About this property

Welcome to Water’s Edge Log Cabin

Enjoy our rustic Lake Superior log cabin for the ultimate "glamping" experience! If you want to escape everyday life, this is the place to get away and unwind. There is no cable/satellite TV or internet, but that’s what makes this the perfect place to unplug, relax, play on the white sand beach, and explore the Keweenaw!

There is no bathroom inside the cabin, but you get to enjoy the rustic experience of walking to the outhouse located about 20 steps from the front door. Although there is no running water, there is a water spigot available next door to get water for washing dishes or yourself in the kitchen sink inside the cabin. We provide water containers for this use. You can bathe in Lake Superior or there is a 5 gallon shower bag that can be warmed in the sun for use. Be sure to bring your own drinking water!

Our 1940’s built log cabin features a small kitchen with a refrigerator, electric stove, microwave, toaster, coffee maker, along with dishes, kitchenware, and an outdoor gas grill. The dining area has a table for four. The old stone fireplace is not working but includes remote control lights for ambiance. The cozy living room area is perfect for unwinding after a long day of fun! The one bedroom upstairs loft has one double bed and two twin beds, with a child’s cot available upon request. The loft also includes a place to read or to get a game to play from those provided. There is no central heat/air but an oil-filled electric space heater and a fan are available for your use.

Please note that this cabin has low ceilings. Downstairs ceiling height is approximately six feet. The upstairs has a low vaulted ceiling with dormers. Everyone will need to duck their head in certain spots in the loft upstairs. The outhouse ceiling is very low - use caution when standing.

An outdoor fire pit is available by the beach for nighttime relaxation and s’mores around the campfire. Marshmallow roasting sticks are provided! Firewood is available on site for purchase.

This white sand beach cottage is located on the east side of the Keweenaw peninsula providing beautiful sunrises over the lake, as well as reflections of the gorgeous pink sunsets on the clouds and water in the evening. This is the perfect beach to swim, make sand castles, or just sit and relax. There is a mix of local lake rocks in certain places along the beach that are sometimes buried, depending on the wave action and wind direction, with some erosion control rock showing most of the time. Be cautious of buried rocks on the beach. Most rock hunters find some agates and beach glass when they walk the beach along the bay. Visible from the beach are the Huron Mountains across the lake. You can look forward to a relaxing and fun stay at this tranquil lakeshore location.

Michigan Technological University (MTU) is located just 26 miles south east from the cabin. This is an ideal opportunity to give your student space while enjoying your adventure in the Keweenaw peninsula.

There is much to do and see in the Keweenaw. Copper Harbor, Eagle Harbor, Eagle River, Gay, Mt. Bohemia, White City, McClain's State Park, Fort Wilkins State Park all provide wonderful historic attractions. Explore the natural beauty of forests, inland lakes and our iconic Lake Superior. Hiking trails, biking trails, roadside parks and beaches to walk to look for agates. A driving tour of the peninsula takes you around the coastline with many interesting places to stop to enjoy local arts and crafts, food, and plenty of different public parks and beaches to swim.

We recommend that you get your groceries before you arrive. The nearest grocery stores:
-Louie's Fresh Market, 18 miles to Lake Linden for a broad assortment.
-Mohawk Superette, 14 miles to Mohawk for great deli takeout food, including pasties, and basic groceries.
-Bear Belly, 15 miles to Lac La Belle for great takeout food, including a daily special and sub sandwiches, and basic groceries.
More options are a bit farther away in Calumet and Hancock/Houghton.
The Gay Bar is 6 miles away in Gay, MI. Cold beverages, hot bar food, and wifi available.

Log cabin on the lake

What a location! We were lulled to sleep each night by the waves on Lake Superior and woke up to one of the most amazing sunrises I've ever seen. This is a very cute place that gives you direct access to a lovely beach. The hosts, Peggy and Mark, are wonderful people who were very easy to communicate with. There was a mildew issue when we first arrived which improved immediately by opening both doors and using the dehumidifier they provided. For those who are sensitive to mildew, this might be a problem, but for us it was fine.

A wonderful UP experience!

My husband and I stayed at this cozy cabin during MI Tech’s family weekend. It was the perfect place to slow down and get into the UP state of mind! Lake Superior is literally right outside your door, and there are ample opportunities for connecting with nature in the area. We had a wonderful stay!

Retreat Unplug and Cleanse your Soul

We are so very grateful to be the first guests at the Water’s Edge cabin! The big Betsy area is a gem of the Keweenaw Peninsula and so are its people. Peggy and Mark are top notch hosts and you can see their love and personal touch everywhere throughout the cabin. Our kids enjoyed swimming in the warm Lake Superior water, playing in the soft sand, and hunting the beach for agates and beach glass. We adults enjoyed some stellar stargazing at night and keeping the windows and doors open at every chance we could to hear the waves crashing along Lake Superior. Needless to say, we were very well rested, unplugged from the rest of the world and back to our connections with nature, making it a truly special family trip to remember. Our family had a fantastic time and we will certainly be coming back for another visit to Big Betsy Water’s Edge!
