KenMa Cottage

Our calendar is updated in real-time & our nightly rates are accurately displayed. Simply enter your desired dates and click 'Book Now!'

Experience the serene vacation off the grid you've always wanted at KenMa Cottage. This oceanfront home is about peace and quiet, the kind that comes from sitting on a deck overlooking the water and reading a book or walking along rocks smoothed by the sea. A place where time is only measured by the tides, lobster boats coming in from the haul, or the sun sinking behind the spikey pines across the water.

Kendrick Marshall (or KenMa, for short) ran the Port Clyde General Store in the early 1900s and manned the village’s post office. His ancestors still own the cabin and are making it available to people outside the family for the first time in more than 50 years.

Several renovations in the 1980s include an eat-in kitchen with an electric stove, sink, refrigerator, microwave, and coffee maker, a small bathroom with a shower, and a cozy bedroom. The covered deck is just feet from the shore and overlooks the many islands of Muscongus Bay. In the mornings, lobster boats work nearby; in the afternoons, sailboats and kayaks glide by on silver waters. Great books, good conversation, strolls along the shore, and walks to the village replace the need for electronics.

A cabin in woods

You are paying for the million dollar view and if you are a Wyeth fan you are 2 doors down from NC Wyeth property he bought in the 1920's Do not drink water nor give to your dog as it has salt in it. It is basic cabin in the woods plain and simple off grifthwoods

Charming, cozy, cottage, spectacular sunsets, a prompt service

I loved the cottage -- very simple, relaxing, in a remote waterfront location. To me: a cottage. To my partner: a shack...but very nice shack. The fireplace threw out enough heat to keep us cozy in the mornings and evenings (late Sept visit). When it was time to leave, our dog stretched out on the grass, his expressive eyes saying "Are you guys serious? Why are we leaving?" On the not so great: the tap water was too salty for drinking/not potable. We were not prepared for this; however, the management promptly delivered 5-gallon jugs. We brought our own firewood to keep us going for a few days...then hunted down expensive little bundles.

Wonderful Cottage

The cottage has a wonderful vintage vibe) We enjoyed our stay using the Porch allot with the Seaside View and used the fireplace at night. This stay is nothing but relaxing, curl up with a good book) Use binoculars for watching the Fisherman and viewing sailboats. The local people are so friendly. There are lots of art galleries to poke around in) And the Port Clyde General Store has good prices for Lobsters. We were there a few times. This will be a do over vacation!

The perfect place to relax!

Everything about this cottage helped us to relax. The view was a amazing and we spent plenty of time just sitting on the comfortable chairs on the porch reading, watching the water and wildlife. The decor is charmingly spare. We enjoyed a fire several nights as the weather was still cool in June. We found the bed to be very comfortable and slept so well in the peace and quiet. The bathroom is simple but adequate. We had an issue with the sink and communication was prompt. The walk to town is easy so this is a place that you could just park your car and not have to drive anywhere for days.

Peaceful retreat

Once again, my stay at KenMa was fantastic. The serenity of this cottage is unbeatable. My only disappointment was that there was not 1 stick of firewood available upon my arrival to take the damp chill away.

Magical KenMa

We had a wonderful stay at the KenMa cottage. It is absolutely magical and tucked away in a perfect, quiet location on the coastal fishing waters of Port Clyde. A short drive to everything you need in Rockland, Rockport or Camden. You’ll feel worlds away. We’ll be back!

Picturesque, peaceful stay

We had a lovely time at the Kenma Cottage. It was perfect for us--location by the water, full kitchen, cozy and clean, and dog friendly. We appreciated having all the linens in sealed bags, and the efforts to sanitize. The cottage is decorated beautifully and we really got a sense of what it would be like to live in such a wonderful place. The answering service and management at Summer Maine were responsive to our concern about the salty tap water. Our only recommendations are: to let folks know about the possibility for salty tap water in the booking information (it is in the packet in the cottage, but not in the info we received in advance), to note for dog companions that ticks may be a concern in the surroundings of the cottage, and to perhaps add a dehumidifier for those foggy days when the cottage gets very damp. We will definitely look to stay at Kenma again. This review was submitted while the home was managed by a different property management company.

A Cottage by the Sea

We enjoyed ... TREASURED! ... our 11 days at KenMa Cottage (our second stay here). The view by the sea can`t be beat! Unfortunately, several unexpected maintenance issues needed to be addressed: water leaks in the toilet and the water heater, the stove-top burner needing replacing, and overgrown hedges obscuring the water view. Upon notifying Summer Maine management (even late-night and on the weekend) we were met with kind response and given immediate support all the way through timely remedy! We deduced that in addition to normal wear of mechanical things, some critical issues had not been reported by previous guests. Life happens! Recommendation: The current shower detracts from the quality of one`s stay at this property. A new tempered glass shower with sliding door (available in small sizes and listed at Home Depot for as little as $600) would ENORMOUSLY ENHANCE the `ick factor` that one feels in the current bathroom. The setting is lovely!

We've been staying in various cottages in and around Port Clyde for many years. This was our first time in Hellofaspot. While the setting is beautiful and the old cottage quite homey and comfortable, we were very disappointed in the lack of cleanliness compared to the other places we've rented over the years. Due to Covid concerns this year, housekeeping needed extra hours to clean(we couldn't get in until 5PM and previous renters had to leave before 9 AM). Because if this extra time spent cleaning, we felt confident that our place would be safe. But in fact, we spent our first hours wiping down surfaces left untouched by housekeeping, in addition to other tasks that needed attention. The whole place is in need of a deep clean, both inside and out. Aside from this, we had a great time in the cottage and loved the front lawn. The entry down to the dock was a bit precarious to navigate but once down, it was a fascinating view of all the activities in the harbor. The sunsets and stars were breathtaking.

A Kenma Classic

We had a very relaxing stay in the Kenma cottage, a home with 100 years of history. It has all the basics you need for a quiet vacation with an absolutely stunning view from the porch. Ideal for two people but can sleep a third person in the sitting room open area. Main bedroom is small. It is within a 5 minute drive of Port Clyde so if you forget something the General Store is close at hand. I would describe the house as small and missing luxuries such as a dishwasher and washing machine so often expected by modern day renters. The fact that there is no Wi-Fi did not present a problem, we were able still connect using the regular cell phone signal. Being able to buy, cook and eat fresh lobster every day ensured our vacation embraced the true value of a coastal holiday in Maine. Perfect getaway ion the water

Lovely well maintained but very old all-wood cabin with private rock beach. Only 5 minutes from the `coop` to buy fresh fish and lobster. Lots of thoughtful touches, all windows open all the way to permit the sand an fresh air to enter and all are screened to keep out the books. Books to read and games to play. Magnificent ocean facing porch. No Internet, but T-mobile connection on my cell worked OK. This review was submitted while the home was managed by a different property management company.

A Port Clyde Treasure

I`m hesitant to give a fantastic review because I`d prefer not to share this absolute treasure! The location is very well off the beaten path and quiet. Throughout my stay I was in mandatory quarantine due to COVID 19. I brought all my food, and found the kitchen to be well supplied. Both beds were comfortable, with good mattresses. If you are looking for 5-star accomodations and pampering this is not for you. If you enjoy the basics and are in Port Clyde to unwind, this is it! The views are spectacular from the porch or the beach. The cottage is unique; I enjoyed getting to know it and plan to stay again. In another description of the property, it was stated `dogs thrive here.` I would take that a step further and say `dogs thrive here because they are mirroring what they see and feel from their humans.` This review was submitted while the home was managed by a different property management company.

Five star experience with a beautiful water view

Rating Details: The property manager was very helpful. The vacation rental was spotless. I was very happy with the location. I was very satisfied with the condition of the vacation rental. Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: We had a perfect week at this wonderful house. If I could give it six stars for location, I would. It has a 180 degree water view - from the Port Clyde harbor on out to distant islands - with amazing sunsets. Plus a beautiful lawn and steps down to the water and a dock. Big windows allow you to look out over the water plus there's a deck with a hot tub and a grill. Being able to walk into town for the boat to Monhegan, a group kayak trip, coffee or dinner waterside or to pick up something at the general store, make this a very easy, extremely pleasant place to completely relax. My two children, husband and I absolutely loved it and we all highly recommend it.

Midcoast Maine Harborside Gem

Rating Details: The property manager was very helpful. The vacation rental was spotless. I was very happy with the location. I was very satisfied with the condition of the vacation rental. Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: This is a wonderful cottage up on the bluff overlooking Port Clyde Harbor with fantastic views - especially of the sunset! The house is bright, clean and comfortable and the deck at the front of the house overlooking the water is a fabulous place to sit and watch the boats go by. There's a hot tub next to the deck for a relaxing soak with that wonderful view. There's also a dock, which is perfect for tying up a boat or lauching kayaks. It's a short walk into the village for ice cream, groceries, restaurants, kayak/paddle board rentals and fresh lobsters. It's about a half mile walk to the Marshall Point Lighthouse and to Drift In Beach - great at low tide. You can catch the boat from Port Clyde to Monhegan Island and spend the day roaming the trails. Rockland, a great Maine seaside town with galleries, museums, dining, and ferries to the islands of North Haven and Vinylhaven is 30 minutes away. We will certainly return!
