home. This was our first trip to New Mexico. We explored Santa Fe and took a day trip to Taos. (Unfortunately, a number of sites were still closed due to COVID.) We had one one of the best meals ever at Sazon in Santa Fe—would definitely recommend it.

Beautiful location

The property is amazing. Great views, acres of private trails with art strewn all along the trails (is it your style? Is there a style? You make the call! Either way it’s a ton of art.) Private hot tub, sand volleyball pit, fireplaces, etc. Some kinks to work out - hot tub was cold when we got there and took a day to get warm, couldn’t figure out how to use one of the bathtubs that had a weird fixture, and the property managers weren’t familiar with it so had to send someone in person to solve the riddle, even though it wasn’t broken. Older home but plenty serviceable.

Overall good

We actually loved the property. The grounds and views were breathtaking. Loved watching the sunset nightly from the back patio. A few major concerns however: 1. We were not able to use the hot tub due to it smelling terrible and were informed by mgmt that it had not been properly cleaned prior to our stay. 2. The home owners had outdoor cameras (that in itself is not an issue). We found out that once they would see that we left, their maintenance man would have access to the house and come in without our knowledge. Nothing was stolen, luckily as we did have many valuables on site. The majority of us left one day, but left behind one person who wanted to rest. Shortly after we left the maintenance guy shows up and was aggressively asking our friend why he was still there and that he was coming in to do work. Our friend told him, no, that he would have to come back and was greatly very poorly. I will say that the management company did a good job of taking care of this and we were refunded a portion of our stay. It would, however, make me hesitate booking this house again due to this issue. Unfortunate, because we really enjoyed the views and outdoor space. I do believe the management company has taken care of these issues, but I would request specifically to be notified if there are any plans for someone to be in the house while you are gone.

UNIQUE

This property is older and tired. That being said it is like putting on a favorite pair of older slippers. It is comfortable. The TV is only cable with few channels so bring your own Apple TV if you want to watch a movie. Same with music...there is a Bose speaker but its the first generation model so being an adapter or your Alexa. The Art around the house and the sculptures all over the property are intriguing and eclectic- it appears that the owners really support local artists! The hot tub was functional and inviting. We were here during the Covid19 shut down and therefore only take out was available so we did cook and the kitchen is functional. I did not like dealing with the property management company that operates this house. Everything communication was negative, not in the least hospitable. The house is located a very short distance out of the center of town with an incredible view and I would recommend it.

Gorgeous unique secluded property

We loved staying in this beautiful home. The spectacular collection of art combined with a clear appreciation of the natural beauty of the area made this an amazing place to come home to each day. We took daily walks around the large, secluded property and watched the spectacular stars from the patios at night The home was clean and well-stocked, and the setup was truly perfect. We hope to stay in this home whenever we visit the Santa Fe area again.

Amazing property

The grounds around this 6 acre site were breathtaking. The art outside and all the places to sit and relax were amazing. Large sculptures, a vineyard, fruit trees and walking paths. Wonderful views in all directions. The amenities inside the house were as good if not better than many highly rated hotels. We all agree we would stay here again.

amazing daytime views, wonderful star-gazing at night!!!

Wow pretty much sums up our stay at Sunlit Hills. Beautiful property located southeast of town. The house was decorated with lovely artwork inside, and the outside was basically a sculpture garden on 2-3 acres. It was fun to wander all over the property looking at the amazing collection of sculptures. While the artwork was outstanding, for us, the best part of staying at Sunlit Hills were the AMAZING VIEWS and star-gazing in the hot tub at night. The Milky Way was clearly visible every night, and we saw 10 meteors in one evening. The down side, it took forever to get anywhere because you always had to drive through the center of town. If we visit Santa Fe again, we will stay on the north side of town close to the bypass. As for escaping the Texas heat to play golf in cooler weather, the temps weren't cooler than Dallas in early Sept. We'll probably head back to Ruidoso next year. The golf courses were beautiful though. We played Black Mesa, Towa (Buffalo Thunder), and Cochiti. Black Mesa was well-maintained, but husband said the fairways were a little tight/skinny. Towa was having watering issues, so not much fun there. Cochiti was our favorite!!! Stunning views, a well-maintained course, friendly people, and even though they were super busy, play hardly slowed down. We loved every minute!
