Our family of eight enjoyed a relaxing week refueling and reconnecting at this beautiful home and lake. It is quiet and secluded. We spent our days fishing, kayaking, playing games, reading and star gazing. We really liked the modern kitchen and bathrooms as well as the spacious common areas. I would highly recommend it!
A vacation at this house is both peaceful and relaxing. Listening to the loons was delightful as we had never heard them before. There was even a bald eagle that came around to the trees close to the house every day! We had fun fishing and floating around in the lake. A major downfall during our stay is that the hot tub was not clean (the water was green) for the majority of our stay. A big reason that we chose this property was for the hot tub. Alan was great with communication and attempted to come and fix the problem but it turned green again within 2 days of him coming out. There was also a problem with the water pressure in the house but he had that taken care of while we were there and we had no more problems with that. Overall we had a nice stay and would recommend this house!
We had our adult kids and grandkids for the week. The house had everything you could want and enough space that we were able to enjoy quiet time if needed. We would rent again.
That being said, there was no flat area to set up our annual cornhole championship game or badminton but remarkably we survived! lol. There is a very large snapping turtle, Timmy, that frequents the dock while fishing. We still swam but it did put a damper on the carefree swimming we anticipated. There’s a quaint town beach in Winthrop just 15 minutes away we used that.
The hot tub was a good way to cool down as well. It was a hot week and the air conditioning was awesome!
Alan’s property was beautiful. Very spacious for a family with teenagers. The pool table was a lot of fun as well as the kayaks. We had an issue with the hot water. I contacted him and within 5 minutes he called and he told us what switch to flip. All was resolved so quickly. We were very appreciative!
We loved everything about it and are already looking forward to booking again for next year. Thank you so much for sharing your beautiful property with us.
We had an excellent stay at the property. It was 100% accurate to the listing. We were serenaded with loons both morning and night, my husband caught a huge bass right off the dock, the neighbors were super nice and the lake is calm and quiet. The house is spacious and the little details the owners included like quality soaps and shampoos, big fluffy towels, plenty of life jackets and beach towels as well as canoes and kayaks made the stay even better. Definitely would stay again.
We were very pleased with the house and location. The house was very clean when we arrived. It's very pretty and I love the open floor plan.
The pond was very nice. Unfortunately the weather did not cooperate for the majority of the week but we made the best of it.
There is a bakery 2 miles away you have to check out! Wish we had discovered it earlier in the week. They also have prepared meals which were amazing.
Alan is a great host and responded promptly when we reached out :)
We enjoyed our stay! We fished off the dock and used the kayaks. The loons could be heard each day and we saw an eagle soar from near the dock to across the lake! The lake was very quiet with few other boats. The pool table was a hit with our family. We had dinner at some of the local towns. Thank you for sharing your home with us!
This place is amazing! Secluded, peaceful, and full of nature which was exactly what we were looking for and needed. The house was beautiful with plenty of space and every amenity you could need. Alan was a fantastic host!
I was seeking a quiet place and found it. This property, nestled away on the edge of a lake offers so much. I stayed for six weeks and enjoyed all of it, including the serenity, the friendly deer passing through, the loons, the giant kitchen island and well stocked kitchen. Alan was a pleasure to rent from. The internet was solid and supported my remote work even through storms. Will definitely stay again.
First off I have to say we are definitely coming back! The host is amazing and very accommodating. They provided everything that we needed from shampoo, conditioner, body wash, paper towels, toilet paper, bath towels, etc. I did bring some items because I didn’t want to use all of the host items, but the host does offer some really nice (Trader Joes) quality products. Whenever I emailed Alan to ask a question there was a quick response. (The person who left the one bad review don’t pay attention to. We did not have one bad experience.)
The pictures does this place no justice. It is absolutely stunning. It is very clean. It is on the lake with beautiful views. We went during February vacation for some skiing and relaxation.
The pool table and board games kept my two kids(11 and 13) busy. I never heard they were board once.
The hot tub was very clean and had easy to follow directions. There was even a fire pit that we could roast marshmallows on with the kids. You just have to look for it. It is halfway down the path on the right to the pond. We had to do some digging because of the snow but the kids LOVED roasting marshmallows in the snow.
Make ice cream!!!! The recipe is very easy to follow.
We skied and went out to eat. I gave the owner, Alan, a write up of each place we went to, so just ask.
You DEFINITELY need 4 wheel drive if coming in the winter months.
All in all, I have to say that Maine is the place to vacation.
This is our second time renting the house, and everyone loves it! Everyone had a good time in the lake, in the hot tub, and listening to the loons at night. I recommend staying here if you're looking to get away and enjoy the outdoors!
This is a wonderful lakefront house on a quiet lake. It has everything one would want in amenities, from an assortment of kayaks and canoes to a billiard table. The water is clean thanks to aquatic plants. There is a great dock with a built in bench and a swimming pontoon a short swim from the end of the dock. It has a very nice deck facing the lake and a wooden patio; a perfect place to enjoy the loons while eating. The kitchen is well stocked and the well decorated interior is spacious and modern. We had a fabulous time and definitely want to return. Thanks for sharing your home!
What a wonderful lake home! This property was everything it said it would be! Beautiful home, well stocked with everything you would need for a stay at the lake. It was roomy, plenty of space for our family and friends. The beds were comfortable, everything was clean and there were many extras provided. Lots of games for families, the pool table and wall scrabble was a lot of fun. The deck was a wonderful place to sit and drink coffee and watch the lake and baby robins.
We enjoyed boating on the lake all week. There were plenty of life jackets, beach towels and even some fishing gear.
We loved watching the baby robins being cared for by their parents and they even flew the nest the day before we left.
The only suggestion we have is that a second couch upstairs would make this place a bit more comfortable for larger families.
It was the perfect place to rest and enjoy time together with family and friends. Thank you for sharing your home with us.
We had a wonderful stay in Mount Vernon at Alan’s property. The house was stunning and perfect!
We had a wonderful stay in Mount Vernon at Alan’s property. It fit our needs perfectly and had all of the extra touches to make it a truly perfect stay. We enjoyed the bright, open layout and wonderful amenities. Alan and his property manager were wonderful to work with and even accommodated us with a gate for our infant at the top of the stairs. The house was clean and comfortable. Highly recommend!
This vacation rental exceeded our expectations in every way. The hosts were more than generous with everything that was provided, and the property is just spectacular. We had everything we needed to enjoy the lake and all it had to offer, and the hosts left very detailed information for the surrounding areas so you could make informed choices about where to eat, hike, and restock provisions. We had never been to Maine before, and Alan could not have been more gracious in answering all my many questions. If you are looking for a peaceful, family-friendly place to get away from the hustle and bustle, you have certainly found it in this property. I would recommend it to anyone and would rate the hosts a 10 out of 10.
We stayed at this wonderful home for a week with three couples. The house is very roomy, well equipped and all in all a great place for vacation. Each couple having our own bed and bathroom was a great plus. The dock, kayaks and canoes were great and added a lot to our stay. We could have used a few more comfortable chairs inside and out. We ran into a few issues but they were followed up very timely by our property contact. All in all we can highly recommend this property.
A Terrible Experience. Had to Deal with Ongoing Construction and Dangerous Construction Debris.
I have never experienced such a terrible host as Alan Caron. The host comes with the house, and in this case that is not good. We rented this house for Memorial Day weekend and week. I want everyone to know that I have pictures of all of my claims and my immediate concern is for the safety of future renters.
To summarize:
• It was a terrible experience.
• The property was not safe for renting.
• The house was not prepared for our visit.
• The owner had construction going on during our stay.
• The owner did not disclose his rental was under construction.
Now for the details. (Unfortunately, VRBO limits the amount of text used on a review so I am very limited to the details I can include).
Upon arrival we notice the property was under construction. Boards and construction debris were scattered throughout the area including across the path to the dock and pond.
At the front entrance to the rental, there were many nails, screws, broken glass and sharp cut aluminum trim waste. After picking up many, many pieces it became a real concern.
We were informed on Sunday at 8:59am that a construction crew was coming to our rental to work. They were arriving at the same time we received the call. Alan said the work would be completed in 1 day. They returned Monday (Memorial Day) and Tuesday. The work was still not completed. Alan also stated the hot tub was not ready for use.
On Monday I texted Alan that we were not comfortable with the construction crew working during our vacation. I also made him aware of the very dangerous situation in his front yard including many sharp pieces of cut aluminum, broken glass, discarded nails and screws. He claimed he would have the construction crew quit, but they also returned on Tuesday. He came to the rental multiple times to remove the dangerous objects but failed to secure the area. My brother ended up with a flat tire from one of his screws. Luckily, we were not injured.
Alan later admitted that previous contractors used that area in front of the entrance to his rental as a “construction debris pile”. So, Alan knew about this and never insured the area was safe.
Alan is a perfect example of why people have concerns renting from websites like VRBO. We paid nearly $3,000 for a quiet vacation and we had to deal with his ongoing construction and entering the rental through a “debris field”. We ended up with a flat tire but it could have been worse. Renters now have our experience as evidence.
Stayed Aug./Sept. 2021 Very beautiful spacious home with extra nice touches including fresh flowers and a bottle of wine. The owners also provided frozen strawberries and an ice cream maker. Enjoyed hearing the loons on the water at night. Large flat
From the moment I saw this property come up in my search, I was hooked. We have a long standing tradition every summer of camping with 3 other families but that was upended in 2020 and we wanted to try something different. We wanted a place on the water, preferably on a lake, where we could swim, fish and kayak, and while we wanted it to be peaceful, we also wanted to be close to amenities such as grocery stores, restaurants and things to entertain our teenage boys. Loon Cove managed to meet all of my expectations. Quiet campfires, watching the moon rise over the lake, listening to the loons call, were the perfect way to relax at the end of the day. Every amenity was thought of- from lovely smelling shower gel, to a bookcase full of board games for rainy days, to a big lobster pot to cook fresh lobsters bought from the nearby fish market. The owner is friendly and responsive and quick to reply with answers to any questions you might have. We are already looking forward to our next stay!

Why they chose this property
If you like a lake that's full of activity, with lots of roaring speed boats, this is not your place. Set on four acres of land, with just two nearby neighbors, one on either side, this is a true retreat. Comfortable and modern but set among the woods, Loon Cove is, truly, 'the way life should be'.
What makes this property unique
If you're looking for a quiet and natural place to unwind with your loved ones, or a place to relax, think about the future, read or write, this is the place. With all the comforts of home, but surrounded by the feel of central Maine, and the slower pace of the Belgrade Lakes area and the Kennebec Valley region.
