## Neighborhood
Explore this sloping neighborhood
Located in the 1st arrondissement of Lyon, the district extends from the Jardin des Plantes to the top of the Croix-Rousse hill. It marks the famous passage between the city of Lyon and the village of Croix-Rousse.
The neighborhood revolves around the Montée de La Grand-Côte, which almost vertically connects Place des Terreaux to Boulevard de la Croix-Rousse. To the west lies the Chartreux district with its gardens overlooking the Saône, while to the east, the Montée Saint-Sébastien, Gros Caillou esplanade, and Place Bellevue offer stunning views of Parc de la Tête d’Or and the Alps.
Things to do in the Pentes de la Croix-Rousse
The neighborhood is a playground for children with several green spaces, such as Jardin Croix-Paquet, Les Chartreux, Sutter, and the Jardin des Plantes.
It also offers great spots for outings with family or friends, including good addresses like:
Les Fromagivores
Sabaï Sabaï
Mère Brazier (classic)
The Pentes is full of lovely shops to explore along its narrow streets.
Food:
There are many small neighborhood grocery stores just a few minutes walk away:
Vival (rue Pouteau),
Epicerie Le Coq Marquet Forez,
L'Epicerie des Capucins.
Monoprix Daily (rue du président Edouard Herriot, near Place des Terreaux),
Maison Eric Kayser bakery (5 minutes from the Opéra) and O Tao Bom bakery (Place Croix Paquet).
For dessert, try Unico ice cream with seasonal flavors and homemade popsicles.
Restaurants and Cafés:
Just 5 minutes walk, don’t miss the small Mexican restaurant Go Mex Cantina (rue des Capucins) with its charming terrace and fresh, spicy Mexican cuisine.
On the same square, check out Tralala for small bites, and La Boite à Café for a sweet break.
Also, just 6 minutes walk away, enjoy the beautiful Villa Villemanzy, which offers a panoramic view of Lyon from its terrace and veranda, with fine and flavorful cuisine.
For a veggie but delicious option, try Les Mauvaises Herbes, with fresh shareable plates and attentive staff. Great selection of organic and natural wines.
Bars and Music:
Two renowned jazz spots in Lyon:
La Clé de Voute (more intimate atmosphere),
Le Bec de Jazz (more festive) – both 5 minutes walk away, with many live music events on weekdays and weekends.
Cultural and Attractions:
Visit the Jardin des Plantes and the Amphitheatre of the Three Gauls, with its Gallo-Roman ruins right at the foot of the apartment.
Explore the vintage boutiques in the area: Carrie Bradshop, Jimmy Vintage, and Fripes Ketchup.
Fashion enthusiasts can also visit the nearby Passage des Créateurs, which showcases emerging eco-conscious brands in fashion, textiles, and home décor.
