Cozy Cottage

It was a wonderful location and beautiful neighborhood. A cozy cottage with lots of vintage charm. Loved it! Wish I could have stayed longer.

Labor Day trip

Me and my dad stayed over Labor Day weekend and a few days after for a hiking and kayaking trip. The location of the home was incredible with a short walk to the beach and incredible views of the water from the end of the street. The home has a cute 1950’s charm to it. It is a quick drive to Indiana dunes national park as well as new buffalo. My one item of note would be that the home Needed some updating. There is one bathroom in the home and it needs some improvements. But otherwise the home felt very cozy and like a beautiful step back in time.

Old house with charm, great location

We enjoyed this house and for the most part it worked for us. The only problem we had was the oven did not work or maybe we didn’t know how to work it as it is an older style oven. We loved that the house has a screened in porch and is a 5 minute walk to the beach. This house is great for a small family who doesn’t mind the old fashioned home feeling.

The homes were close together, yet felt private because of the wooded area they were in. Friendly people and the beach area nearby was not too crowded. Most restaurants were within 15 to 20 minute drive. The time difference between Michigan and Indiana was a bit confusing because my cell phone kept switching back and forth. Overall great stay.

Nice area, decent place, but tough stay.

The place is in a wonderful area and the beach right down the street has a phenomenally scenic view. The place is nice enough, not as much so as the photos however - the cleaning was an issue and so was the door. We arrived to the place easy enough, but when opening the door, the lock physically wouldn’t turn; it took an hour of working it for it to finally give in (not fix, actually give in) and turn. Maintenance did come out to the place but only sprayed some WD-40 on it, commenting that the property owners were told to replace the tough lock multiple times. The house was musty upon arrival (fixed with lowering the AC all night) and the silverware wasn’t fully clean + had hair on them. Things got taken care of, and Vacasa was SUPER communicative, along with our stay still being enjoyable… but damn was it a tough sell to start.

Disappointing

What was great: the fireplace, the spaciousness, the many windows, the area is beautiful, and being literally steps from the lake. What wasn’t: a bit too many things, unfortunately. Walking in, the place smelled of mold. All the curtains were drawn so it was dark and not welcoming. There were signs everywhere about what not to do. There’s a ring of dirt around the entire perimeter of the kitchen floor. There was a rushing noise behind the basement door so we were too weirded out to open it. There’s a ground wire sticking out of an outlet, wrapped around a faceplate screw. The oak floors, albeit beautiful, were filthy. Doors stick and don’t shut well. There’s an 8 foot long crack in the ceiling at a structural point. The bathroom was unpleasant. While the sink and toilet appeared clean, the floor around the toilet was gross and the vinyl made the whole room feel dirty. The shower grout, the falling-apart caulk, and dirty shower liner were all moldy, the in-wall soap dish rusted, and a shower wall is bowing in which is very bad. My husband refused to shower there. We weren’t comfortable, wondering what else might be icky. The laminated cards with area and check out info fell behind the kitchen cabinets so I couldn’t be sure I got everything done. Considering the painfully high cleaning fees alone were more than the rate of our two nights’ stay, I can’t say I feel bad if I did miss anything as we paid a lot for cleaning and the place was already dirty.

Convenient, very functional base for enjoying a Lake Michigan vacation

The house is modest, but in very good repair (everything works!), clean, with a fully functional kitchen, comfortable beds, air conditioning, and lots of space. Wi-Fi works well (important for us, as cell service in this area for our service provider - T-Mobile - is very poor). It's a short block from the shore, and very close to access to a public beach. We brought our dog (border collie), and all had a really nice week here! Highly recommended!

Great location to beach

The walking distance to the beach and cleanliness of the main floor are about all this home has to offer UNLESS you’re adventurous and enjoy an extremely steep climb down to the water laden, musty-snarling basement to utilize the washer/dryer and/or the advertised second bathroom. If you don’t mind the live cockroach and hair left behind in the shower down there, this may be your place. Bath towels also came with tenants of previous users. It was gross!

Perfect location, perfect host

The location of this cottage is perfect. A short walk to the beach, beautiful neighborhood, and close to everything you want or need for a Lake Michigan vacation. I want to point out that both Adam and Maria were amazing. Both very professional and helpful in every way. Maria made sure we had everything we needed and when the area lost power, she made sure we were okay and made as comfortable as she was able to do. We will be back and look forward to next year

Beautiful area. Rustic house was fine but dirty. Huge dust bunnies. We went to the trouble of separating recyclables from trash in outside marked bins and then someone combined everything and set one bin out for trash pickup

Great location

We loved being so close to the beach. The property was fine for us. We had some trouble with the refrigerator not keeping stuff cold and the bathroom sink wouldn't drain but neither of these problems were all that serious, and Vacasa did have someone come to fix the sink and give us coolers to keep our food in. We ended up staying an extra day because we loved being there so much, so although it wasn't a flawless stay, we enjoyed our stay and would stay again.
