Amazing cabin close to beautiful hiking trails

We had a lovely stay at Puck's lodge. The cabin is very homey and we had everything we needed to enjoy our stay. It is just a short walk to Puck's Glen, an amazing short walk along a beautiful burn. We also did a few days trips during our stay, to Otter Ferry, Tighnabruich and Campbeltown. All in in, it was a lovely vacation in a very enchanting party of Scotland!

Comfortable and relax place to stay.

Shelagh and Bob were great hostess and very helpful from the beginning and we appreciated all the help provided. The lodge was cosy and very comfortable. The place was very clean and full equipped, specially the kitchen and lots of warm rugs for the nights!. The double bed was so good and we slept like rocks! Amazing walks and landscapes were we were. Specially Puck’s Glenn was absolutely fantastic and very near to us as we have small children they enjoyed the walks and water falls around the area. Thank you!. The lodge is very well located to go different places. We went to Stirling, Glasgow, Loch Eck and Firking Point.

lodge was well equipped and comfortable , lighting was somewhat dim , found shower curtain needed changed better with glass panel as curtain got sucked in with steam and an extractor fan in bathroom would be better than window,I found dust on top of headboard in double room.

PUCKS LODGE

Shelagh and Bob were really helpful in advance of the holiday, supplying information about the local area. I was also reassured that if COVID upset our plans it would be possible to postpone the trip,( as well as cancellation at pretty short notice) The lodge is warm and spacious, with extras that I didn't expect like heated towel rain and tumble drier. The bedrooms were very comfortable and there was lots of light with the big windows. There is a well equipped kitchen and good shower over the bath. The site is very quiet with lots of walks on the doorstep. Inveraray and the Isle of Bute are easy day trips Just a shame the squirrels didn't decide to drop in !!

A great location

The lodge is perfectly situated in woodland and the lodges are spaced well apart. The lodge was excellent with a very large living room and spacious dining kitchen in addition to 3 spacious bedrooms. The huge widows give great views out. A resident heron, loads of red squirrels and deer in the morning made for a pleasant distraction. Loch Eck and the botanical gardens are right on the doorstep and you are within short driving distance from loads of good walking. This lodge would be great for families, couples or groups and was very dog friendly by the look of it.

Disliked: Cleanliness

The lovation was lovely but very limited things to do, we drove around alot trying to find days out

The property is lovely decorated and homely feel, beds were really comfy but the cleanliness was very poor, we appreciate it is dog friendly but to be covered in other dogs hair isn't great, when we didn't bring a dog. Also check tea pots when cleaning too. I am not sure where the smell comes from but maybe the carpets could do with a deep clean. Sorry for the negative comments i hate to be negative but felt I had to say something.

About the host

Hosted by Abigail Daly

Host profile image
I moved to Strone in 2015 having fallen in love with the area on my many stays at Ruskin Lodge North. I am a graphic designer and editor, working with charities and tourism organisations. We are an ethical self-catering business. The lodges were purpose-built as holiday homes and were only granted planning permission on the grounds that they couldn't be used to live in year-round. This means we're not taking a home away from the local long-term rental or housing market - a big issue for communities in Argyll.

Why they chose this property

Me and my partner bought Ruskin Lodge North in 2013 after discovering the area on a day trip from Glasgow where we were living at the time, and moved here in 2015. Cowal is a beautiful and relatively undiscovered part of Scotland and there are so many different kinds of landscapes - lush ancient forest, dramatic rugged mountains, a gorgeous coastline and bubbling rivers. There is a vibrant creative community and lots of events and activities to enjoy, led by knowledgeable, skilled local residents. We bought Ruskin Lodge South (formerly known as Puck's Lodge) in 2021 and have been welcoming guests since 2022 following its redecoration and refurbishment.

What makes this property unique

The lodges are redecorated and refurbished and offer comfortable accommodation for friends, families and couples alike. Ruskin Lodge North and South can be booked together so that larger groups can be accommodated.
