## Neighborhood
The Gratte-Ciel buildings in Villeurbanne were inaugurated in June 1934 and are 80 years old. A social and architectural landmark, this group of public buildings and social housing, with modern perspectives for its time, has become an emblem of the city.
Villeurbanne offers all the advantages of a big city in a greener and quieter environment, with direct proximity to the chic 6th arrondissement and the Part-Dieu district. With metro, tram, or bus access, you will be able to quickly reach all Lyon districts thanks to the numerous public transport options available.
Villeurbanne benefits from a rich and lively neighborhood life: young people, families, and retirees, with many cultural venues, sports complexes, associations, shops, schools, high schools, and universities.
The diversity of its inhabitants is what makes Villeurbanne unique and rich. With a strong cultural heritage, Villeurbanne is home to historic sites such as the Gratte-Ciel buildings, City Hall, the National Popular Theatre, the Anatole France School, the House of Image and Sound, Studio 24, the Astroballe (ASVEL), and the former Bayard and Bally factories. The city continues to evolve with new neighborhoods like the Terrain des Sœurs, where our current program is being developed.
Culture: With varied venues and major events that create a convivial and creative atmosphere, the city hosts public or private theaters (TNP, Théâtre de l’IRIS), the National School of Music, concert halls (Toï Toï Le Zinc and the Transbordeur), the Institute of Contemporary Art (IAC), an independent cinema (Le Zola), cultural centers (Rize and CCO), a Ninkasi like in Lyon, the House of Image and Sound (the city library), Les Invites, the short film festival, and the youth book festival.
Sports: Many sports facilities, including the Astroballe for our basketball champions!
