Nice accomodations

The cabins are rustic as stated but had everything we needed for our Itasca weekend. Planning on going back in the fall to check out the UTV trails. No issues

Property in poor condition. Bedrooms misrepresented. Beds looked like used previously. Doors not secure. Kitchen, dining, and 1 bed were in same room. We refused to stay.

Terrible Experience: Unavailable Room and Unresponsive Support

My friend and I drove over four hours to this lodge, only to be told upon arrival that our room was unavailable due to "maintenance issues." However, we could clearly see through the windows that someone was staying in that room. We booked this reservation three months in advance and received no updates from the host or VRBO about the room's unavailability. When talking to customer support for a refund, VRBO informed us that the host was unresponsive to them for days. Only after providing proof of payment and sharing text exchanges between the host and me, which we had while trying to find an alternative location, did we eventually get a refund from VRBO. Additionally, the host's older male friend creepily offered us to "stay with him in his cabin,"which made us incredibly uncomfortable, especially since my friend and I are women in our 20's. Overall, this was a very poor experience with terrible communication and dishonesty from the host. Fortunately, we found a much nicer place to stay in Bemidji.

Holiday ruined by cancellation

I didn't get to stay. The owner was not in contact at all. I messaged a week before arrival and he mentioned plumbing issues but thought they may be fixed by the time I arrived. If not, he had another cabin available. I received a cancellation from VRBO late the night before I was to arrive. I got a run-around story from the owner that he'd been in contact with VRBO multiple weeks prior and claimed he was blocked and the other cabin was now booked to another person with only a first name (which was my actually my first name). I had to book a last minute hotel 45 minutes away and since it was a holiday weekend - it was NOT a nice hotel as most were booked. This added an additional hour and half of driving every day for our 4 day stay - most through wooded areas filled with deer.

The place was not acceptable so we did not stay there. We left and didn't stay.

There was dog hair on the entry mat and rust stains and what appeared to be black mold in the tub. The space was much older and un kept than the photo shown on the VRBO site I booked it from. That why we didn't stay there....

Nice weekend

Basic but functional. Quiet. Good base to explore the natural area. We were lucky to have had a real spring weekend so early in Apr.

Weekend getaway

James communicates quickly and thoroughly and provides every detail possible to make the stay better. The place was extremely clean and as the pictures depict. As others have mentioned, the water is sketchy so make sure to bring drinking water. To me, it just smells like old pipes but I did not use it to brush my teeth. It is no fault of the owner, just old pipes in my opinion (the water smells like iron). And the story behind these buildings is really neat so be sure to ask the owner about its history. The bed was comfortable. This is just a simple place to get a way too. No frills but I went there to be in nature and this was perfect and James is so nice and wants your stay to be perfect as well. And his dog is such a sweet one! Just a big teddy bear! There was a space heater in the bathroom to keep the chill out, another space heater in the living area, plus the baseboard heater. I'm hot natured so I didn't need much heat. I even turned the baseboard heater on low. I was surprised how tight the room was. I stayed there to be close to the Mississippi Headwaters and to have a quiet getaway and it was perfect. It is also only about 30 minutes from Bemidji and Park Rapids. If you want a quiet, simple place to stay, and at a great price, this is perfect! Thanks James for a great stay!

Nice

Property manager communication is excellent. James always responded to my emails and messages. This is exactly what we were expecting. We were just up for a weekend getaway. Just wanted a decient low-cost place that we could sleep at and eat dinner at while we "played" all day. The place does have Central heat, it was not on. The electric baseboard heater by the dining room table did a decent job of keeping the place comfortable. This is an old house. There was a big insulation gap on the bottom of the front door. Be prepared, the bathroom is cold I think the place would benefit from either a space heater in the bathroom, or a little electric fireplace. However, property manager does live on site. Apparently he will provide a space heater if you request one. We did not, because we basically just ate there and slept there and we were out. Nice little place, easy to find. Definitely bring your own water for drinking. The coffee maker was a little dirty. But we gave it a good cleaning and we had no issues.

Cozy Spot

Everything was great. I went camping the night before and found this place for Saturday night. It was a great transition from the backpack campground I was staying at. The place was clean, comfortable, and quaint. Had a nice fire in the backyard and loved how cold the freezer got. Thanks for the Stay! Brett

Excellent host

I came to MN on a work contract, but the hotels in Bemidji were 100% booked for graduation week, so I had to look outside of the area to stay for my first week in MN. The closest lodging was here, about 30 minutes from Bemidji in a rural area. Jim, the host, was incredibly accommodating. He offered to pick me up from the airport because the rental car companies were closed at that late hour, and also arranged for someone to drive me back to the airport the next morning so I could pick up my rental car! My situation was unique, so I really appreciate the hospitality. I was able to order an Instacart delivery before I arrived, so I had supplies for me and my cat until I was able to do a grocery shop for myself. The cabin is definitely on the rustic, simple side, but has pretty much what you'd need for your stay, like a toaster, microwave, etc. The water is sketchy, so bring your own drinking water. The location is great for being close to Itasca State Park for recreation, and checking out the Mississippi headwaters. -- Sara K.

Comfortable and cozy cabins that were very well stocked for anything and everything we needed for the weekend. Jim, the host is very accommodating and friendly. We chose it because it was close to Itasca. The price was right, the location excellent and the cabins were perfect. Highly recommended!

Rustic cabin in the woods

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this rental. The location was great for our excursions to Itasca State Park and Bemidji State Park. Our host had great communication with keeping our small dog away from other dogs on the property. The cabin was rustic (located on a gravel road), had all the amenities we needed and more -- full-sized fridge/freezer, oven/stove, cookware, utensils, tv, a/c. My only suggestion would be a thicker mattress pad/covering on the beds. If you're used to a luxury resort, this is not the place for you; however, if you're familiar with cabin-living you will not be disappointed!

It’s a cabin

It’s a cabin. Like the description says, it is not the a hotel. I loved the peaceful atmosphere and trees! We were there for one night prior to day on the water at Itasca Park. All the other reviews are spot on! The water in the shower is questionable; smells metal and was impossible to shower with. Again, it’s a cabin in the woods. The owner and his daughter are very nice and respectful. Communication was great.
