Paradise in SC

The cottage was absolutely perfect. We felt right at home and enjoyed the restful sleep we received as a result of the peaceful surroundings and the comfortable bed. The Dudleys certainly take great pride in their property and joyfully share it with others.

Wonderful getaway spot.

This is a wonderful little spot to stay if you want to be close to Charleston but also not in the middle of all the hustle and bustle that the city offers. It was very clean and quiet, while having plenty of space and appliances that if you wanted to stay in for a night and just relax you totally can.

Darling Cottage

Everything was superb from booking, communication, location & all the wonderful things the cottage offered. Cleanliness is extremely important to us & the hosts did not disappoint. The decor of the cottage, quality of the linens & the treats left for us was superb! The info & the pictures on VRBO were accurate. Book this cottage & you will not be disappointed. It’s amazing!

Anniversary trip

To say we were impressed with this cottage is an understatement. From getting fresh-baked cookies and wine at check-in, to getting a whole beach setup when we mentioned going to Folly Beach, Margie and Sid outdo themselves to make sure your trip is memorable! The cottage is tucked away in the backyard, it was very quiet and peaceful when we were there. The location is great! About 15 minutes from downtown Charleston, about 20 minutes from Sullivan's Island and Folly Beach. I wouldn't stay anywhere else if visiting Charleston. Cozy Cottage

This beautiful backyard cottage was perfect. The owners, Margie and Sidney thought of everything, from the homemade chocolate chip cookies, to beverages and snacks. The cottage was sparkling clean and was a short drive to downtown Charleston. We had everything we needed to relax and enjoy our trip!

The Perfect Getaway

We absolutely loved this little cottage! It was immaculate. Margie thought of everything including a phone charger, which my husband forgot. It was a great location and an easy drive to downtown. I can’t recommend it enough!!!

Perfect location with all the extras!

Spent our anniversary weekend at the backyard cottage. The reviews were spot on, Margie has literally thought of EVERYTHING, including fresh baked cookies and a bottle of wine waiting for us! The location was super convenient to everything we wanted to do and see. Hoping to return for future stays!

Great Place!

My wife and I stayed here for three nights. We had a wedding in town, and it was an excellent fit for the two of us. It is easy to come and go as you please, and you feel secluded from the main house, which we liked. The cottage is very clean and well-kept. You can tell the owners take pride in keeping this place in pristine condition. We visited the downtown area several times during our stay, and it was easy to get to from this place. If we are ever in the Charleston area again, we would definitely go back here. Highly recommended!

Charming Cottage

Beautiful little cottage and garden area. Nice and quiet neighborhood, good location and easy drive to downtown Charleston and other popular locations. Upon check-in we had fresh homemade cookies and a nice bottle of wine waiting for us. The cottage is nicely decorated, very cozy and IMMACULATE. Sidney and Margie are wonderful hosts, easy to communicate with and have thought of all the little details to ensure their guests have a wonderful experience. This was our first visit to Charleston. This property was the perfect home away from home! The minute we walked in the cleanliness was a win for me! The location is perfect! Easy to get to downtown & beach areas! Hidden gem

Our stay at the cottage was wonderful. After a busy few days in town getting our college kids moved in to their apartments, the cottage was such a welcome place to retreat to. So quiet and cozy, with thoughtful touches throughout, and a short 10 minute drive to college of Charleston campus. Margie was so sweet and helpful. Everything was perfect :-)

The perfect cottage location

The absolute perfect place to stay while in Charleston! Close to everything and anything you could want (beach, downtown, shopping). A new standard

Having stayed in many rental homes over the years, we always come back saying, "Why didnt they have...?". Not here. Every detail was covered. Easy check in, immaculate, wine and snacks waiting for us - it was a great, quiet place to come back to and relax after a day out and about. Location is great too; 10 minutes from downtown, and easy to get to beaches and other destinations. The nearby neighborhood had some excellent food options if you want to stay closer. Overall, the best place we've ever stayed and we will definitely book again if we're heading back to Charleston. Thanks for a great stay!

Perfect Oasis

Perfect Backyard Cottage

Our host Sidney & Margie definitely know how to make their cottage feel like a home away from home. The cottage was immaculate, had just what we needed for our weekend away. We enjoyed the little treats left for us. Loved the coziness of the place and the beautiful gardens . The neighborhood is wonderful the Greenway trail is right around the corner. We walked to the stores and restaurants close by. We are definitely looking forward to a trip back to Charleston and already know we will be booking The Backyard Cottage again with the most wonderful host .

Charleston getaway

This property was perfect for my husband and I. It was well stocked with all we needed and more. Only about 10-15 minutes from downtown Charleston we were easily able to get to the things we wanted to do, and then come back and relax and recharge in a quiet neighborhood. Also the host were so helpful in helping us find places to eat and even a restaurant that would show our team that was playing in the women’s NCAA tournament. Thanks to Margie and Sid for this great place so we could enjoy our first trip to Charleston. I highly recommended this place to any couple!

Charleston cottage

Wonderful weekend staying in Charleston for the house and garden tour. Cottage was in West Ashley which was only about 10 -15 minutes from downtown parking garages..it was nice to get away from the crowds at the end of the day! The cottage had everything you would need for your stay. Surrounding neighborhood had great spots for breakfast and dinner if you didnt want to eat in town. The hosts were very responsive, we had a minor issue with tv, and they followed through till it was fixed. We would definitely stay there again.

Wonderful stay!

I traveled to Charleston with my bestie and the Cottage was the perfect place for us! It is immaculate and decorated so tastefully. The snacks and other amenities were very much appreciated. The best thing were the freshly baked cookies that welcomed us!! It was also nice to come "home" to a relaxing place after a busy day in the city. Margie and Sheldon are wonderful hosts and I highly recommend their place!

Sweet and thoughtfully furnished cottage

This lovely property is a short commute from historic Charleston and offers a fully equipped well-managed little home. We’re both proud to call the Lowcountry home and have been married for 42 wonderful years. In October 2019, we retired our welding and fabrication shop of over 30 years after Sidney experienced a massive stroke and was diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease. Today, we’re grateful to say he’s doing well and staying active.

After downsizing from the country to the city, we knew the moment we first saw this property that it was meant to be home. When we arrived, the cottage was just a shell and the grounds were wildly overgrown—but after five years of hard work, love, and vision, our dream is finally coming together.

We both enjoy meeting new people and spending time outdoors. Sidney has a deep love for the Lowcountry swamplands and says any day at the hunting club is a good one. Margie finds peace at the beach or working in the yard and also has a passion for real estate—she’s a local realtor who loves all things home and property. We also enjoy biking and are lucky enough to start our rides right from our backyard.

We truly love this place and feel so fortunate to be able to share it with others. Hosting is a joy for us, and we warmly welcome you to The Backyard Cottage. We hope you choose to stay with us—we believe you’ll be glad you did.
