Do not have a single complaint about the house. It was stocked with necessary pots/pans/plates/silverware, etc. Appliances were new and modern. UNBELIEVABLY CLEAN! Which was HUGE for me the clean freak, lol. Living room nice comfy furniture ~ dining room large table had six chairs but we fit eight comfortably. The front covered porch can be used for additional sleeping if you bring an air mattress. The upstairs bathroom is located in back bedroom so you have to walk through another bedroom to get to it ~ wasn't a problem for my group but just an FYI. Soft sheets & blankets on beds. Outdoor patio table and gas grill ~ we used almost every day of our stay. And for those of us that are allergic to animals this is NOT pet friendly ~ which is one of the main reasons we chose it. Owner communicated promptly and politely. I highly recommend!
Nicely renovated, clean home on end of street in a quiet neighborhood. Communication with host was good and checkin was easy. Home had everything we needed for a week stay and is centrally located in the Keeweenaw penninsula, so it was a great "home base" for our travels. Beds were very comfortable and plentiful with 4 queen beds in the upstairs. As most older homes in the area, the layout of the house might not be manageable for people with physical limitations (lots of stairs, uneven floors in some rooms, older step-in bathtub). We did enjoy the spaciousness of the home, and would rent this home again.
We had a great stay at the Keweenaw Hideout. It has the steep stairs like a lot of the miner houses in Calumet area, of course, so better for older kids who aren’t going to fall easily.
It’s on the corner so feels really private, and it’s a quiet neighborhood, which we enjoyed. You don’t hear a lot of traffic.
Full bath on ground floor, then a half bath upstairs which was a very nice convenience. (I didn’t have to hear a bunch of fighting over the bathrooms)
Had extra blankets for when it gets COLD in June, which we also enjoyed.
We were away from the house a lot at the lake, but it had everything we needed while we were there, lots of room for a family of 5 to spread out. Plenty of beds. Good laundry area. Outer porch for shoes, buckets of rocks, gear, etc.
We loved the giant mega-skillet :) and used it to make breakfast several mornings. Big kitchen.
Fans in the bedrooms, if you like fans when you sleep.
We’d 100% stay here again.
We were in for our daughter’s graduation from MTU and this was the perfect place for my husband and I and our two daughters plus my mother in law. Spacious kitchen was nice for making food to serve at my daughter’s house, grill for when we ate at the house. Comfortable couches and beds.
Very nice kitchen, refrigerator stove and well supplied with paper products, cooking utensils and a nice gas grill outside. Lots of towels and a nice washer and dryer. Plenty of hot water. Lots of living space and comfortable beds. WI-FI worked great. Scott was prompt to respond to any questions. We enjoyed our 11 night stay.
We visited the area to ride ATVs.
This property met our needs very well. It was clean, comfortable, quiet and well furnished/equipped. It also offered sufficient off-road parking and easy access to ATV trails.
The online listing is a bit misleading re: the 2nd bath/toilet. The toilet is in the basement, which we only found by accident.
Overall,, we’d look to rent this again for our next trip to the area.
Very nice location. Close to highway 41, but far enough off the highway (no vehicle noise).
Everything in the rental us as it should be…clean, stocked, easy to find items needed inside, etc.
Cute and spacious home in a lovely peaceful, quiet spot tucked away off the main road through town. Property is not extravagant, but it's very comfortable, lots of space. We had six people and we all had adequate privacy as needed. Lots of towels, pots, pans, dishes, eating and cooking utensils, extra bed sheets, a grill and grilling utensils, and even a Crock-Pot! Spotted a wasp nest being built on the house and our host had pest control out there within hours. For extra supplies there was a Dollar General just a minute up the main road (really wonderful staff there, very helpful and friendly) and a gas station a minute up the road in the other direction. Very quick drive to/from Calumet, close to Houghton and Hancock. Perfect for our needs. We hope to book here again on our upcoming trips to the area.
Note that it is not handicap accessible (and is not being advertised as such); multiple steps to climb to enter the property and some of the doorway thresholds can be challenging to maneuver with a walker. All the bedrooms are located upstairs, but the living room has a futon and comfortable couch for sleeping. This is not a criticism, but for those who have mobility challenges it may be helpful to be aware of this in advance.
