Mixed Experience
My family recently stayed at a VRBO property in France. The home was conveniently located near the metro, making travel easy despite being a bit out of the city center. The property was well-maintained and comfortable, and though it lacked air conditioning, opening the windows provided relief from the summer heat. A staff member met us upon arrival and explained the house rules. Initially, our stay was pleasant.
However, after we left, the experience took a downturn. A few hours post-departure, the manager requested 400 euros for alleged damages, claiming we had caused significant harm to the walls, citing an issue with hair dye (which we didn’t use) and noting that we hadn’t taken out the trash. The staff member who did the checkout walk-through confirmed everything was in good condition and reassured us that she would handle the trash even though we offered to take it with us. However, the manager insisted that the damage was only visible in daylight and claimed the staff member had made a mistake. Despite my offer to return and inspect the damage myself, I was told this wasn’t possible.
I refused to pay, standing by the staff member's confirmation. While the property itself was lovely and conveniently located, the post-stay experience with the management left us disappointed. I would advise future guests to be cautious and thoroughly document the property’s condition upon departure to avoid similar issues.
