About this property

OCEANFRONT Private Pool Dock Approved Dog OK! Gated Estate - A Tropical Oasis!

Mar Azul is a High-end Oceanfront Residence overlooking the tranquil Offshore Flats of Marathon. Enjoy a Secluded, Luxurious 3-Story Home with Spectacular Views of the Atlantic Ocean! Densely surrounded by Nature, the Property includes a Private In-Ground Pool Deck featuring an Outdoor Gazebo with a Stainless Gas Grille. Stroll out to the Large Private Dock via the Mangrove Canopied Walkway. A Gated Estate in a Prime Oceanfront Location.

Mar Azul is an Approved-Dog Friendly Oceanfront property at the end of a quiet, 'Key-zee' street. You will enjoy Total Privacy with Lush Tropical Landscaping including Gumbo Limbo, Coconut Palm, Sea Grape and White Bird of Paradise which completely surround the Property.

This is a designer decorated 3-story home with contemporary colors, loads of fine architectural details including Crema Marfil Polished Marble, Granite, Hardwood Floors, Open-Air Porches and Balconies. Located at Mile Marker 52, Key West is only about an hour away.

ANY DOG AND/OR BOAT/TRAILER NEEDS APPROVAL - NO WORRIES, JUST LET US KNOW, THANKS!!:-)

No tan lines? No problem! With a Salt Pool (much less chlorine), Chaise Lounges and Covered Grilling/Picnic area, the Pool Deck is very Private.

The Mangrove Walkway leads you thru a Thick Tropical Hammock and ends at a 30-foot long Dock on the Atlantic Ocean where you can experience the Natural Beauty of the Florida Keys. Marked Channels follow the shoreline and lead to Deeper Water.

Our Mangrove Walkway to the Ocean is a wonderful delight - often occupied by Tropical Birds and Curious Iguanas. At the end of the walk is the Ocean, upfront and personal! At times you can sit quietly and listen to the sound of Pelicans flapping their wings as they pass by just overhead. Watch them diving into the water to feed on small fish. Observe long-legged Egrets and the Great Blue Heron carefully stalking their prey on the Flats, and hundreds of Mullet schooling together to avoid predators at low tide. Notice how the color of the Ocean constantly changes with the changing of the Tide. Serene yet invigorating, full of life!

MARATHON: CLOSE, YET VERY FAR AWAY......! Marathon is about 10 miles in length. Made up of 13 islands, Marathon is surrounded by water and is known for its Stunning Coral Reefs, Fresh Seafood and Tropical Vibe. Centrally located, from here you can reach any part of the Keys in an hour or less. Enjoy the world-famous Sloppy Joe's Bar and a Key West Sunset, or head up to Robbie's in Islamorada to hand feed the Tarpon!

Marathon is unique in so many ways (and by the way, traffic is minimal when you get this far down.) Popular attractions include Aquarium Encounters, Dolphin Research Center, The Turtle Hospital, Sombrero Beach, Crane Point and Curry Hammock State Parks. World-Class Water Sports include Scuba Diving and Snorkeling, Offshore and Inshore Fishing, Boating and Kayaking. Participate in Interactive Exhibits where you can pet and feed Dolphin, Sharks, Fish and Reptiles.

Sombrero Beach is perhaps the nicest Beach in Marathon. Besides soft sand and swimming, the park includes a shaded area with picnic pavilions, volleyball courts, restrooms and showers.

Boat rentals are available as well as Kayak, Bicycle and Car rentals. Many of these establishments will deliver right to the Property. Just one block sway you can find bike and kayak rentals.

Marathon Restaurants offer a variety of Fresh Locally-Sourced Seafood including Lobster Tail, Stone Crab, Shrimp and a variety of Fish cooked to perfection. Popular establishments include Florida Keys Steak and Lobster House, Lighthouse Kitchen & Bar, Herbie's, Sparky's Landing and Cracked Conch Cafe.

Keys Fisheries. Very Informal/Excellent Seafood. Rather than being seated, here you order from a walk-up window and then take your tray of food to one of many covered dockside picnic tables to enjoy. My husband's favorite is the Hogfish Sandwich. (Where else can you find that?) Keys Fisheries also has a comfortable Bar built on Stilts and overlooking Florida Bay. KF is located at the Harbor where local boats unload their fresh catch daily. The wide variety of seafood available is amazing and consistent.

Located in an out-of-the-way shopping center, Frank's Grille needs to be on your list of restaurants to try.

There are too many great restaurants and bars to possibly name. What is for sure is that each has it's own unique flavor and atmosphere. From high end to dockside, elegant to casual, quiet to disorderly, you can draw your own conclusions.

Marathon hosts an array of easy-to-reach Coral Reefs and Wrecks. Sombrero Reef has a magnificent display of Live Corals and Sea Fans, teeming with schools of colorful Tropical Fish. With average depths of 30-feet, Sombrero is perfect for both beginners and experts. Looe Key offers visitors the chance to dive The Adolphus Busch; a 210-foot freighter in 110-feet of water. There are an endless number of underwater sites for snorkeling and scuba diving. You can rent equipment or fill your own tanks at one of the many dive shops in Marathon. Try night diving!

Home to some of the best Sport Fishing in the world, there are numerous Fishing Guides and Charters, some of whom can even pick you up right from the Dock! Offshore guides specialize in Sailfish, Dolphin (Mahi Mahi), Tuna, Wahoo, Snapper and Grouper whereas shallow water Backcountry guides specialize in Bonefish, Permit, Tarpon and Redfish. Sip tropical drinks while grilling your own freshly-caught fillets poolside! How cool is that?!!

The 73-foot Marathon Lady, only a few blocks away, offers a nice opportunity to bring home fresh Snapper and Grouper from our Offshore Reefs. Party Boat Fishing is a family-fun experience, and is easily affordable.

7-Mile Bridge/Pigeon Key. Constructed by Henry Flagler and completed in 1912, the original bridge is no longer in use, but is open to foot and bicycle traffic. This is a great place for an early morning walk or jog. Looking down to the water, the colors and the channels created by the moving current is an amazing site. Continue out to Pigeon Key - A 5-acre island that was at one time served as a work camp for the Railway. The former Assistant Bridge Tender's House has been converted into a small Museum featuring artifacts and images from the past.

The City of Marathon invites you to visit any of their 10 Pet-Friendly Parks. Marathon Community Park, for example, offers Tennis, Basketball Courts and Soccer Fields. Crane Point Hammock features a Tropical Forest and Natural History Museum.

In Marathon you will find everything that you might need. There are 2 grocery stores, hardware stores, drug stores, marine supply stores, a private airport, and even a hospital. One thing that is especially nice is that except for boat ramps and beaches, you rarely ever need to pay for parking anywhere in Marathon!

Within walking distance, Oceanfront Park is located between 98th and 99th Streets. (Mar Azul is on 95th Street, Mile Marker 52.) The Park borders on the Atlantic Ocean offering a relaxing place to picnic, fish and launch your kayak. The field is dog-friendly and has an open area to fly kites and exercise.

Sweet Savannahs is also within walking distance and offers Signature Cakes, Desserts and Ice Cream.

The EAA Air Museum is located on US 1 at the end of 98th Street. There you will find a collection of several aircraft including a DC3, and a variety of models representing many periods of flight. There is also an extensive collection of aviation memorabilia and equipment. Admission is free.

Both Green and Loggerhead Turtles nest and lay their eggs at Sombrero Beach during the late Spring thru early Summer. You'll need to go at night. It is important to not get too close or to shine your flashlight directly upon the Turtles or disturb them in any manner. In the late Summer thru early Fall you might be lucky enough to see the little Hatchlings making their way to the water. Walking the Beach first thing in the morning looking for Turtle Nests is an awesome experience!

At Crane Point Hammock you there is a place where you can put your feet in the water and have little tiny fish nibble on your toes. It's called a "Fish Pedicure". It tickles!

Beautiful Accommodations, Private & Scenic

The home is absolutely lovely. Clean and comfortable. Having our own pool was fabulous and enjoyed every day. The dock walkway thru the mangroves out to the open water was great. Location is perfect to allow easy drives to Key West or Key Largo.

Wonderful vacation home on the ocean

This home was a fantastic Christmas getaway for the family. It is beautiful house that blends artistically into the surrounding landscape of mangroves, swimming pool, and coconut trees . A private boardwalk weaves through the mangroves to a private dock on the ocean. We saw all kinds of fish and sea life from the dock. We had kayaks delivered to the house and went out on the ocean every day. Fishing, diving, and wonderful restaurants are just minutes away. The house itself is stunning in design and was beautifully decorated. The master bedroom is like "out of a dream" that overlooks the ocean. Everything was perfect. The host was very friendly and attentive. The whole experience was perfect. We would love to come back.

Tranquility

We were able to stay at this tranquil retreat for two full weeks. We explored the keys and used this retreat to cool down and refuel at the end of each day. This home offers a great balance between privacy and stunning views. The pool was a tropical oasis. The house and grounds were immaculate! We loved everything about Mar Azul!

Mar Azul Marathon Florida

We recently stayed seven days at Mar Azul. The picture sand property description on VRBO's site were very accurate. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this home. It was spacious and the views from the two decks were amazing. The pool was very clean and the water temperature was perfect for us. We would definitely consider renting this place in the future.

Family vacation

This is more than a location to sleep; this is a destination. Our two children (8 and 6) had all of their needs met at this house. Between the iguanas, the heated pool, and the wildlife on the dock, all of their needs were met. Although we did adventure out ( sand bar cruise and sea turtle hospital), we were happy to return to the house. Grandparents joined and thoroughly enjoyed the location. We were so happy with our stay, and we look forward to booking another stay next year.

Best Vacation!

This property is great! Lisa was wonderful and very helpful. The description was accurate and the photos don't even begin to describe how beautiful it is! The property was very clean and well-maintained. We would definitely recommend this to our friends and family. Annette's Lobster and Steakhouse was excellent food and for good food and GREAT atmosphere we would recommend the Sunset Grill and Raw Bar. For breakfast definitely the Stuffed Pig. Wonderful time and great memories!!

Tropical Paradise

What a beautiful home, centrally located in the Keys. The house was clean, well appointed, and very comfortable. It’s also conveniently located close to stores, ice cream shops and restaurants, and not far from Sombrero Beach, one of the best beaches on the Keys. We loved the private grounds with the pool, and the walk to the dock through the mangroves, where we were able to easily launch our kayaks that we had delivered for the week. The decks offer a beautiful view where we caught the sunrise almost every morning. Lisa was an excellent host, very attentive and quick to answer any questions. We would love to come back, we highly recommend Mar Azul!

Heavenly oasis

We had a fantastic time. The house and property was beautiful. We spent most of our time by the pool. It felt like our own little oasis. The landscaping was done beautifully. They walk on the pathway to the dock was between beautiful trees. Only complaint was the dock had no place for a boat or jet skis. Lots of debris and not dredged enough. overall we would highly recommend this property for a vacation. The property manager, Lisa, was highly accommodating and very helpful. Very easy to deal with. Had a fantastic time!!

HAND'S DOWN BEST TRIP EVER

We were very lucky to book last minute just before the Holidays – wow, what a fantastic place Mar Azul is! It is like your own resort – walking through the Mangroves to the dock (which is smack on top of the ocean and sooo cool to sit and watch life...pelicans, fish, sea gulls and every once in awhile an iguana would show up!). Our family felt so connected with life while there – the pool area is so tropical, there is lots of seating – staying at a gated property made us feel like millionaires, too! The views are absolutely beautiful and the house had everything we needed. Marathon itself had everything we needed too – good restaurants and so much to do! We are so happy we were able to get down there and we have already booked again for the summer! Thank you to Lisa, you made us feel like family!

Everything you would expect...and more.

The house is exactly the way the photos decpict. It is beautifully decorated. The bedrooms and bathrooms were comfortable and spacious and the kitchen is well-appointed. The best part is the privacy and beauty of the property. My favorite part of staying at Mar Azul was waking up every morning from the master bedroom and looking at the ocean view. If you are looking to get away, this is the perfect vacation home. Lisa and her staff was a joy to work with. She answered every call and email. One night after a storm, some of the trimwork on the patio was damaged. I called Lisa to notify her and she had someone come out right away to clean it up. My husband and I are already trying to plan our next stay at Mar Azul for next year. Marathon is a convenient place to stay in the keys if you are looking to "key hop" to the other islands.

Unwind & Rediscover the Splendor of Life!

What a wonderful place to unwind! Lisa's vacation home is just as advertised. It is clean, nicely stocked, and well furnished. The downstairs queen master gave my Mom her own space and more privacy than she expected. The upstairs king master was incredible (the girls actually took it over) and we slept in the upstairs queen (quite comfy). The decks were fantastic, with beautiful views morning, noon, and night. The girls lived in the pool, and my husband and mother on chaises poolside, but my favorite spot was the dock. I spent every morning there. I was absolutely AMAZED by the number of fish in that water! And the best thing of all? I was blessed by a visit from a wild dolphin! It was one of the most exciting experiences I have ever had. It swam right past the dock, coming up repeatedly for air. I had a great time watching it fish each morning further down the way. Lisa, thank you so much for sharing your home with us! We have memories we will always cherish and it's all thanks to you! Oh and incase you don't know Marathon is great for getting to all parts of the Keys and it's lazy Keyzee atmosphere makes it the perfect spot to reset.

Mar Azul is more than you might expect!

What a MARVELOUS stay we had in this WONDERFUL home right on the ocean! We could not have asked for anything better for our 4-week mid-winter escape. Mar Azul was perfect! The views of the ocean from multiple levels of outdoor porches were spectacular, especially from the master bedroom that opened to a welcoming covered porch. What a view to wake up to each morning! And the sunsets, we had a few that we viewed from the dock out past the mangroves. Oh, and we had two manatees swim by the dock one morning. Did not expect that. The heated pool was a wonderful treat during our stay in January and February. Mar Azul is situated at the end of the street, and we rarely had neighbors. Parking on the property easily accommodated three vehicles. There are so many nearby restaurants, grocery stores, etc. We really enjoyed trying a lot of them out during our stay. We made a few trips to Key West that only took us 70 minutes to make the beautiful drive over the bridges and connected ‘key’ islands. Loved it! And a word about Lisa with whom we communicated on occasion as needed. She readily checked on us to make sure everything was good. We would reach out to her a few times, and she got back to us so quickly with all the information we needed. She was so wonderful. We wished we had been able to meet her in person. Lastly, since the home is dog-friendly, both our dog Oscar and our grand-dog Coconut really enjoyed their stay too. We really can’t say enough good things about Mar Azul.

ABSOLUTELY PERFECT!!

Mar Azul is a dream home! We expected it to be nice, but were in awe of how beautiful this property is. The pictures are accurate, but really don't show how lovely the house is. It is immaculate in cleanliness, and complete with absolutely everything one needs to be comfortable and feel at home. Owner Lisa is an amazing hostess, so easy to work with. She made sure everything was in order for us, and called to be sure we had no problems, both on arrival and as we prepared to leave at the end of the week. She is a very caring hostess! We enjoyed the privacy that Mar Azul offers, and even though there are neighbors, the beautiful trees and landscaping around the property give you complete privacy. Grocery stores and pharmacies are very near, as well as many really good restaurants. Marathon is a great place to stay, because the other islands are all good distances for day trips. The greatest challenge we had was trying to decide to stay in and enjoy the house and meals at home, or if we went out to eat, choosing which one of the many restaurants that are so appealing! Just a note - the Dolphin center is a bit pricey, but very entertaining for all ages. Worth the cost. Overall, we want everyone to know that Mar Azul is a wonderful vacation home and not only do we recommend it to others, but we plan to return! Thank you Lisa!

Ideal For Nature Lovers and Comfort Seekers!

We've been lucky enough to stay at this lovely house twice now. We were first there in the spring with our two children, ages 10 and 16 and then again in June for an adult only vacation. The kids liked swimming in the pool which is small but still very enjoyable: heated nicely in the spring and cool and refreshing in the hotter summer months. I loved jumping in after a long day out on the boat. We rented a boat and kayaks each time and had a wonderful time fishing, snorkeling and exploring. The boardwalk to the water is surrounded by mangroves that are filled with cool birds, lizards and crabs. If you like nature you will love this house! The house itself is very clean. The beds are comfortable and the kitchen is fairly well stocked. There is a bedroom with attached bathroom on the first floor, a separate bedroom and large master bedroom with attached bath on the second floor. The master bedroom is quite spacious with a nice balcony overlooking the ocean. Our family liked to gather there to watch movies in the evenings. We loved going to Herbie's down the street. They have amazing fish and chips and an incredible craft beer selection. The house is not far from Publix grocery store, Kmart, Walgreens and pretty much anything you might need but still feels private and cozy. You are also not far from the Turtle Hospital and Crane Point Nature Center which are both worthwhile places to visit. We like to take one or two trips down to Key West for shopping, museum going and people watching, This is a great home base to come back to after being out and about. We will certainly be back!
