This was our second time to stay at the Hilltop Hideaway. What a beautiful place—surrounded by hills and overlooking the valley below! We love relaxing on the porch and enjoying the sights and sounds of nature.
This house was the perfect location multiple parks to visit within an hour drive. We enjoyed sitting on the deck, watching all the birds and the view. The home was very spacious with the bonus room with the futon and was a nice touch. Would highly recommend this property very peaceful.
The house was charming, spacious & comfortable inside and the grounds outside were secluded with a great view of the hill country. We enjoyed watching the different species of birds that visited the birdfeeders, and the night sky was great for star gazing. Our family enjoyed Lost Maples and the close proximity of the house to this beautiful state park. We had fun and really decompressed during this peaceful getaway!
We had wonderful stay. Our grandkids loved the creek access and went every day to play in the water. The scenery was great and sitting on the porch was my favorite place. The house is very enjoyable, and we loved the layout.
We have stayed here many times and have always loved the home the views and the property. In the spring, the birds are always plentiful and fun to watch. Brent is a great host, providing everything from bird seed to charcoal for the grill. A fine place to unwind and recharge.
Address # is posted at the entrance so there was no problem finding the property even in the dark. This is a secluded home perched above the Sabinal river with views of the hill country. There is a steep rocky incline leading to the house that we knew about but still had us nervous traversing it each time. The property has numerous bird feeders for wildlife viewing! There are lots of labels and notes posted throughout the house that were helpful too. Host was prompt and honest about any questions we had. We enjoyed our stay immensely!
If you like a quiet, peaceful and relaxing place look no further. This hilltop hideaway is appropriately named. The location the views and the accommodation were spot on. We would love to stay here again. It felt like a home away from home. From the time we got there till the time sadly had to leave it was an experience we will certainly remember.
My wife and I stayed here for a weekend getaway. The house was clean and comfortable. Much bigger than it looked online. Excellent bird watching (lots of feeders on the front porch). Easy and prompt communication with the owner. All in all a great stay!
We wanted a long weekend away from the city and this was the perfect spot! Quiet home up on a hill with plenty of space. We spent tons of the on the river that runs through the property and loved the outside space for our kids to play and enjoy meals with a view. Lost Maples state nature preserve was just a few miles away and great for hiking. We would definitely come back!
We love our time at the hilltop hideaway! This home is perfect for families looking to reconnect with Texas and it’s nature. You instantly feel relaxed and are reminded to slow down and take in the views. The house has plenty of space to unwind and hangout with family or friends. The homeowners are very kind and have the house wonderfully prepared for your stay. I highly recommend staying here! I hope to come back again soon!
Like hiking? Lost Maples is right up the road. Like cycling? Incredible segments all around including The Wall!! And best of all, a river to soak in after all your efforts. The house is spacious, the beds are super comfy, and it's dog friendly! Yeah, we'll definitely be back!
(My deer lease is 3 minutes down the street.)
I knew fam would NOT like deer lease camper… lol
We stayed here January 3-7
Wow! Very beautiful and quaint.
Felt like you were stepping back in time with a farmhouse feel. View is beautiful. Windows all around the house. Pet friendly we loved the hot tub
Will Be Back:)
Amazing trip for me and my 5 friends! Absolutely beautiful property. The river isn’t really flowing but we were still able to get in the water out front of the property and did a lot of star gazing at night on the spacious deck. Only problem we had was the water went out but the owner was able to get someone out very quick to fix things. Looking forward to potentially coming back! 5 stars
My best friend and I went to Lost Maples State park as a children for years with my grandparents. Finding the Hilltop River Hideaway was the perfect way to bring our families back to share our memories and love for the Hill Country. We enjoyed this home so much we extended our 3 day stay 2 extra days! The hosts have been amazing. We have 7 kids here ages 14-2 and they have all enjoyed it so much. Things weve enjoyed at the home: bird watching, building a campfire, a meteor shower/ star gazing, exploring, rock hunting, hiking, playing in the water, playing board games, cooking food, hot tub, grilling, looking at the moon through the telescope.
The beds are extremely comfortable and everyone slept well.
Only thing i would say is watch out for scorpians in the house. We saw several upon arrival then none for the remainder of the day.
Excellent house, property views of the hill country, and close to great hiking.
Love this house with 5 acres, great outdoor views with firepit and views of the river. The house is clean and perfect for 2 couples with lots of space to spread out. Beds were comfortable and Kitchen has everything you need to prepare meals and cook out on the grill. We hiked Lost Maples (l mile away) East Trail and Garner State Park multiple trails only 30 min away from the house. Just a great 3 day trip to the hill country.. Thanks for allowing us to stay at your property and a special thanks for letting us bring our little fur baby.
Family vacation for us normally end up at the beach. This was a great alternative. The home is a remote setting above the Sabinal River with views of beautiful mountains, stars everywhere at night and hummingbirds everywhere by day. Very spacious home, large decks, fun antiques
old books, chessboard to occupy the downtime. The river provides a nice spot to cool down and kids loved trying to catch a few fish. They even set up a small pup tent for the camping experience. Home is well stocked but take everything you need with you …this is remote. Leakey Texas provided a few casual places to eat. Lost Maples was beautiful. We did the East Trail, kinda difficult but Monkey Rock was easy to get to. So if you love the outdoors you will love staying at this secluded home in the hills. Booking and host contact was perfect!!

Wonderful view & comfy house
Four of us (2 adult couples) stayed in this lovely hilltop home for a birthday celebration and to enjoy the fall leaves at nearby Lost Maples State Park. It was cozy and had the most marvelous view. The owners were very responsive to questions and needs that arose. The house is very well maintained and has everything you need. It’s layed out perfectly for 2 couples as each bedroom has its own private bathroom. I would’ve given 5 stars but one of the beds was small (only a full size) and very uncomfortable. I felt bad that my friends had to sleep on it. To their credit, the owners said they would replace it after I mentioned it so hopefully no one else will have that experience. We would definitely love to go back.
We had such a great time at the Hilltop Hideaway. Husband and I took my two daughters for a summer break and the location was perfect. The place is right on the Sabinal River and very close to the Frio. We stayed on the property most of our five days but did get to go to Garner one day to enjoy the park and river. We didn't have time to visit Lost Maples this time but hope to return this fall. The house has all the comforts of home, with limited internet and television but that was okay since we were outdoors most of the time anyway. We spend most meals out on the porch watching the birds and the deer. Had many Painted Buntings come right up to the porch and had a Golden-cheeked Warbler while in the river. The beds were very comfortable. There is plenty of bathroom space. The owners were very friendly and responsive. We would love to make it back one day soon.
We had a wonderful time at the Hilltop Hideaway. Upon arrival, we were greeted by half a dozen hummingbirds buzzing around the feeder on the front deck. There are birds everywhere on the property. Great for birdwatching. We also enjoyed seeing deer and rabbits. With the current drought, I was a little worried about how the river would be. Turns out it was clear and flowing nicely. It was one of the only spots in the area where the river wasn't dried up. The house itself is incredibly roomy. The pictures don't do it justice. The beds were comfortable and the kitchen is stocked with everything you could possibly need. Just one tip, get groceries before you get to the property. There is very little in the area, just a couple of small general stores. We will definitely be back.
