NEW LISTING!
Anyone who has ever visited the Clark Island area of Saint George knows what a magical place it is at all times of the year. Quiet and out of the way but so close to the activities and events that happen in neighboring towns and cities like Tenants Harbor, Port Clyde, Rockland, Thomaston, Rockport and Camden. Rocky Bay is located on Scraggle Point Road – a rustic road winding through spiky conifers and ancient granite ledge. Scraggle Point juts out into Wheeler Bay (locally, also known as Wheeler’s Bay) where you see and hear all the things “Maine” that called you here in the first place. You will see sailboats glide by, lobster boats gear up in the early morning heading out into Muscongus Bay, paddle boarders explore the inner parts of the harbor; you will hear loons at dawn and dusk, hear the water ripple as schools of fish skim through the water, leaves rustle in the salty breeze…and not much else. Rocky Bay sits on 1.7 acres with 325 feet of waterfrontage and gives you little reason to leave during your visit. Inside, Designer Amy Dutton created serenely comfortable and chic living spaces and outside well, nature took care of that…uninterrupted and endless views of the open ocean from decks, patio and lawn areas. Think shaded Adirondack chairs under the canopy of leafy trees, lining the picnic table with newspaper in preparation for a late afternoon lobster bake and swinging on a swing with an unbeatable view. Rocky Bay has a private dock and float just steps from the front door; swim, fish, kayak, paddle board, dip your toes in the water…or bring your own boat for cruising the waters of Muscongus Bay (a deep water mooring is available for rent). A private beach on the property is a favorite feature of Rocky Bay; search for sea glass, collect rocks, look for sea life hidden under the seaweed or in tidal pools left behind as the tide goes out. There are 5 bedrooms (each are named for a flower or plant that can be found on the property) and 3.5 bathrooms– all equally appealing in both form and function – spread throughout Rocky Bay. The apartment over the garage has two bedrooms and bath. Then two bedrooms on the second floor of the main house and one bed and bath on the first floor. The house feels as good for 2 people as it does for 12. Morning coffee on the screen porch, outdoor play during the day and relaxing under the stars are just a few reasons to come to Rocky Bay. Perfect getaway

We had 3 generations of family staying at this home for a long weekend. Everything was perfect-the home had everything we needed. We spent a lot of time in the Adirondack chairs enjoying the beautiful view.

Beautiful Maine Experience

We've stayed in properties across the country and in Canada, and this honestly is the best house that we've ever stayed in. It is more like staying at a boutique hotel. Every bedroom had a lovely basket of goodies to enjoy. One wing of bedrooms had a mini-kitchen near-by which was great to make coffee in before the rest of the house was awake. The house is on a working harbor -- we loved hearing the lobster boats leave in the am. Sitting on the porch or down by the ocean with a glass of wine in the evening was wonderful. The kitchen was so fun to cook in. We explored the nearby lighthouse and bought amazing seafood to cook for dinner. We wished we could have stayed longer!

Above and beyond

The homeowners have gone above and beyond with this property - beautiful home, easy check in, incredibly well stocked kitchen, creature comforts (nespresso in kitchen, goodie baskets in all the rooms, etc), small touches like fresh milk in the fridge - basically anything you could think of from a full service luxury hotel was here. Thank you for an easy, relaxing and enjoyable stay with an absolutely incredible view!

Perfect in every way, immaculate house, gorgeous views

Such a tranquil spot with all of the amenities you need to get away from it all. It was so nice to have 3 generations under one roof. So much room to spread out, places to read, to play, and watch Tv without encroaching on each other’s space. Though we didn’t kayak or use the paddle boards we did spend lots of time reading, fishing and exploring the area. Don’t miss Mcloon’s lobster shack. Absolutely the best lobster roll we have ever had. We spent a day in Camden with all of their wonderful shops and a day trip down to the Maine botanical gardens with a stop in Boothbay harbor. So many wonderful towns. Thank you so much for sharing your lovely home with us. I am sorry we had to cut out trip short but not without making good use of your beautiful property.

About the host

Hosted by Amy Dutton

Host profile image
I'm a designer in Seacoast of Southern Maine and New Hampshire and we live in Portsmouth, NH. My husband and I bought the house and named it Rocky Bay in 2018 then renovated it during the winter. Our goal with the house is to entertain family and friends and spend the holidays with our three grown children. It is a wonderful place to get away to and unwind. We love the Maine rocky coast and fir trees. Hiking, boating, swimming are just a few of our favorite things to do and all can be done at Rocky Bay.

Why they chose this property

Situated in a unique location of open ocean and a tranquil bay. We are fortunate enough to have a deep water dock and a sandy beach - very unique to the area. At the 1.0 mark of a quiet private road but only 22 minutes from Rockland, Maine Art district, food and shopping and a sweet walk through nature also close to ferries to the islands.

What makes this property unique

Enjoy our paddleboards and kayaks and paddle out to islands and beaches then refresh yourself in our outdoor shower. Enjoy the dock and float by just relaxing or taking your boat out on the water. We do offer a deep water mooring - please contact us for more information (available for an additional $2,200 fee) The float goes to 36" at low tide typical. We have relationships with vendors that you might be interested, if you are interested in something unique like a custom lobster bake just let us know and we can arrange that for you.
