About the host
Hosted by Erica Ashe

We have lived in various neighborhoods in Brooklyn for the past 20 years (David was here from birth), but we found our dream home in Bed-Stuy. I am originally from Kansas and started traveling internationally in high school. I studied abroad in Spain as well as in Italy in college, and after we had kids about 18 years ago, I needed to be sure that international travel could still be a part of our lives, so we went to Mexico when our daughter was 4 months old, and I took her to London at 12 months with my sister.
Since then, we have traveled around Switzerland, London, Denmark, Sicily, Mexico, Belize, Honduras, Canada, Croatia, Singapore, Vietnam, and Thailand, among other trips stateside. Our last big trips were sailing in Croatia and hiking in the Swiss Alps and scuba diving in Roatan, Honduras (the kids were certified as Junior divers a couple of years ago). We hope to continue our adventures for many years to come.
David is an Assistant Principal at an alternative high school, and I am a Statistician, doing research on sea-level change. We love to enjoy the amazing food and culture in Brooklyn and elsewhere, so we have taken advantage of the possibility of subsidizing a bit of our travel by putting our home on Airbnb while we are away having our own adventures.
Summer of 2020 we traveled around the Western US in our camper trailer exploring the national parks, hiking, and working remotely, turning COVID into an opportunity for more exploration.

Why they chose this property
We fell in love with this house the moment we drove up the driveway, and you will too. Your sense of awe will double after you walk up the stairs into the lofty living room. It is truly the perfect place to relax and explore during any season. We enjoy it with our friends, playing games downstairs and watching movies in the evenings. And when everyone is tired out, every (all 10) bed in the house will make you fall right to sleep when your head hits the pillow (read the reviews). Five full bathrooms mean you have privacy and accessibility no matter what.
The proximity to Windham mountain (4 minutes) and to great restaurants in the area (e.g., Union + Post) means the location is ideal along with the house itself.

What makes this property unique
High-speed Wi-Fi (very rare in the area), 5 bedrooms, 4 baths, and a cozy den on the lower level, next to the kids' room giving you space to relax on the main floor. The huge mudroom with a nook for everyone and ski/snowboard rack just outside means you'll never have to search for that other glove again.
The hot tub is right outside off the deck, so you are protected from the weather during your 10 steps over there. BUT, the hot tub is exposed to the sky which means that you can look up and see the meteor shower or snowflakes floating down while you are enjoying your soak. It doesn't get any better than that.
Well, maybe having a glass of wine on the deck while watching one of the amazing sunsets is better? There is also fun to be had hanging around the huge fire pit, telling ghost stories, and making smores. It is hard to say the best part of staying at our magical mountain house.
