About this property

Beautiful ranch cottage close to Kings Canyon and Sequoia National Parks

Escape to the ideal getaway! Discover serenity in this remodeled cottage at Starview Ranch, enveloped by manzanitas and cradled beneath a majestic pine. Embrace relaxation with the fragrance of lavenders in the verdant French garden, observe birds in the yard, or unwind with a book by the fireplace. This is also a perfect spot to venture out and explore the wonders of Kings Canyon and Sequoia National Parks. The allure of the Starview Ranch cottage will leave you yearning for an extended stay.

This hand-built cottage is 1400 sq ft with 2 bedrooms and 1 bathroom. The original quartz fireplace dates back to when the house was a hunting cabin before WWII and the renovated pine wood flooring is hand milled. There is an additional mattress in one bedroom so up to 6 people can stay comfortably. It has 2 screened porches, 1 off the bedroom and 1 is in the back with a table seating 4. The dining room table seats 6 and there is an additional outside table for 4 in the French garden as well as a large gas grill.

Please note this property is 45 minutes from a grocery store so advanced meal planning is advised.

The fireplace should not be used during summer months when the fire risk is high. The gas BBQ grill in the garden can be used year-round.

Other things to note:
I would like to remind guests that this property is out in the beautiful wilderness. Along with that comes both large and small animals that live here, whether we like them or not. You are in the great outdoors and may encounter bears, rattlesnakes, mountain lions, bats, insects, and other critters. If doors or windows (without screens) are left open these critters and many bugs tend to find their way in. We recommend only opening up the screened windows and ensuring doors are not left open. Also, no matter how rigorously the cottage is cleaned (and I take cleaning very seriously) there may be some dead bugs or a small cobweb that was created in the short time from cleaning to your check in... this is just a fact of life and part of the charm of staying at a ranch cottage in the middle of nowhere.

Starview Ranch is located in a remote area in the Sierra Nevada foothills. The drive to the property from either Kings Canyon Drive or from the 245 involve curvy mountain roads with switchbacks and sharp turns which can also be narrow in some places. Also, the drive to Kings Canyon National Park is a windy mountain road.

The television is connected to an Amazon Fire Cube. You can access Amazon Prime, Netflix and Hulu. Feel free to use your own login for other TV apps. Cable TV stations are not included.

There is a Bluetooth speaker in the kitchen for listening to music.

One last piece of advice:
Pack and wear clothes that you don't mind getting a little dusty/ dirty. Again, part of the charm.

The best place to stay

This is the most comfortable and relaxing place to stay, and I cannot recommend it more highly. The yard is beautiful, there are several outdoor spaces to sit and relax. Very close to Kings Canyon National Park. Dean was a fantastic host and very responsive. You won’t regret your stay!

Lots of space

The cottage was perfect for our family of 4 (2 adults, 2 teens). We were all able to spread out and enjoy the property. The outdoor space is great for relaxing after long days of hiking in the parks. The road to Kings Canyon and Sequoia is long and winding, but after we drove it once we felt comfortable. Just take it slow.

Serene getaway

A wonderful rejuvenating getaway for my daughter who was stressed out with her law studies. Everything we needed and more was provided in terms of amenities. Enjoyed the garden, lights, sounds of the fountains, chimes, frogs and lots of different birds. Our dog was happy walking and checking out all the local farm animals and new smells. Loved the old fashioned bath and stove. Would happily visit again.

Perfect family Christmas get together

From the moment we walked in we felt at home because of all the little touches that the owner did for our arrival. The home, set in the deep set green valley of the Sequoia national forest, was a perfect getaway from the busyness life often is. The atmosphere was a home away from home, one my family couldn’t imagine spending Christmas anywhere else.

Charming cottage but had issues.

You definitely get away from the crowds if you stay at this cottage. The kitchen is well stocked with all the equipment you'll need for preparing meals. Beds are comfortable for a good nights sleep. The cottage did NOT have any TV options the first 2 days we were their but the owner rectified that. The gray water drain pipe is routed into the pasture and plugged when we used the washing machine causing the kitchen sink to overflow & the laundry room to flood. The owner called the property manager who got the pipe unplugged but did NOT even come to the door to see if we needed help cleaning up all of the water that was on the floors inside the cottage. We spent 90 minutes cleaning up the mess ourselves. The shortest option to Kings Canyon is on a very narrow extremely windy road with numerous blind hair pen corners.

Friendly, Helpful Host & Wonderful Home

The property is pretty much exactly what I want to build for myself on a large piece of land. It was close to Kings Canyon -Sequoia, but with the super-windy roads leading to the home, I was not inclined to visit the park more than two times. The trek was just too much trouble for this Houstonian who’s used to straight, flat roads. Another bummer is that it was really hot out, 97 degrees on several days in a row, but the window unit is in the living room, and never quite is that the fancy espresso machine ignited the phenomenon of craving in me for delicious espresso, but then it failed to work. That was disappointing. I know that espresso is a luxury, and I would never expect to be provided espresso at a VRBO—it’s just that the beautiful machine was sitting there shining on the countertop, tempting me, but then refused to work.

Perfect Ranch

Our family loved this cool cottage on the SR ranch. Dean was on-site to welcome us and provide a few items that weren’t in the cottage. We used the grill, ate out on the screened-in porch and thoroughly enjoyed the twinkling lights outside on the property. The multiple water fountains attract the local woodpeckers, hummingbirds and other birds. Watching nature right outside our door was refreshing and a lot of fun. We used this property as base camp for all of our King’s Canyon hikes, which was perfect for our needs as well. Highly recommended!

Great basecamp when you visit Sequoia and King Canyon National Park.

This is a great place to spend time with your family and friends. It takes about an hour and 20 minutes to get to Sequoia and 1 hour and 40 minutes to Kings Canyon. This place is clean and well maintained. The owner sent a clear check-in and check-out instructions. He had no problem with early check-in. We've had a great time!

You're not going to want to leave

It's so hard to find rentals that will accept dogs--especially those over 25lbs--that we could hardly believe our luck in finding this gem near the Kings Canyon/Sequoia National Park. This cottage has beautiful garden areas & screened-in areas for hanging out, several fountains & birdbaths to attract wildlife, and lots of windows throughout so even when inside you feel a connection to the outdoors. It's also a very quiet locale, which was appreciated. The place was clean and had everything we needed. Dean was an excellent host & responded quickly to inquiries. One thing to note is that the listing said fenced yard, but we found that it wasn't completely enclosed, as one side was open or recently downed. In fairness, we hadn't asked Dean about the fencing ahead of time as it didn't really matter that much to our situation, but if you're a dog parent for whom it does matter, it's something to double-check about with Dean. As others have noted, the most direct drive to the Big Stump entrance to the Kings Canyon/Sequoia Nat'l Park is rather twisty, scenic, & takes about half an hour. All in all, we & our dog had an extremely relaxing stay at this beautiful cottage and enjoyed the daily visits of orioles and other birds.

Amazing stay

Staying at Starview ranch was quite the relaxing treat. It is the perfect balance of rustic and comfort and a great launching point to King’s Canyon and Sequoia National parks. The property itself is located away from any main city and offers an ample front porch to watch birds and a beautiful French garden to relax and enjoy the scenery after a day in the parks. The house itself is spacious and cozy at the same time. Both bedrooms are a nice size and have comfortable beds with nice touches like night lights and reading lamps to make you feel at home. The kitchen is well stocked with cookware and tools needed for cooking. The dining room and screened in porch offer beautiful views of the garden and multiple windows that allow the mountain breeze to flow through the house. All aspects of the house are up to date and clean. The bathroom was very clean and absolutely loved soaking in the tub after hiking all day. The only thing I wish I could have changed was staying here longer! If you are going to Kings Canyon/ Sequoia plan on it taking about 60 min to get the visitors center but the drive is beautiful and other than camping directly in the park not too many other options exist. We did Mist Falls one day and it took 2hrs to get to the trail head but most of that was spent driving through the park’s gorgeous (but very windy) roads. Can’t wait to stay here again!

Peaceful

Came for a few days to hike in the Sequoia National Park with my son. The cabin was very comfortable with everything you need —yet rustic enough to feel your on vacation. Lots of space to relax both inside the cabin and outside with screened in porches and lovely courtyard all surrounded by nature. The host sent a message after we arrived to ensure we had everything we needed. We stopped in a cute little town call Orange Cove on the way in and bought groceries which for us was breakfast and snacks. The drive to the Park is stunningly beautiful and the roads paved but narrow and curvy. Luckily lots of turnout points to stop and enjoy the scenery.

I stayed at this property for a weekend getaway with a friend and it exceeded our expectations! We can't wait to go back. The property is gorgeous and the fine details that went into the home were so wonderful. It's fully equipped with plenty of bedding, kitchenware, and a fireplace! The backyard is such a beautiful space too! It's an 1 hour and 20 minutes from Sequoia, but the drive is so beautiful the time flies by quickly. Dean, the host, was also very communicative and responded quickly to any questions we had about the property. 10/10! Can not recommend enough!
