Things nearby:
Mountain Glory Train Station and Train Rides
The Mountain Glory Station and The Glory Train is a miniature train and depot atop the beautiful Mena Mountain fourteen miles west of Mena, Arkansas. The Glory Train runs along two miles of track with stops along the way to view the southern vista or to click a picture of wildlife along its route. The attraction is located just 5 minutes from the Lazy Bear Cabin. They also have Miniature golf, snacks and an ice cream shop.
The train was started in the late 50’s by local businessmen seeking to add attractions to the Mena area. After nearly 60 years of running, the train is still going strong. Be sure to visit this attraction when you stay at our property!
Hiking Trails
There are many trails located close to the area. Lovers’ Leap Trail is a short one mile trail and is a must do. The trail got its name from a local legend of an American Indian maiden jumping to her death when her sweetheart failed to return from a battle. Lovers’ Leap Trail is atop Rich Mountain just 5 minutes from the cabin.
The Black Fork Mountain Wilderness Trail is a branch of the Ouachita Trail in the Ouachita National Forest and is located about 5 miles from the cabin. The trail crosses rugged terrain and summits atop Black Fork Mountain. Free parking at the trailhead. The total distance in and out is a bit over 11 miles so start early or make it a two day hike!
Talimena Scenic Drive and Byway
The Talimena Scenic Drive is a National Scenic Byway stretching 54 miles from Mena Arkansas to Talihina Oklahoma. Our cabin is located a short drive to the Scenic Byway and serves as a great sightseeing adventure. Head east and you will have about an 18 mile drive to Mena Arkansas or head west and you can drive another 36 miles of the byway. There are lots of things to see on the byway.
Rich Mountain Store and Restaurant
You won’t want to miss one of Steve’s hamburgers or the all day breakfast at the Rich Mountain Store! Have your burger any way you like (ask about their spicy burgers!) and a great breakfast served all day! Local flair and a country atmosphere makes this a have to do when staying at the Lazy Bear Cabin. Locals gather for a good game of dominoes and to tell a tale or two! They have some essentials at the store too!
Queen Wilhelmina Restaurant
We recommend dinner at the Queen’s Restaurant as it's only a short trip from our cabin up Rich Mountain. They have an all you can eat seafood buffet Friday and Saturday nights and great menu items. You can order your favorite wine, beer, or mixed drink with dinner here too.
The restaurant at Queen Wilhelmina serves delicious southern cuisine. Breakfast is served from 7 a.m. until 10 a.m. Lunch is served 11 a.m. until 4 p.m. Dinner is served from 5 p.m. until 9 p.m. Nearly no restaurant stays open past 9pm in this area so don’t be late!
The property is located near the Kansas City Southern railroad and there is a crossing 650 feet away from the property. We think this adds to the charm of the area. The area would have never been developed or accessible without the railroad so we are thankful that the train comes through the area. All of Mena also have train crossings and thus have trains with bells and whistles. Travelers who are not accustomed to trains may object to the noise and there is much less train traffic on weekends. They can be heard from almost any location within 10 miles of the rails. The approach in the Rich Mountain Area for the trains is also one of the steepest of any rail system in the mid western rail region.

We enjoyed the privacy, the proximity to Queen Wilhelmina State Park, and the convenience of the location. The cabin was very clean and comfortable. We enjoyed hearing the train!
We loved our stay! Nestled right in the mountains… beautiful scenery all around! House was clean and everything was as advertised would definitely stay again.
Property was clean land comfortable. Was a little closer to the highway than expected, but still able to relax on the porch and take in the scenery. Beautiful place!
The property was in a great spot. State park near by and Hot Springs was a nice drive to go visit. The house had everything we needed. I would recommend for anyone wanting to unwind. Very relaxing.
We had such a fantastic time at this property. It was the perfect place for our family getaway. Lots of towels available for our family of 6, noisemakers in every room which was a nice surprise to have for our kids. Great selection movies and games. Loved the screened in porch and the outdoor area.
So happy with our stay. We had a water issue and the owners were so fast in fixing it. We were really taken care of. Place was super clean and is a beautiful property. Oh, our at&t phones worked just fine too.
Loved our quick vacation before school started away in the peaceful mountains! The locals were friendly and there was plenty of activities and places to go nearby. House was clean and organized. Kids loved the pool table and great dvd movies to choose from. Definitely a great no electronics trip!
Nice cozy home. The minor details are it didn't have a blender and the stove needs a vent above it. The play room should bee a bit more wide for better pool table play. Other than that we loved our stay. Nice beds, perfect decor, plenty of towels and the play room was the cherry on top. This place is a definite recommendation.
Overall property well represented online.
The train noise was a lot and the owners have prepared for this by placing noise making machines in each bedroom, this helped us to fall back to sleep after the train blew their horn.
We had issues with getting into the rental due to a dead battery and or poor connection of the electronic lock. The owner responded quickly about the door issue and was ready to find us another place to stay as he had no one locally to help us. He helped us gain access to the home and we thought we had repaired the lock but unfortunately it was an issue all weekend. Owner was gracious and offered a modest refund for our inconvenience for the door not working properly.

Thanksgiving getaway
This is a good cabin If you’re coming to hunt or not stay at cabin all day. The cabin isn’t comfortable to spend every moment in. Know that the internet is spotty so unless you have a hot spot you will not be able to watch your shows. The microwave needs to be updated, the beds were comfortable, the main bathroom is nice and roomy. Very limited space for hanging clothes. No dishwasher - bring paper goods unless you want to wash dishes. Could use some new pots and pans. The house had a musty smell but it is an old renovated cabin/cottage. Overall it had just about anything you needed plus some. It truly backs up to national forest. The train crossing is directly across the street. We loved the sound of the train echoing. This place has lots of character. Owners or manager texted us the night before our arrival letting us know it was ready for when we arrived. We have AT&T and as long as we turned Wi-Fi off we had a decent signal at the front and back of home. It’s definitely a cool place and for older kids to roam, etc. Definitely God’s country.
We went on a motorcycle trip and stayed here. Great location close to the scenic drive. Also enjoyed a game of pool while we waited on the weather to clear up. I’d definitely stay here again!
Remarkably clean inside. Loved the amenities as well. Very
Overall we had a great time. Loved the isolation being 12 miles from town. Highway noise was an initial distraction but only during peak traffic and even then was limited. Trains were noteworthy but a limited distraction. The mountains surrounding us, limited technology access and just peace was so welcoming for our escape. Definitely recommend. House was really clean.
This cabin was just what I needed. Remote with a beautiful view. Everything inside the cabin was perfect, beds were very comfy, had no issues with phone signal. It was a great escape and I enjoyed every minute.
Comfortable cabin in the mountains. Very close to some Arkansas and Oklahoma State Parks. It snowed the weekend we stayed and it was absolutely beautiful. My daughter LOVED the bunkbeds and the pool table! We definitely enjoyed our weekend.
My family and I enjoyed our stay! I give it 5 stars!! Only complaint would be to upgrade the mattresses in all rooms. I still give it 4 stars!! Will definitely be back!! The place was very homey!
We had a great weekend getaway. My husband and I, along with my cousin and her husband wanted a secluded weekend away without kids. This was the perfect place to relax and unwind. The cabin was clean and nice. Thanks for having us!
Location was perfect for our purpose. House was comfortable. Only negative was smell of well water. Would suggest to owners that a softener/conditioner be added to well to eliminate the rotten egg smell. Views were gorgeous & enjoyed the greenery surrounding the property.
