Amazing Home with View of Catskills

An absolutely amazing stay. Stunning views from the great room, the ever-changing landscape and skies. Home itself is very comfortable with luxurious touches including cozy gas fireplace and soaking tub. Kitchen had everything you'd need to make meals and even bake a gingerbread house. A lovely welcome touch from the host (a bottle of excellent red wine) was much appreciated, thank you Amelia! We did not want to leave and hope to come back!

Exceptional place

Our family was full of admiration for this wonderful house and how carefully and thoughtfully it was organized for our four-day stay. Whenever one of us wanted something and wondered where it might be, we did a brief search--and there it was. Our family of eight prepared and served Thanksgiving dinner. The house provided the setting, space and contents for us to gather and enjoy one another's company. Thank you, Amelia.

Lovely house in the woods!

We very much enjoyed our stay here! The house was spacious and full of natural light, quiet and well kept. The owner was available and bent over backwards to help us when we reached out. I definitely recommend visiting this property!

Beautiful home

This home was perfect for us. Our family attended a 3 day wedding in Germantown. We had 3 groups and each had their own bedroom and bathroom. A perfect layout for our situation. Thank you to Amelia for the use of her beautiful home.

Perfect weekend

We put our friends up for the weekend - 3 couples plus 4 adult children and one dog. Everyone had lots of private space, comfy beds, all kitchen needs, and magnificent views. The downstairs media room worked perfectly as bedroom #5. Amelia was responsive and helpful. Grateful to have such a lovely place nearby.

Amazing weekend

We fully enjoyed our stay at Amelia's wonderful house! The view is incredible, and the house is very cozy and big enough for a group of 9 people: nice decoration and furniture, comfortable beds, and a fully stocked kitchen. Supreme cleanliness and attention to detail, highly recommend!

Beautiful home

Everything about this place was nice for a nice winter stay! House was clean and had everything you would need! Games, ping pong table and great collection of CDs. Great Location to different activities, skiing was 30mins away, quaint towns were 10 mins away. The owner was also very easy to communicate to answer any questions we had.

The property is beautiful, clean, spacious, filled with all the amenities to make your stay perfect!

My husband, dog, and I had an absolute wonderful time staying at the property. It was extremely relaxing, serene, and private. The property is well maintained, very clean, and filled with all the essentials you would need. The location is perfect with easy access to Hudson and other charming villages. Amelia was highly responsive and helpful throughout the entire process. All in all, the cabin and the surroundings made for a perfect Easter weekend getaway!

Great family home with beautiful sunsets over the mountains. Limited yard for children to play.

Easy check-in and communication with owner was prompt. House could have been cleaner for my liking and disappointed gas grill was not fully functional. Location is close to Lake Taghkanic State Park which we enjoyed on a couple of occasions. Fire pit was an evening ritual along with s'mores!

Absolutely perfect stay

This home was easily the best temporary rental anyone in my party had ever experienced and it was perfect for what we wanted: a spacious and comfortable spot out of the city to enjoy nature and a relaxed, fun time with family. The house was comfortable and very well stocked with everything we needed. The property itself is nestled away in the trees, the balcony view is beautiful, even when it was raining the huge windows made the house a lovely place to be. It was easy to check in, instructions were clear and the owner gave us helpful notes about hiking/restaurants/fun stuff near by. I hope we can return to this house one day.

Beautiful

My daughter was getting married not far from this location and we couldn’t have been happier with our stay. Amelia is amazing. She was in contact with us and so helpful. She went out of her way to find a location for a brunch the next day which was wonderful. I recommend this house for anyone who’s looking for something homey and comfortable.

Fantastic Catskill getaway

This home is in a quiet, private area with plenty of room for 4 couples. Everyone enjoyed the outside deck which had amazing views. The living/dining/kitchen area was large enough for all to gather, play games, hang out and enjoy each other's company. The layout of the home is awesome; equipped with everything we needed. The owner was quick to respond and very accommodating to our large group's needs. I would highly recommend this property if you're looking for a classic, spacious, Catskill mountain home!!

Beautiful home with a sense of private seclusion and convenience of nearby Hudson

We had an amazing stay over NYE. The house was beautiful and clean, and laid out in such a way that allows for a group to congregate and still have areas of escape to not feel on top of one another. Its long private drive and views into the woods give it a sense of remoteness, but it has the convenience of a supermarket 10 minutes away and Hudson 20 minutes away. Amelia's attentiveness was outstanding: she got a plumber out to fix a small problem within an hour on New Years Eve. It's a perfect retreat.

Truly perfect!

This place was a perfect getaway. We spent about 10 days here and were very sad to leave. The house is outstanding: gorgeous views, fall colors, plenty of space, perfectly stocked kitchen, comfortable beds and seating areas, lovely sunset and excellent host. Truly perfect. We were here as a couple, but also had guests for a few days. It worked well in both instances. The surrounding area is full of stuff to do and everything you need isn't far away including supermarket and farm stands. Note that you must go up stairs for most of the house, just in case there are any mobility issues in your party.

Gorgeous

You know how property pictures look so inviting... until you show up -- and are disappointed? Fear not: this property wows and exceeds expectations. While talking to others, it was difficult to refrain from gazing out the huge picturesque windows overlooking the Catskill mountains. The roomy house is situated near the top of the treeline, quite private, and stunning. And it doesn't stop there: the owner has thoughtfully provided all one needs for meals, although we only ate breakfasts there, but the coffee grinder was much appreciated. Warm, comfy and we'd love to return. Owner response excellent.

What a gem in the mountains!

I've been hesitant to write a raving review because I want to keep this house a secret - it is truly amazing! We spent a relaxing long snowy weekend for my birthday, just my wife and 5 year old son. Everything was exactly as stated. In fact the it was even more amazing in the real life than the pictures convey. Fully stocked and cozy, we didn't want to leave. If you must venture out for food, the West Taghkanic Diner down the hill on the main road was so good. Diner food, but for foodies. To top it off, the host was extremely responsive and even let us check in a little early. We will be back!

Absolutely delightful house and setting. The house is spacious, very clean and well-equipped.

We’ve rented many places for vacation stays, and this place was without question our best experience yet. The spacious, very clean and well-equipped house comfortably accommodated three generations of family, and also worked well when our group numbered four or two. Large and comfortably furnished two-floor open living room. Great views and sunsets from ample deck overlooking the Catskills. Separate small cabin and sitting area on ridge in the woods was great fun for grandkids. Secluded and quiet, yet easily accessible to grocery-shopping, excellent swimming at Lake Taghkanic State Park, and the myriad attractions of mid-Hudson Valley. The HomeAway listing photos give an accurate sense of what the house is like, and we concur with other renters’ enthusiastic reviews. The owner was exceptionally responsive and assured that we had a splendid time.

Observe nature from the comfort of this thoughtful home

There are beautiful views from the windows and deck of this lovely home that look out onto a peaceful landscape. The sounds of birds, and the occasional glimpse of young deer scampering by add to the feeling of tranquility - a very soothing location with easy access to nearby state parks, and the city of Hudson, which has many choices for dining. Inside, the house is extremely comfortable. The great room is wonderful for gathering, and watching a summer shower, the kitchen is well-appointed with plenty of cookware and utensils. The primary bedroom is on the top level, en-suite, and a loft area with desk for working. Main floor bedrooms are a good size. The ground floor is like having a separate apartment available, with a bathroom and a den (including a sofa bed if needed). Wifi and air conditioning. Directions were clear, labels on switches in the house are very helpful, and suggestions for nearby attractions useful - we are grateful for the host's thoughtful planning in preparing her home for guests. My family and I had a lovely stay, and recommend the property whole-heartedly.

About the host

Hosted by Amelia

Host profile image
I live in NYC and love to escape upstate to the Hudson Valley. It is a beautiful area, and the perfect distance to make weekend getaways from the city.

Why they chose this property

The Hudson Valley is simply spectacular. Close to NYC, but scenic and rural, the towns in the area all have their own unique charm, which allows an escape from the large, chains stores now ubiquitous in NYC. It is one of my favorite areas to explore and relax. There is always a new experience awaiting.

What makes this property unique

The house is located about 5 minutes from Lake Taghkanic state park, which has 2 beaches (one with a concession stand) and great hiking trails, one of which circles the lake for about six miles. Boating and kayaking can also be done on the lake.

15 minutes from the house is the city of Hudson, which has dozens of antique shops, bookstores, art galleries, cafes & restaurants, and a couple of movie theatres. Warren street is the highlight.

Also about 15 minutes away is Frederic Church's estate, Olana, which has beautiful views of the Hudson and the Catskills, gardens, and a museum of his home.

Also about 15 minutes away in Ghent, NY, is the Fields Sculpture Park at the OMI International Arts Center with internationally recognized contemporary sculpture thoughtfully curated over 100 acres of farmland.

About 20-25 minutes away are Red Hook and Tivoli, which both have local shops and restaurants, and are close to Bard College, where the Fisher Performing Arts Center is located. 25 minutes away is Rhinebeck (5 minutes past Red Hook on Route 9), which has excellent restaurants, shops, a farmer's market on Saturdays, as well as local artists, and an art house movie theatre.

Directly across the river are Catskill, and the Catskill mountains with incredible hiking trails, and Woodstock.

If you like classical music, Tanglewood, the summer venue for the Boston Symphony Orchestra is about 40 miles away. It is a favorite for the cheap lawn tickets to outdoor concerts on summer nights. Well worth the drive.
