About this property
Stone Eco House on 120 acres with a pond, meadows, brook, and hiking trails.
A comfortable and spacious stone home set back from the quiet rural road on 120 acre property with gorgeous light and stunning views. This is our family home with a large open kitchen and dining room. Our open living space is complete with bioethanol fireplace, large sofa, chairs, and television. Also on the first floor is mudroom and half bath. Upstairs, you will find a large master bedroom and bathroom with mountain views, laundry room, two more bedrooms, an additional full bathroom, and a library. Heading to the basement level, there is one bedroom, full bathroom, and a recreational space with beds, sofa, television, and ping pong table.
There is a large brick patio off of the dining room for outdoor dining or relaxing. This looks out over the pond and a second terrace with a campfire circle. Additional amenities include a covered garden pavilion in the apple orchard near the house, an in-ground trampoline, volleyball net, soccer goal, croquet, and a canoe for leisurely paddling or fishing. We have over 100 acres of woods to explore or take a hike along some well worn paths down to a magical brook and private meadows hidden deep in the forest.
If you are concerned as we are about your ecological footprint while on vacation, our property is designed and built as a net zero Passive House (read more about Passive House here: https://naphnetwork.org/). While the house was built in 2016, it is being wrapped in a solid 18" thick stone exterior that does not disturb the finished interior of the house. The stonework is currently at the top of the first floor but will continue to be built out to the full height of the house using field stones gathered from the grounds of Little Birds Farm, which will allow the structural stone house to last for hundreds of years in line with building for seven generations. Some of the other sustainable features include a whole house energy recovery fresh air ventilation system, heat pump heating and cooling, triple glazed super-insulated windows and doors, super-insulated walls basement slab and roof, heat pump water heater, solar arrays on the house and garden pavilion roofs, heat pump dryer, induction cooktop stove, all LED lighting, ceiling fans in the bedrooms and living room, no VOC and low VOC paints and adhesives, reclaimed wood floors and beams, an electric type 2 charger for plug in electric vehicles (electricity provided as part of the rental), and a permaculture new orchard and garden. The house is cleaned with all ecologically friendly nontoxic, biodegradable products, and we will have a care package of ecofriendly toiletry products for you to try on your stay and hopefully find some brands you like to start purchasing when you return home.
