Escape to cozy remote cabin on lake with beautiful views
Wonderful 1960 traditional cabin on gorgeous secluded lake. 520 sq ft with all wood interior, large windows and a big front porch. A short boat ride from public access or canoe ride brings you the to cabin with ample dock space and where a large fire-pit awaits you and a sand box for the little ones. We also have a few kayaks for your use. A short hike will bring you out to the point - a very special place of interest on the island where you can have coffee in the morning or a few drinks after a long day. I love to read, knit, draw, and view all the birds and the nesting eagle on the island while listening to the loons and enjoy a sunrise or a gorgeous sunset! There is a lovely traditional Swedish sauna building with shower and dressing area. We keep the wood shed stocked up for the sauna and for the fire-pit. The wood is directly behind the shed - easy access. Great fishing lake from dock or out on the lake. 1 bedroom with king bed and a double pull out couch in living room. Full kitchen with everything you need to cook inside or grill outside on deck or at the fire-pit beside lake. Great place to fry up those fresh fish after a long day on the lake. No interior bathroom, but a clean lovely outhouse not far from the cabin. A truly rustic experience! A very short car ride will bring you into the very special town of Ely for shopping, food, and anything you might want to experience in small town living! You will also be very close to the Boundary Water Canoe area for great exploration and photos! Day trips or overnights as well with guides if needed. Ely offers plenty of options for you

Very much enjoyed my stay at this charming rustic island cabin on a gorgeous lake. The dock and decks by the lake were great for water sports and hanging out. Sunsets on the point were a highlight. Would definitely stay here again.
This was our family’s second time staying at Cindy’s cabin and it was just as perfect as the first time! The lake is beautiful, great for fishing! We love the sauna and being able to swim right off the dock-especially after the sauna. The cabin is clean and cozy with everything needed for a great stay. Cindy is a communicative and thoughtful host. We will be back!
We had a fabulous stay at this little gem! The hosts were amazing! Location was perfect! The bed was so comfy It had everything we needed!
We hope to be back!
This was our second stay here! Enjoyed the clean, rustic cabin which is nicely equipped with all of the essentials! The view is amazing! We spent most of trip on the dock system or attached deck! Would highly recommend this for a quiet getaway!
This was a great spot for a quick getaway. We loved the deck, the dock, and the views. It's on a lovely island that is easy to get to but still feels far away. The king-size bed is super comfortable. It was great to feel like you are in the wilderness but still have a nice bed!
This was such a great fishing trip for my dad and me! We had an absolute blast. The views were stunning, the cabin was cozy and super well maintained, the communication from the host and team was timely, and overall, it was a great experience. I would highly recommend to anyone who’s looking to get away and relax or go fishing! We had great success and even got to feed the bald eagles that sat in a tree just 150 yards across from the cabin. Huge thanks to the amazing hosts!!!
What a perfect base camp/cabin if you're looking north woods adventure. It was everything I expected and more. We swam and fished every day from the dock. Cabin has all you need to cook and eat. Where use to camping in the BWCA so this was a luxury to be able to cook indoors with a the equipment. Great deck for enjoying meals and fire pit for s'mores at night. The sauna was a slice of heaven. Our whole family had a blast!
Stayed in this small island cabin on Bear Island Lake for three nights. The house is awesome with a king sized bed, pull out couch, and a small love seat. The patio and fire ring were the areas mostly used by us because there is little reason to be inside. Everything we needed in the kitchen was provided. Very clean, nice, but rustic at the same time. We had no problems with the stairs. The host is also a super awesome lady. The whole process was seamless and super easy. She met us at the boat ramp and everything was ready to go. I wish we could have stayed longer.
One of the coolest places I have stayed.
We just finished an amazing stay on the island. The cabin, point, lake, sauna, dock, are even better than expected. We felt right at home and had everything we needed on hand. All you need to do is bring your food, clothes, bait and poles. The sauna was incredible and the lake is so clean it felt amazing to jump in and swim right from the dock. If lake swimming isn't for you, you can use the shower in the sauna to clean off. The best fishing on the lake is right by this cabin. We enjoyed fresh fish for a couple of nights during our stay. We hope this becomes the place we can come back to year after year. Thank you to Cindy for sharing this special place with us. We are grateful for the time and refreshed for our regular lives.
P.S. We rented a pontoon boat for our stay but you could easily stay on this island by using the canoe or renting a small fishing boat.
My family of 3 (myself, husband and 17 year old son) rented the cabin on Bear Island Lake for a week and had a blast.
Everything about the rental process was such a pleasant experience. Cindy is kind, helpful, and generous. We have been renting vacation cabins for many years and have never experienced her level of attentiveness.
The cabin is just as described in the listing but better in person, very clean, cozy and lovable! Even though there is no indoor bathroom (no big deal to us, the outhouse was very nice), the sauna/shower room made it easy to wash up and the lake water system for the kitchen sink was convenient for dishwashing. It never really felt as though we were “roughing it”. We also appreciated the super comfy bed!
The location on the lake was beautiful, and being close to the public boat launch made it easy to get our gear to the island as well as canoe/kayak over when we wanted to leave the lake. The lake was great for fishing (one of the most important criteria for my fishing-obsessed husband and son) and also great for swimming-usually you don’t get both, so that was a treat!
I could go on and on about our whole experience but to sum it up, we fell in love with the place and will definitely return someday to relive the great memories we made. Honestly, I can’t think of a single thing I would change about our experience. Wish we were closer than 12 hours away so we could come back often and in other seasons. This is a lake cabin done right. Thanks Cindy for a wonderful vacation!
CLOSE TO BOAT LANDING, CABIN WAS CLEAN, STAIRS A BIT TENUOUS. GREAT PROPERTY

I came to Bear Island lake in Minnesota as a VRBO customer a few years ago and fell in love with the island, the cabin, and the town of Ely. I had visited the area as a child and always wanted to come back as an adult for a visit with my family. After a few trips with my husband and dogs we decided to buy the cabin as it had been on the market. We visit as often as we can and thought it would be so nice to share such a magical place with other people. We also enjoy the winter after the lake freezes to enjoy the beauty of winter, and snowshoeing all over the lake. Our wood-burning stove keeps the cabin very warm and comfortable.
Why they chose this property
Our cabin is on an island with only 1 other cabin. We have a wonderful view of the lake and we are fortunate to enjoy a short walk to the point of the island which looks out onto the entire lake. It is my favorite part of the island. Listening to the loons and viewing the Bald Eagle which likes to park directly across from the point to look for food. Great fishing on the point of the island. It is also a very short boat ride from the public dock making it convenient to get back and forth when we want to go to town or other areas for great hiking.
