-Please note: YOU CANNOT SEE THE RIVER FROM THE HOUSE. Due to the flood plain in the area, all houses along this side of the river are built back from the river's edge. There is a large yard in between the house and the river and you cannot see the water from where the house is. We leave the canoes down by the river's edge so that you don't have to carry them back and forth.

Some other things to note about Bear Bluff:

- The base rate includes 4 guests. Each additional guest is $30 per night. Please read the itemized charges carefully!

- Please note: The optional firewood charge of $10/night is for firewood. If you don't think you will use the firewood or would like to bring your own, please let us know! We are more than happy to refund that to you.

- Check-in is 3:00 PM and check-out is at 11:00 am. Early check-in or late check-out may be available, ask us!

- Dogs are welcome! There is a limit of 2, with a pet fee of $65 per dog. Unfortunately, we can't accept cats. Sorry about that!

-There is no trash service in this area. We ask that you please take your trash with you- there is information in the cabin on where to go to take it so that you don't have to take it all the way home with you! Alternatively, housekeeping can remove it for you for a tip of $5 per bag.

Good stay for short getaway

Overall the stay was nice. The game room was definitely a favorite for the teens. The walk down to the river was a easy gentle walk. I was just disappointed that I could not see the "view" from the living room due to the orientation of the house. We visited in December and it was to cold to sit on the porch.

Great stay!

This was a really nice stay, and fit the bill for our crew. The fireplace and firepit were great, and the walk down the property to the water was beautiful. There were a few things that seemed like they needed some attention though. Both screen/storm doors didn’t latch easily, which means they banged around in the wind. The hot tub was great, but likely needs more regular cleaning. The beds were also VERY squeaky and creaky in both rooms, and blinds in multiple windows were messed up. That said, would stay here again. The living spaces were great, and the host was super responsive throughout our stay.

Cute but...

My husband and I wanted a secluded cabin in the woods for a weekend birthday getaway. We chose this place based on the reviews and the pictures. So, I feel the need to write this review. The deck and front screen door are in need of repair. The door hangs open and I'm guessing that's why there are so many stinks bugs, dead and alive, in the home. The hot tub did not work, it took my husband an hour to get it going. A not so handy person might not have such luck. The beds were so uncomfortable, I did not sleep. Even the couch was worn down and uncomfortable. Lastly, the lawn was very high. It probably wasn't cut for a while. I know these things might have been remedied if I reached out, but these parents wanted privacy for the little time we had away. All in all, we made the best of it. Just happy to be together, but it was the first time I was disappointed in VRBO rental. And we've used these services a lot.

First time with VRBO

I think it was great to dip our toe in the water. This was way better than staying at a hotel. However, there were somethings, now that I know what to look for, that will inform me next time I VRBO. Specifically, proximity to amenities, activities and the condition of the house. All in all a positive experience and good value for money. Especially the service support.

Great Relaxing Space for Families

Our family of 5 & 2 dogs had a wonderful time at Bear Bluff and we hope to return! The house was comfortable and felt bigger than it looks. The basement/game room was a great hang out space for kids. The river access in this area requires a short walk but was totally worth it as there was plenty of space for hanging out in tubes, kids playing in water and space in the shade. Although there are some neighbors on the street, this lot is pretty private.

Love us some Bear Bluff!

Our 4th time staying at Bear Bluff, and we love it. So very peaceful, and our dogs have a blast! The hot tub and river access make for great a weekend away. We were not expecting the house updates. WOW! Fully renovated basement, perfect for a family trip. Excellent service, good communications...highly recommend.

As advertised plus some!

Before booking Bear Bluff I read a lot of reviews and they all seemed very positive. After staying there I found the place exceeded my expectations which were already high. The whole place was very well kept, tidy, and clean but not so much to where it seemed sterile and lacking life. It felt "homey" and lived in. There was plenty of towels and blankets and the kitchen was more equipped than it suggest. There was even plethora of spices. The 50's Hollywood framed photos all around the house was a very nice touch too. We played plenty of billiards and ping pong and spent a lot of time on the screened-in porch was is very spacious. The hot tub was also great though we had to troubleshoot a few minor issues. The lawn leading to the river is a beautiful walk and the riverfront location was something out of dream...a huge tree bending over and providing shade for a pebble island where we sat on lawn chairs and anchored a tube to a branch. There was no sound of industry to heard anywhere...no traffic, planes, lawn mowers...the seclusion was wonderful. We also floated the river around the bend which couldn't be more convenient for pickup and dropoff. We saw an eagle flying away with a fish in its claws. I mean...c'mon! Someone also caught a rather large catfish. Nature was on full display. I could go on because I'm still buzzing from the experience but I'll hold off and just say I hope to be back soon enough.

Great stay at Bear Bluff

Our group of 4 adults and 4 (smaller) kids was very happy at Bear Bluff. It is clean, charming, and well-appointed. The kitchen is better stocked than many rentals I have been in, with plenty of cookware, dishes, spices, etc. There was firewood, and the shed was very well organized with lots of canoe paddles, life jackets for adults and kids, inner tubes, lawn chairs, etc. The two canoes were in good shape and are kept close to the river. That section of the river is gorgeous. Also, the management company (Shenandoah Rentals) was easy to work with and has their act together when it comes to cleaning and maintenance. Overall, we were all very happy with our weekend retreat here.

Beautiful spot in the River

This is house nestled right into the Shenandoah Valley was so cozy and beautiful. Our dogs loved the run down to the water , a perfect spot for all us to stretch our legs and kick off vacation with some relaxation. The fire pit outback was just right for enjoying the spring evenings and the porch was the perfect place for morning coffee and catching glimpses of the deer roaming through the yards .

Over all... Good Stay

The outside of the house could use some TLC. When we pulled up, I was a little worried. Once inside, it's a whole other story. The home is comfortable, clean, and I LOVED the different decor (Classic Hollywood stars pictures), some bear themes and a little mix here and there. The couches are so comfortable, you actually fall asleep.... We had no cell reception (we have 5G with Verizon) BUT, the wi-fi worked and there is a house phone if needed. This is in a "country" subdivision so be aware that you have neighbors. There are trees lined on each side of the house, however, they did not provide a whole lot of privacy. We steered clear of the hot tub because it is on the front porch and the neighbors on that side are a bit close. Overall, if you aren't looking for seclusion and quiet, this is a great spot. We did enjoy our stay,

Weekend getaway

This place was exactly what we wanted/needed for a peaceful weekend getaway. The property was well equipped and clean. There was so much to do just inside the house it was hard to get bored. Loved walking to the river and sitting by the fire pit in the backyard. The hot tub was a huge hit. Location was great, secluded but not too far from stores. Would definitely book again.

Perfect Weekend Getaway

We had a wonderful long weekend away at Bear Bluff. The house had something for everyone. My mom enjoyed reading on the screened in porch and my kids loved canoeing on the river. The area is simply amazing, we hiked and saw some beautiful waterfalls and drove along Skyline Drive. On the last night we ended our stay with gathered around the fire pit! It was really a wonderful experience.

Wonderful cabin setting nestled along the bucolic Shenandoah River with fabulous water access.

The property was great. Paper, aluminum and plastic recycling was left for us by previous guests but it was not a big deal as we had to take ours with us anyways because of the holiday. The game area downstairs was great. Everything was well appointed and in good working order. The kitchen was abundantly filled with utensils and essentials for meals. The microwave door was broken but the appliance worked fine. The only real negative was that the DVD collection, while impressive, was difficult to take advantage of without a DVD player in the living room and the remotes either didn't work or were mismatched with the bedrooms. We brought our own FireTV Stick but were unable to get it to work either. No big loss however as we were really too exhausted to care that much between all day outings in the glorious river with excellent access and the hot tub on the deck! Highly recommend!

Amazing mini vacay

This cabin has everything you need and we had the most amazing time. The hot tub, the game tables, the fireplace, grill, and firepit.. we used it all. The river is down the hill past the trees and is a good little work out to walk back and forth but definitely doable. Even though it was too cold to get in, we went canoeing with all the stuff already provided. We definitely want to come back!

Great, relaxing stay with our kids

We had a nice, relaxing visit to Bear Bluff cabin with our two school-aged kids. The cabin had everything we needed, and we especially appreciated all of the towels, the multiple televisions, the hot tub (we went in every night under the full moon!), the large yard (though it had many large puddles from recent rain), and the general privacy and quietness of the location. The wifi was excellent (which is good because we did not get much in the way of Verizon cellular signal), and the management company was very responsive to several questions that I had. Our only issue was that we were never really able to get a good fire going (inside or out), but otherwise we had a great stay and enjoyed some nearby attractions like the ropes course at the Luray Caverns, and hiking in Shenandoah.

All you need!

We came down from Pittsburgh to VA for our Honeymoon. My husband and I visit the Shenandoah area several times a year. This was our first time staying in Rileyville. It did not disappoint! SUV or truck strongly recommended to handle these gravel, mountainous roads. The cabin sits down from a main road. Speed limit enforced as you will pass a residential area. As you approach this beautiful cabin looks can be deceiving from the road. This place is a lot bigger than it looks! There is a circular driveway to easily pull back out onto the road. The deck off front entrance has a grill, hot tub and plenty of room to sit. Cabin has coded lock with key, so you don’t have to worry about how you will be able to access your rental. Huge ceilings, WiFi and cable TV. Cabin is furnished with leather couches in living area. If you are bringing a dog, you might want to bring extra blankets to protect couches. 2 bedrooms. Only used one, but the bed was like sleeping on a marshmallow! So comfy! Kitchen is well stocked with everything you need to cook. Just bring food and drinks! There is screened porch off kitchen with seating to enjoy the view of the mountains and huge yard. Saw many frolicking deer in the morning. Basement has entertainment. There is a football, ping pong and pool table. Backyard goes down to river. No view from cabin, but there are 2 fire pits on property. One closer to the cabin and the other is at riverfront. There is a wagon in the back of the cabin to easily haul your wood. Did not get to use boats, but they are kept down by river. Yard can get very wet. Bring your boots! All the information you need is in a well detailed binder inside the cabin. If you need to venture out to the store, you are a 20 minute drive to Luray Walmart, Food Lion and fast food places. If you want to hike close to cabin check out Guest/ Shenandoah River State Park. It is right off main road of cabin heading towards the town of Front Royal. Entrance fee applies, leashed dogs allowed and wooded trails with great views.
