A lovely stay

Perfect for a trip with a group of friends, would definitely stay here again! The house was perfect for our group (3 couples + 2 siblings), great location for any outings across the island, and plenty of space for us to hang out or eat in without feeling on top of each other. Owner was very helpful and friendly

Great Location

Lots of space in a great location, away from the traffic of Bar Harbor and close to the truly lovely Seal Cove area. Outdoor deck looks over a forest. Easy to get to Park entrance and use their buses. Owner was very helpful. Second bathroom on second floor is quite tiny, but not a problem.

Nice stay close from the National Park and Bar Harbor

We liked our stay at Edie's place. We were a large group of 8 and were easily accommodated in the house. The house is quiet and well equipped for a large group and is conveniently located from the National park and Bar Harbor. I would definitely recommend the place.

Lovely house close to Acadia

This is a very well kept old house, full of New England charm, well stocked, with very comfortable beds. It's super convenient to Acadia and Bar Harbor without being in the middle of the hubbub. We had a lovely time!

Seal Harbor Happy

Perfect location - quiet, friendly and close to hiking and biking. Good nearby restaurant and great bike rental/store - but not crowded like Bar Harbor. Edie was very flexible with us and super-fast to answer questions and give great suggestions. House was well-stocked. We are already planning our next visit!

Perfect spot to explore Arcadia & Bar Habor!

Edie’s place was perfect for our family getaway! Great location - 15 minutes to Acadia hikes (Cadillac & Beehive) and easy stroll (.5 miles) to Seal Harbor beach. Restaurants of Bar Harbor are a short drive which makes this rental a great choice. The house it self is huge and well stocked with everything you need for a group trip. Great value for the stay!

Acadia National Park Visit

The home is perfect for visiting Acadia National Park. It has plenty of room for the family. The location to the park is great. The area is quiet and has a diner and coffee shop a short walk away. You could also walk to the pick up for the Island explorer if needed. We would definitely stay again.

Traveling with a group of cyclists and this house was just perfect. Just outside the park and not too far from Bar Harbor. Host was great and the garage with sofas was a sweet place to land after a day riding the park and Cadillac Mtn.

Beautiful spacious home, walking distance to beach

We stayed here for five nights with my parents and our three children. There was plenty of room for everyone. It was comfortable and quiet. We cooked almost every night and the kitchen was well appointed. We enjoyed having dinners out on the back patio and walking to the beach. It was the perfect spot and we’d love to come back.

The best of both worlds

The property was on the edge of Acadia where we hiked several trails and visited 3 different beaches and just totally enjoyed the fresh air and sunshine and scenic views. It was only a short walk down to Seal Harbor for the beach and swings for the granddaughters. And Bar Harbor was only 7 miles away for the walking town experience. The best of both worlds!!!!

Great Base Camp

We were two families with young children and found the home to be a great fit for us. It was within walking distance to a beach great for exploring and wading and a coffee/ice cream shop. Also - it was a short trip to lots of hiking trails, scenic spots, and the horse carriage rides which we all enjoyed. The house was very well stocked with towels, soap, and supplies you might not expect like a tablecloth for the picnic table on the deck, laundry basket, cooler bags, portable chairs, and family games. Edith our host touched base throughout our stay to ensure things were going well. We would definitely stay there again!

Good location

The location was very good. The house smelled musty, and the shower curtains had either dirt or mold on the bottom. The couch cushions were very old and provided no support so when you set on them you sank in way too much; I guess we noticed this since on a rainy day we spent more time in the house.

Great location!!

We really enjoyed our stay at Seal Harbor! The location is perfect and easily accessible to the park, Bar Harbor and Southwest Harbor. The house is older and slightly dated but it was clean, and spacious for our group. We had success cooking in the kitchen and had enough cooking supplies. Edie does supply basic needs such as laundry detergent, and cooking oil which is helpful. The beds are comfortable and the rooms are big. Edie was wonderful to work with. She did tell us that she was order new coaches, and they might be delivered during our stay & they were. We would stay here again.

Roomy house in great location

Roomy older home on a quiet residential street in Seal Harbor away from the crowds of Bar Harbor. Great location with quick access to Acadia and Jordan Pond from the south. Bike rental shop just down the street. Comfortable beds with clean linens Clean bathrooms with plenty of hot water and clean towels. Spacious kitchen is a bit dated but totally functional. Great big dining room table. House is older with a few creaks, and some of the carpeting and upholstery is a bit tired. Overall, a great stay at a good price for plenty of space in a great location.

About the host

Hosted by Edith Dunham

Host profile image
My family has spent summers in Seal Harbor for 5 generations. My daughters and I have spent many winters here as well, enjoying Mount Desert Island in all weather. I love to share the beauty and magic of Seal Harbor, and I hope you have a great experience!

Why they chose this property

After selling the house I grew up in here, I bought this house from my cousins who were moving into assisted living. I love the feeling of the woods off of the deck and the quiet street. I am improving the house constantly, trying to upgrade the furniture, upholstery, and rugs. I have bought all new mattresses for the beds, new couches, a dining room table as well as the deck furniture.

What makes this property unique

Every direction you walk in from my house brings you somewhere beautiful. You can walk to the beach and the village green any time of day, or walk up the hill towards the Jordan Pond house and the carriage roads, or walk up Mackenzie Rd. to the Dunham School and the small playground.
