Pet Friendly! Elk Hill Retreat w/ Gorgeous Views

Elk Hill is a spacious rental home with a large yard and deck to enjoy the view of the mountains. With bedrooms, bathrooms, and living areas on both levels, this home offers lots of interior space for everyone to gather together or spread out for separate activities.
The living area on the main level features a stone fireplace, lots of natural light, deck access, and plenty of games or puzzles for you to enjoy during your stay. The kitchen is expansive and has a gas range, plenty of counter space, and cabinet storage. The adjoining dining room has seating for all guests and an additional breakfast nook. Also on this level, are two bedrooms, each with king beds and full baths. Each bedroom on this level has a flat screen tv.
On the second level, there is another living area with a pool table and kitchenette. The third bedroom has a king bed, full bath and walk-in shower, yard access, and a stone fireplace. For kids, there are bunk beds and a cozy book nook with a sleeper sofa, as well as an attached bathroom that includes a bathtub.
It's only minutes from downtown historic Banner Elk, and equally close to Sugar Mountain for all your winter sports desires.
Elk Hill is dog friendly, with a nonrefundable pet fee and prior approval from our office at Resort Real Estate and Rentals.
No Check-in's Thanksgiving Day or Christmas Day. All guests are required to sign a rental agreement upon booking.

Great place to stay

This place was awesome. View was very nice. Almost all we need was there. Felt we were just home. Make sure to open the bathroom door to make the room warm (heater is in the bathroom, there is a touchscreen heater in the room itself but it seems not working or maybe its just me, had to research how to use it) Didn’t know that we have to do it like that so the first night the room was so cold but good thing there were enough blankets to keep us warm, the fireplace didn’t do much to keep us warm. Overall, still place is good to stay for a large group.

Nice

It was nice with the exception of finding dog poop in the dining area. That just was unacceptable because I used to clean houses for a living and we checked wall to wall for cleanliness and made sure it was left in mint condition. We wanted to get away for just a couple of days but when I saw that it just threw me into a panicked mode. Anyways we did enjoy our stay.

Fantastic Views

Beautiful property! The views from the deck were unbelievable. Lots of space for our dogs to roam outside in the yard and lots of space inside for our family and my sister’s family. Convenient to restaurants and tourist attractions. I would definitely stay again!

Elk Hill Retreat

We stayed at this Elk Hill Retreat home, overall the home/neighborhood is pretty good, located on top of a steep hill with great views. Bathrooms are kind of dated. The check in process was kind of hectic as check in as at 4pm and we did not get to have access until almost an hour later (and check out at 10 sharp) the lady at the management office was very busy and was getting slammed with calls.

Elk Hill Retreat is perched atop a hill about 6 min from the Sugar Mountain resort, offering panoramic scenes that will make your jaw drop. I'm talking about waking up to the sun kissing the peaks and winding down with the most breathtaking sunset you can imagine. It's like Mother Nature decided to show off, and Elk Hill is the front-row seat.We were a group of 11, and there was room for everyone and then some. No elbow-jabbing or awkward bathroom sharing situations here. The property is spacious, both inside and out. The living areas are cozy without feeling cramped, and the bedrooms – oh, the bedrooms! Comfy beds, fresh linens – they nailed the whole "home away from home" vibe.But the real MVPs were the thoughtful touches. Board games? Check. Bedding? Check. Dishes, cooking utensils, and spices? Triple check! It was like they read our minds and anticipated our every need. We had a master chef in our group, and the well-stocked kitchen made our culinary adventures a breeze. Imagine whipping up a feast while gazing at those mountain views – talk about a recipe for happiness.Look, I won't sugarcoat the issues with the property management company. They were a bit slack in the communication and follow-through department. There were times when we felt a bit in the dark, playing a waiting game for responses and waiting until the last minute for directions and final instructions. Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: We have stayed at this house for several years in a row for over a week each time, and we’ve always enjoyed our visits. The house itself has typically been adequate for our needs. However, during our most recent stay, we encountered a few issues.First, the downstairs heating does not work as effectively as it should, leaving the area too cold to comfortably accommodate guests. Additionally, there was a noticeable gas smell in the downstairs area, which has been a recurring issue.On the last night of our stay, all of the gas in the house stopped working entirely. This meant that the fireplaces, downstairs heaters, and the stove were all nonfunctional in the middle of the night. It became very cold, and we had to move everyone upstairs to make it through the night.The following morning, I started calling the rental office around 8:00 AM. I called again shortly before 9:00 and was able to speak with someone. I explained the situation and requested a refund for the final night due to the lack of heat and the inconvenience it caused. I was informed that because I did not call the emergency number during the night (which I wasn’t aware of), they were unable to assist me.I asked the representative to contact the owners to discuss the matter, especially since we are long-time renters and would like to continue staying at this property in the future if these issues can be resolved. Unfortunately, I have not received a call back, which is disappointing.I hope this review provides helpful feedback for the owners. While we’ve enjoyed staying at this house over the years, addressing these heating issues and improving communication about emergency procedures would make future stays much more comfortable.Happy New Year!

Great Space, Beautiful Views and Welcoming Interior

Two separate families with elementary age children enjoyed this property for a vacation and ski weekend. The home was clean and spacious with gorgeous mountain views. We enjoyed its proximity to the grocery store, ski rentals, general provisions, and also the local resorts. We would definitely go with this location again.

The teens especially liked the game room with a separate kitchen , TV, pool table, etc. on the ground floor. Cleaners need to pay a little more attention to cleaning the throw rugs in the bathrooms, vacuuming and some maintenance needs. Otherwise all was great.

Good Trip and Location

Everything worked well, property had lots of room and worked well for multiple families sharing. Kids really enjoyed the pool table. Location to Sugar Mountain is great. Be aware of steep driveway if it's icy.
