About this property

Hillside Heaven - Hot tub, pool table, firepit

Welcome to Hillside Heaven! You're sure to love this log cabin with mountain views, hot tub, and pool table that sits just above and across the road from the New River. Access to the New River, one of the oldest rivers in the world and the only river in North America that flows South to North, is at the Big Hill Community Park just a short drive from the cabin and is perfect for tubing, rafting, fishing, and more. There are outfitters who host rafting and tubing trips, as well as guided fishing trips on the New River (as well as the other nearby rivers). This is a special treat in the spring, summer and fall!

The cabin itself is three stories, and the main level features the living area with soaring vaulted ceilings with tongue-in-groove, wood floors and walls, HDTV, and stone wood-burning fireplace. Glass doors look out at mountain views, and lead out onto an open-air deck with seating, dining, and a gas grill. The adjacent kitchen and dining area sit under exposed beams and wood ceilings. Dine 12 total inside with 8 at the dining table and up to 4 more at the adjacent kitchen bar top. Also on the main level is the master bedroom suite with a King bed and HDTV, and a private ensuite full bathroom.

Upstairs boasts two Queen bedrooms and a Jack & Jill full bathroom with a jetted tub and separate shower, accessible from both upstairs bedrooms. Both bedrooms have vaulted ceilings and exposed beams, full closets and Queen beds, and have doors which lead directly into the shared full bathroom. (In Spring 2022, one of the bedrooms was closed off from the loft due to guest feedback, ensuring that both guest bedrooms upstairs are private.)

Downstairs features another bedroom suite, with two sets of Twin over Twin bunk beds as well as an ensuite full bathroom which can also be accessed from the den and game room. Also downstairs is a den and game room with a pool table, gas log fireplace, HDTV, Nintendo Switch system, comfy sofas, and lots of games to enjoy. Glass doors lead out onto a covered deck with hot tub, with exterior steps down to the yard with the firepit area.

In addition to the New River access, hot tub, pool table, two fireplaces and mountain views; Hillside Heaven offers its guests central heat and AC, a laundry area with washer and dryer, TV and DVD player, WiFi internet, and a newly updated outdoor wood-burning fire pit! Hillside Heaven provides the character and charm of a log cabin, yet with the comforts and amenities of a modern vacation destination. This cabin offers fun and convenient activities for guests to enjoy during all of the four seasons! The town of Boone is only 8 miles away, and Blowing Rock is about 15 miles away. Both Tweetsie Railroad and Appalachian Ski Mountain are conveniently close by, located half-way between Boone and Blowing Rock. The Blue Ridge Parkway is less than 10 miles from Hillside Heaven, and the village of Valle Crucis - with the original Mast General Store, and its massive riverfront town park - is about 16 miles away. Grandfather Mountain is about 20 miles away, and Hawksnest Snow Tubing and Zip Lines is only 21 miles away. Snow skiing, sledding, and snowboarding are convenient to Hillside Heaven! In addition to App Ski Mtn, Sugar Mountain Ski Resort and Ski Beech are 25 and 30 miles away, respectively.

Good stay

We unfortunately were not able to utilize the fire pit due to a burn ban even though it rained on the day of our arrival, and the hot tub cover looked like it was one touch away from breaking in half so out of fear of being charged the $500 replacement cover fee, we didn’t utilize the hot tub either. Still a great stay! Awesome location and good communication

Perfect for our family!

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Hillside Heaven! We were in the area for a family wedding and wanted a place where a group of our extended family (7 adults, 5 children, and 3 dogs) could stay as an alternative to a hotel. This property was excellent. There was plenty of space for all of us-- the lower level family/game room was perfect! Everyone enjoyed the hot tub and the pool table. The location was great and the area is beautiful. This was one of the cleanest and most well-stocked rental properties I've visited; there were more than enough linens and towels for everyone and it was a huge bonus that beach towels were provided for the hot tub. There was even a hairdryer and an iron/ironing board upstairs, neither of which I expected to find! There were a few minor repair issues that we have made the property manager aware of, in particular the fact that the upstairs windows seem to have broken sashes (one wouldn't stay open, and three others were extremely difficult to get open). We ended up using the A/C, so the window situation wasn't a problem for us in the long run. Overall, we had a great stay and were very happy with the house!

Great location

We really enjoyed out stay at Hillside Heaven. The kitchen was stocked well enough for our food choices. There were a few things broken but not a huge deal. Hopefully they will be fixed for future renters. We loved walking down the hill to the river. The house wasn't far from town. We enjoyed the quiet community.

Sweet 16 Celebration

My husband and I booked this property for our daughter surprise Sweet 16 trip. We had 4 teenagers and 5 adults. It was great cabin, plenty of room and the pool table and hot tub were a hit for all ages. Kitchen and linens were some of the best stocked I’ve had in a rental place. Only “surprise” was that the loft bedroom wasn’t completely closed in and had one wall open to the rest of the house. I don’t remember this being in the cabin description or pics. Had we had another adult couple. This could have posed a big inconvenience. Otherwise, the cabin was great and we would definitely recommend staying here.

Beautiful!

We had a great stay! The cabin was clean and well stocked. We loved the view and the location. Perfect for just hanging out, taking long walks, or traveling into town. Close to everything, yet secluded enough to be relaxing. We had fun playing pool, sitting in the hot tub, and playing games with the family. Love this place!

Not quite as expected

Nice enough - but there are some issues. Pictures make it look large -- it is not. Bedroom upstairs is TINY - should have bunk beds because you literally can't put a carry on anywhere -- you can barely walk around the bed - extremely small and an extremely hard bed - not for adults. Other bedroom upstairs with half wall - great size but should at least have a curtain or something to give privacy. Futon on loft area was a good older kid spot. Main floor - Small kitchen - tight entrance/exit right by the fridge - no dish towels; no garbage bags; Decent supply of pans / pots - not much silverware for a big family. Many outlets throughout house had 1/2 that didn't work; bathroom floor upstairs dirty when arrived; Carpet downstairs had crumbs on it when we arrived. Many neighbors close by - could hear talking and laughing - no flat area for outside "play" except firepit area (which was a good size) with old chairs that were tossed around. Decks have a few very nice chairs and some not so nice. Hot tub good. Nice enough house (nice to have TV upstairs and down), but you need a family that doesn't mind being on top of each other. I'd say this is an all around 3 to 4 out of 5. Housekeeping would help and reality in advertising would help.

Loved the property! Clean, great layout, good location! Did have a problem with electronic door 🔒. Wasted time trying to make it work. Property was great but door lock didn't work.
