About this property

Beachfront Beauty on Pedrito side **INSANE LOCATION**

Out of the way beach-front house - best spot near Todos! Over an acre ON THE BEACH is yours! Incredible views in every direction. Sunsets, whales, strolling and surfing (between 2 breaks). Minutes from town and Cerritos, yet quiet beaches out your back door.

Upstairs master suite has the most incredible views and breezes with a cal-king, it does NOT have a door, but is open to a stairwell for year-round breezes. Downstairs bedroom also has a cal-king with a separate entrance to a large bath. There is a pull-out sofa in front of the fireplace in the L/R. Gigantic patio. There is now air-conditioning but ceiling fans throughout make them mostly superfluous. This unbelievable location is so affordably priced because after making significant upgrades (including a water purification system) construction has begun on a detached garage. While the location is 5 star, the house (while functional, and comfortable) is a little uneven (plaster, paint, woodwork, etc.). Also, being right on the beach in a neighborhood with dirt roads means that dirt is "managed;" no matter how many times you sweep the saltillo tiles, there will always be dust and sand, you might even see a "do I dare say it" a cockroach or two. It's not a good fit for prissy people. This is for those who appreciate an incredible sunset beyond crashing waves with a warm breeze making the cold margarita that much more refreshing.

One hour north of Cabo, and hour and ten from the airport, walk to Cerritos surfing/swimming beach. Check out San Pedrito point break from the upstairs master bedroom. Incomparable views***

Watch sea turtles hatch, whales breach, fish, surf, hike, dive, stargaze, or just watch sunsets from the hammock with a margarita in hand. Visit one of the outstanding art galleries or dine at great restaurants in Todos.

If you are just interested in a private suite, please inquire even if the calendar shows no availability, we are letting our suite now for $125/night.

Beautiful house, relaxing setting, gorgeous views

We are already planning our next trip which hopefully includes staying at this beachfront beauty. Easy access to Cabo San Lucas and Todos Santos. The views from downstairs and upstairs are breathtaking.

Awesome home!

House was a home, not your typical vacation house. Location is amazing, owner was more than accommodating, home was extremely clean and has everything you need. Wouldn’t change a thing - Would rent again no questions asked Thank you again!

Pristine house on the beach

Comfortable, clean thoughtfully-appointed house on a gorgeous beach in Pescadero. We wish we’d rented a car with a little more clearance for the dirt roads. Google maps comes in handy navigating the quiet, rural neighborhood. Close to great restaurants.

Great ocean front home that's undergoing some construction

The location was awesome being right on the beach. Everything went very smooth with checking in and our stay. The only downfall was that there was some construction projects happening that were nicely cleaned up but the fan in the master bedroom was inoperable. Luckily there was an extra fan in a closet or it would have been way too hot! We would go back!

Beautiful spot to watch whales

Great spot, very well equipped house. There were more whales cruising down the coast than we could count. The beach is beautiful, but not great for swimming of there is a swell, but Cerritos Beach is a very short drive. Best to have a 4 wheel drive because of the dirt roads.

Basic House with great location and views!

We have now stayed at this property twice, this last trip was eight days. There are some really great things about the house, and other things that could be improved. Here's the breakdown: PROS: * The view is amazing, and there is a lot of outdoor space to enjoy the sunsets and whales passing by. You will hear the ocean all night, which we loved. * The beach in front is very quiet because it is not a swimming beach, but that means miles of walking to yourself. * The kitchen is a good size and equipped with all sorts of pots and pans, dishes, etc. * Large bottled water is provided. * The hosts, Debbie and Randy, are easy to communicate with and will help you with anything you need. They live close by, and if you need something, they are there immediately to help. * The beds are comfortable (though we had to use the bedding from both beds on the bed upstairs) * There are many beach towels for your use. * The area is very quiet for the most part. * There are some nice restaurants very close, like Hierbabuena and Baja Beans The surfing beach is just a 5-minute drive away, so you can go for just an hour if you want to surf or boogie board, but you will have to rent these things. There are some boogie boards left at the house, but they are totally trashed. CONS * There are no curtain in the bathroom, so if you shower at night, anyone can see in. * The lighting is very poor in the upstairs bathroom and the living room downstairs * The water pressure in the upstairs bathroom is pretty much nonexistent. We showered downstairs. The downstairs shower is fine though the water does go hot and cold * There was no basics in the kitchen like oil or pepper, though there is now since we left some. * The lounge chairs upstairs are plastic and there are not enough cushions. * The neighbors next door burned their trash two of the nights we were there, and we had to close the windows to sleep. * When we were there, the road was flooded, which was fine because we had a jeep. There is another way out, so I don't think it would be a problem, though if you are coming in at night and have never been there, the road is quite bumpy and difficult to navigate. Once you get used to it, it is no big deal. * There are the usual Baja critters in the house like ants, roaches, salamanders, and wolf spiders. These did not bother us, but I could see some people not liking this. * Basically, this is a very basic house, shabby even, but in the best location ever

Reunion in Baja

We had a little difficulty finding the house at first, because some of the landmarks had changed. Once settled in we enjoyed our little family reunion at this quiet spot. Our grand daughter had fun playing in the sand, the adults enjoyed the time spent on the porch facing the ocean, watching birds in the morning and looking at stars at night. The sound of the waves put us to sleep at night. The farmer’s market at Baja Beans was a big plus since we all like to cook. The kitchen was well equipped.

Ocean views

If this tells you anything, we booked another week's stay the last day of our trip. This property has unobstructed ocean views with two nice patios, one shaded below and one above in the sun. We saw whales every day right from the porch and the cactus garden out front attracts all kinds of song birds. The kitchen is well-equipped with blender, coffee maker, pots, pans, wine glasses, etc. so we cooked there most of the time. We never saw the neighbors to the right. The neighbors to the left had a three-day party (until 3 AM the last night), but it was Easer week, which is a big party time there. The beach is perfect for long walks but is not swimmable. We tried, and the current was too strong. About 5-minutes' drive away is Cerritos Beach, which gets crowded but is great for swimming, boogie boarding, and surfing. The town of El Pescador is about 5-10 minutes drive and Todos Santos was about 15-20 minutes away. The roads are bumpy dirt roads but were fine in a basic rental car. You don't need 4WD. The house is super basic, not luxury at all (though the bed was really comfortable and the WIFI was good), but the location and views are amazing. The caretakers, Debbie and Randy, were great and even invited us to their house across the street for happy hour! It was just my husband and me, but this house would work well for two couples or a family of four. I wouldn't think it would be comfortable for any more people than that. I would recommend this house for anyone who doesn't need a super upscale, luxury place, who doesn't mind being a little out of the way, and is looking for spectacular ocean views.

Comfortable home in wonderful location

We enjoyed our stay at Casa de Alhaja very much. It is a great house with a lovely view and perfect access to the beach. It is a peaceful place, secluded but not too isolated. It is clean and well stocked. Lots of pots and pans, cleaning supplies, towels etc. The manager, Debbie, lives right across the dirt road. She was informative, helpful, and meets you at the house to answer all questions and make suggestions. If you need anything, it is taken care of right away. Barb, the owner, was also available (prior to our trip) to answer our questions. We appreciated the slow pace, friendly people and delicious food. We loved Baja Beans, Hierbabuena (farm to table restaurant), and Taqueria Los Poblanos right in Pescadero. A highlight was the dog surfing competition at Cerritos Beach...what fun! We ate in Todos Santos at Hotel California and at "Restaurant & Gallery "(not sure of the real name). Both wonderful in different ways. We were delighted by the artisan boutiques, art galleries, and spent an afternoon with artist Nanette Hayles at her home in Todos Santos doing collages. Very cool! We traveled to La Paz & visited the new whale museum, and walked along the Malecon. It borders the stunning Sea of Cortez. From there, we drove to Balandra beach, a very unique landscape with warm, turquoise water, surrounded by the brown desert hills. We relished lots of downtime, too. It was a memorable and lovely vacation. We would recommend this type of house, setting, and vacation to people who like to be off the beaten path, who like a slower paced vacation, who are a bit adventurous and don't mind NOT HAVING the crowds, typical tourists amenities, and excitement of the bigger resort cities.

We were looking for a beach front property nothing fancy!!very rustic , authentic Mexico, ocean br

gorgeous , quiet beach! ! Older house with sunshaded outdoor patio downstairs and upstairs. There is a luxury home on one side and a "shack "on the other, classic Mexico! Older fixtures and plumbing , no hot water in master bath. Killer location for point break surfing a 5 minute drive away. Wifi was only modern distraction, a welcome reprieve. Fell asleep to surf break every night and woke up to it! House manager was easily available and very helpful.

Lovely home, perfectly situated on and at the end of the beach

This two bedroom house is great. We loved the well-stocked kitchen, in terms of pots, pans, utensils, plates etc. Some cooking supplies were at the house, and we left more. The two bedrooms are both a good size. The house is clean and well-maintained; some minor repair is still needed after the hurricane a year-plus ago. The house is perfectly situated on our favorite beach in the area. The view straight out to the ocean is fantastic, and it is so easy to walk to the beach. The surf was pretty rough, so we went a few minutes down the road to Cerritos where there is a life guard and safer water to swim in. Neighbors were very friendly, and we were well-served by Randy, Debbie and Barb. Favorite eating spots, all within a few minutes drive: Marina's (memorable shrimp fajitas, the best sauce ever, I don't understand why Andres and family don't have more business), Los Poblanos (fabulous tacos - shrimp and carne asada were the best but fish was great too), Sunday morning at Baja Beans. Higher end eating at Hierba Buena (the vegetables are grown on the property and are incredible, I now have to work on perfecting my gaspacho to approach Marcos') and Rancho Pescadero (it's all good, but the chile rellenos have always been my favorite). Great view at El Mirador in Todos Santos, go at sunset. We always enjoy visiting La Paz one day. Next time we will have to spend more time and go out on a boat. We would absolutely recommend the property to friends and relatives, and hope to return for a longer visit. One week is just not enough.

Remote, Removed, Relaxed & Remarkable

Not sure where to start except to say that we (2 couples) had a fantastic stay. Barb made everything so easy and he house on the beach is more than we could have asked for. The house, the beach, the solitude, the views, the weather -- the entire package. Okay, so the access road driving in needs some grading, but that was the only complaint we had for our 6 night stay. Our little rental car did alright and we never felt we needed a 4-wheel drive, that's for certain. It was just a bit bumpy -- which added to the adventure. Debbie and Randy (the local house managers) were exceptional in making our stay a 5-star vacation. Debbie always answered every question and Randy was there to solve every unknown. WONDERFUL PEOPLE! Local food, shopping and side-trips to Todos Santos, Cabo San Jose and Cabo San Lucas were excellent. And, there's the famous Hotel California! So, in the end, here's what I say --- DON'T GO THERE! STAY AWAY! IT'S TERRIBLE! YOU WON'T LIKE THIS AT ALL! That way, you won't fill up the rental calendar and prevent us from coming back... which we are. Already booked, so look for another report in March! We cannot wait!

Beautiful Beach Getaway

As the name suggests, this house is a gem and a fabulous way to spend time in the Baja. Right on the ocean, the wrap around shaded terrace provides stunning ocean views, whether you are swaying in the hammock or drinking your morning coffee. The master bedroom is charming, with white curtains swaying in the breeze and the ocean outside the window complementing the blue and lavender walls. The cactus garden attracts many bird species, and the beach is steps away from the terrace. Surfing breaks on the beach or just over the hill at Cerritos. We enjoyed our stay here, and the region has many activities that will keep you busy, including whale watching, swimming with whale sharks, scuba diving, horse riding, and trips into the Sierra Lagunas.

Unique Beach Experience

We had a wonderful week at Casa Alhaja. It is truly a one of a kind spot. Dealing with the owners was a pleasure, and all our questions were answered before our arrival. Everything we needed was waiting for us on arrival. The caretaker Randy met us just after our arrival and provided some great local secrets on beaches and restaurants. Just over the hill (I walked it several times) is a popular surf break at Cerritos. While just a mile or so away, the beach in front of your Casa will truly feel like your own. We spent the whole week on the sand with only a few joggers and dog walkers passing by through the day. At night we made several bonfires from the driftwood on the beach. A few trips into Todos Santos for dinner and groceries was all we needed. The owner is right, you wil not want to leave the house. We've been to many beach spots, but none felt quite as private as this one. Will return.

As advertised !! This was our 3rd stay at alhaja... We love it . The owners are fantastic at answering any ?s and being available.. they now have a gentleman Randy who helps manage the property and he extremely helpful and friendly .. This place has truly become so special to our little family, my kids love it .. thanks for the memories !!!

A truly great place to get away from it all....

This was our second time to El Pescadero, and the first time on own (without hotel) and with our children. This place was incredible ... pictures do not do it justice. The home is much larger than it appears, and the surf it right outside your backdoor. We were there over Easter Weekend and still had the beach to ourselves. Cerritos Surf Break is just around the corner. It's a great beach for the kids with surfing, boogie boarding, or swimming (boogie boards are at the house). We had a blast and Barb could not have been easier to work with. She provides great recommendations for first time visitors. Try Pizza Napoli and Carlitos in El Pescadero. Both are excellent. Thanks for memories that will last a lifetime....

Peaceful getway on the beach

Going by the VRBO pictures we had no idea what a spacious tastefully decorated home this was. There were 4 of us, 2 couples, and we had enough privacy with the 2 bedrooms being on separate floors. Loved the landscaping with native plants, the wide beach stretching for miles in either direction right in front of the house, and the veranda and upstairs terrace. We were disappointed not to see any whales but saw lots of colorful birds in the garden everyday. The kitchen is well stocked and it's easy to fall in love with the house. Once you know the way on the dirt roads it's not a hassle but we were glad to have an SUV. There are good eateries recommended by Barb 10 minutes away on the highway (rosemary potato pizza at Napoli's is a must-try), and Todos Santos is only 10 minutes away once you're on the highway. Barb's tips were all very useful. I'd recommend this to anyone looking to get away from the maddening crowd.

This is a very nice house on a great stretch of beach. We have stayed there twice and love it. Great whale watching from the porch or roof deck of the house. There is a rocky outcrop that runs down to the Pacific a few hundred feet away that offers a unique hiking area. A couple of good restaurants are within walking distance.

Perfect "get away from it all" holiday

My husband and I had a two week holiday at Alhaja with another couple. We wanted a quiet, peaceful house right on the beach - and Alhaja delivered! We spent hours sitting on the porch - watching the whale migration during the day and eating al fresco in the evening. We took long walks on the beach, regularly sipped coffee at Baja Beans, occasionally venturing into town, and meandered to Los Cerritos to watch the surfers and sip Pacificos on the beach. The owners were extremely helpful and responsive. If you are two couples, note that one room is nicer than the other, which is clear from the posted photos. We find that this is most often the case and were pleased that at least both rooms had king beds facing the ocean. If I could make one improvement, I would add comfy outdoor seating - either 4 lounge or adirondack chairs - given the truly terrific porch, and how much time we spent sitting there. That said, it is lovely home, and we wound return in a heartbeat.

PARADISE

Upon arriving to this house is exceeded our expectations and proved to be one of the most relaxing and enjoyable vacations we have ever been on. The location is unique in that you are away from it all and can enjoy some privacy yet can walk along a beautiful beach, or go on a longer stroll to playa cerritos. Our family of 4 (two little girls 4yrs and 2yrs) enjoyed whale citings, baby tortugas, fresh ceviche, lounging in the hammock.... Good pizza and coffee not far away in pescadero and a short trip to todos santos (15-20minutes) meets all your needs. The house felt secure and excellent neighbors as well... thanks for an amazing trip Alhaja!

A Peaceful Vacation

My husband and I stayed at Alhaja with my sister and brother in law. The description of "seclusion" and "away from it all" is what we were after, and happily that is exactly what we experienced. The property was everything we expected and more, clean and well appointed. Peacefulness is what we enjoyed, walks to playa Los Cerritos, kicking back on the patio, having meals al fresco. We were lucky to be there during a full moon and enjoyed the dessert and ocean by moonlight. We discovered a very cool coffee shop "Baja Bean" best coffee, baked goods, wi fi and it's located right at the turn off the highway to go to Alhaja. We would love to return during whale watching season or the turtle season, wonderful family time. We spoke to the owner several times before arriving and they were very helpful with maps and suggestions, and answering any questions we had.

Awesome vacation spot!

The house is located on a remote, personal beach. The property extends from the thatch covered porch to the crashing waves. The concrete floor will keep you warm at night and cool in the day. An excellent kitchen space extends into a comfortable living room with a view out the glass windows directly towards the sunset. If you don't want to be inside watching the sun set, there is always the upstairs balcony which is our personal favorite. The house is in a remote location but a few minutes in the car will get you to the main town, or if you prefer a beautiful surfing beach. There is no place more beautiful than Alhaja De Baja.

About the host

Host profile image
My wife and I met in college and have always shared a desire to broaden our vistas in every manner possible. We are attracted to the central American lifestyle of friendly, relaxed simple openness. Spending time there is the perfect antidote to our hectic lifestyle in San Diego with 3 young kids. (I have to admit that the amazing surf is a bonus) ;-)

Why they chose this property

There's something magical about this area, and it draws a certain kind of person that is looking to take it down a notch. The antithesis to Las Vegas! High maintenance folks should continue looking. The town has fantastic restaurants and an art presence but is still authentic. Add in the phenomenal weather, incredible beaches, (and surfing), sea life, and easy access from the states, and it just can't be beat. Please keep in mind, it is priced so inexpensively because the house is raw and needs cosmetic work.

What makes this property unique

While the town is fantastic, you honestly won't want to spend much time away from our hide out. Your private beach awaits with the possibility of fresh turtle tracks, or even hatchlings on their way to sea. The views are dynamite.
