About this property

Mountain Magic in the Heart of Wine Country!

This exquisite mountain house gives your family plenty of room to spread out with its 2 stories, children's play area, and baths. The upstairs bath features a soaking tub and separate shower. Morning mountain views off the balcony are perfect accompaniments for coffee and conversation. Beds have memory foam mattresses. Five different wineries are located within a 10 mile radius, plus a pick-your-own muscadine farm and a meadery.
Kayaking, trout fishing, hiking, and panning for gold are all great activities for vacationers around Dahlonega.
During spring, the house is surrounded by pink mountain laurel blooming in the woods off the deck. Then, hikes are delightful, as wildflowers on the nearby Appalachian trail burst into bloom. Mountain streams gurgle, but the water is icy, so if you plan to wade, wear your swim shoes or get frosty toes.
Summer is lazy in the mountains, but not so lazy that you will eschew antiquing at the many shops in Dahlonega and Helen. And book a wine tour! The wineries are all so compelling. Fish at a nearby Chestatee fishing hole. But don’t forget the GA fishing license. Guests looking for adventure can book kyacking trips on the Chestatee River or take it easy tubing. Dahlonega and Helen are both destinations for those activities.
Fall is resplendent with color as the trees burnish their leaves in red and gold. Each twist in the road brings a visual delight, each more enchanting than the last.
And you must not forget to plan your trip to the apple houses. Throughout North Georgia, apples can be bought at pick your own orchards. Dahlonega has many within a few hours' drive.
Winter at Keith's Retreat is also a joy, with holiday merriment around the fireplace. The woodburning stove provides lots of warmth, and wood on the porch keeps it stoked. Decorations of greenery and red ribbons create a cheerful ambiance during Christmas, and as winter progresses, the decor shifts to other moods, Valentines, for instance, or winter wonderland. No worries about the cold, either. The house has a full house generator, in case the electricity gets cut off in an ice storm.

Dahlonega stay

Property was great and if your going to the wineries or distillery then it’s very close, however we wanted to stay a little closer to downtown Dahlonega but still not a bad drive it was only 15 min

Great place to air b and b

We loved the house. It is about 25 min away from Dahlonega, which is a must see. They have several wineries close by which are lovely and some that are not too far away as well. The house was cozy comfy. We fit a family of six perfectly. Kitchen could be stocked with few more essentials but I brought my own nice fry pan, baking sheet for biscuits and paper plates and cups, paper towels, toilet paper, etc. If your looking for a great place to stay this is a must!

Major let-down

To start, this was listed as "entire home" but it was not. There were people living in the basement level who made our stay very uncomfortable. Beyond that, there was trash in trash cans, inside and outside, blood on the bottom of a toilet seat, and no dishwasher soap or dish towels. I'm not one to leave poor reviews, and we have stayed in some 5-star places, but this experience was not one. Communication with the hostess was great, no doubt. However, when I pointed out the falseness of the listing being "entire home," I did not even get an apology or any acknowledgement of that very misleading detail. With that said, she did refund a small amount of our expense, but only because we left one day sooner than we had planned. Not how I would have chosen to spend our time away at Christmas. I do intend to pursue further refund or credit through VRBO. Had the listing been clear that it was a multi-family house with permanent tenants downstairs, we would not have booked. First bad experience using this platform for travel arrangements.

About the host

Hosted by Elizabeth Keith

Host profile image
Liz operates Keith Retreat in the Appalachian foothills of Lumpkin County. Her love of the scenic vistas and crafty little villages inspired her to spend more time in Dahlonega, which is the piece de resistance of mountain villages.

Why they chose this property

When Liz first saw Keith Retreat, it was in May when massive blossoms of mountain laurel could be viewed from the deck. The tantalizing smell hooked her. Her active family loves visiting where they can tramp on the many trails and run the many races that are held in the area. Plus, after the races, there is always relaxing with local wines. Yep. there are 5 wineries near-by that are available to tour. Weddings are popular for guests, too. Brides and their bridal parties find that Keith Retreat is perfect for their close proximity to the celebrations. And, of course, those who love festivals delight in Keith Retreat since it is located between Dahlonega and Helen, perfect for visits to two of the most popular towns in the Georgia mountains.

What makes this property unique

Liz and her team work hard to give good value for their guests' money. They provide many free amenities such as a washer and dryer and extra parking.
