Great place to escape busy living! Out in Christmas tree growing country. Everything you need to get away from it all. The screened in porch has a swing and beautiful view. Wanted to hang out there the whole visit. Great host!
My family owned this property for many years and Daniel has done an excellent job to improve it! The setting is amazing - so many stars and so much quiet. I knew it was way back, so I took time to meal plan. Everything I needed to cook was there as well as some basic spices. The beds were super comfy and the towels were super fluffy! Wifi was great (did I mention all those improvements Daniel made?), the heating system was fabulous and the yard and driveway were very well maintained. The front porch might have been even better than I remembered it - one of my favorite places in the whole world. My grown kids and I had a great time remembering the good old days. We went to Grayson Highlands State Park, the top of Pond mountain and some back road driving. The mountains restore my soul and I can't wait to go back for summer fun at Zaloo's!

Absolutely beautiful /Just what we needed/ Rustic charm
We had a great time. Everything we needed was there. My favorite part was the porch. I sat out there every morning and drank coffee. We seen deer a couple of times. The town was great and had the best market. Could definitely see us going back!!
My husband and I booked this cabin to get away from the hustle and bustle and reconnect with nature and it did not disappoint! The selling point for this property is its outdoor spaces and it's remote feeling. The screened in porch is perfect for lounging, playing games and taking in the secluded environs. When we weren't exploring Grayson Highlands and West Jefferson, the porch was where we spent our time. Also, the firepit up the hill is marvelous! We sat out there for a good while one night sipping whiskey and enjoying our music and the sounds of nature. Now when it says "rustic", that is NOT an understatement - this property is about as rustic as it comes all the way down to spiders, uneven floors and and extremely lived in furniture but it served its purpose. And i would agree with other guests that the master bedroom is amazing with the all the windows and comfortable bed! Our host Daniel provided detailed driving instructions so we wouldn't get lost driving up there in the dark and without a signal. Be warned that there is no formal drive leading up to the house itself - the house is up on a hill but you park your car down at the bottom of the hill and carry your stuff UP. We managed as able bodied and hearty folks who don't pack light but if you have ANY mobility issues or require ADA consideration, this is NOT your spot. The road up to the cabin is indeed steep and bumpy and although it seems as if it is grated regularly, I would agree that an AWD vehicle is best - especially if you intend to continue on up the road past the cabin. We did that and it was narrow, unpaved, and had lots of large rocks and ruts but our F-250 handled it nicely. If we book again it will be to spend more time enjoying the property and less time out and about as it turned out to be a little out of the way for our adventures.
Daniel was a fabulous host. Answered questions quickly. Clean cabin. Very remote area. You'll definitely need AWD vehicle. Decor is rustic vintage. Beds were extremely comfortable.
Daniel was awesome to work with, when I could not find the lockbox for the key at checkin he quickly responded. I did find it on my own, but maybe be more explicit in describing where it’s kept? Nevertheless it was quickly remedied. I had no cell service with AT&T and he suggested I use Wi-Fi calling which worked beautifully. The cabin is VERY remote and when my GPS went out I had to find it the old fashion way by stopping and asking people directions. I suggest an SUV, the road to the property is steep and it had just rained so I slipped and slid going up. The remoteness is what I sought out, as I’m a teacher and crave quiet in my down time. All you hear is the sound of nature. There is a lovely screened in porch with a porch swing overlooking an exquisite mountain view. Great fire pit area with ample seating. The cabin is rustic but has everything I needed including full size washer and dryer. Paper products are provided, as well as dish soap, shampoo, hair dryer, coffee and k-cups. The bed in the Master is VERY comfortable and has a French door view of the mountains. I was there in early spring and the view was unobstructed. There is a mountain spring on the property and at night I sat out on the porch and could here it babble. There is also a nice deck with comfortable table, chairs and plenty of bench seating., both charcoal and gas grill. Make sure you pack all your food needs the closest grocery is a good 45 min drive away. Don’t miss the Grayson Highland State Park and the wild ponies there. That alone was worth my drive from South Carolina! Living area is small but has large flat screen Tv with cable and Netflix. Plenty warm inside for the cool mountain nights and bedroom has overhead fan and electric fireplace too. You are surrounded by antiques and I felt like I was back in time. It’s a steep hill to walk up to get your car unpacked but I’m 62 and managed. Thanks for the peaceful stay!
We rented this property for our first family vacation (husband, wife and 16 month old son) We wanted privacy and someplace away from it all. We got just what we wanted in this property, far enough away but not too far from things to do. The listing is exactly as described, it had everything we needed to feel at home. The view is breathtaking and we even had some deer visit while we were there. If your looking for simplicity and peace and quiet this is the one for you! We will recommend this cabin to everyone we know and we can’t wait to be back!
We stayed for a long weekend the property is secluded and out of the way. It is very comfortable and unique with amazing views. I would recommend this place if you love the mountains and like to hike and be in the middle of nature. The place was clean and had all the essentials we felt at home and rested well. I hope to be back in the future
