About this property

Secluded Mountaintop Retreat in the Heart of the Berkshires

This secluded 6 acre property is just a 3 minute drive to the village of West Stockbridge. The house is set back from the main road at the end of a private .25 mile driveway that winds through a bird sanctuary, and uphill to the house. The house looks west to a beautiful Berkshires mountain crest.

This light-filled house has a spacious 3,200 sq ft of living space spread out over two floors. The ground floor has a large living room with wood burning fireplace, formal dining area, kitchen, breakfast nook, master bedroom suite, and powder room.

The second floor has two bedrooms, each with its own bathroom, and an open hallway with a cozy landing overlooking the front of the house. One of these two bedrooms is over 400 sq ft and has its own wood burning fireplace.

There is a basement den and washer/dryer, and front and back patios with plenty of seating and a grill.

Eclectic antique furnishings throughout the house make this a unique stay.

The house is a 3 minute drive from West Stockbridge village, and 12 minutes to Tanglewood Music Center.

Summer of 2024

This large, charming house is an ideal property to rent and is located on a hill overlooking a beautiful view. It has a wonderful new kitchen with all the accoutrements necessary to cook ( if you desire) Our host Johan was always available to assist us R and S

Tanglewood Weekend

We had a great weekend and the house suited our needs well. My dad is having some temporary mobility issues, so the steps up to the house were tough for him, but not impossible. The house is pretty and spacious; the beds are comfortable and the window a/c units were more than enough - we really only needed the fan setting. The kitchen is well equipped, though could have been a bit cleaner - same for the bathrooms (drain-o in our bathroom sink would’ve been an easy fix). One note that other guests have made is the bugs - there were crickets, moths, and a couple other critters inside. We were able to get rid of most, but a little more attention to cleaning and keeping bugs out would go a very long way. Johan was a gracious and responsive host, and I am sure that the house will continue to be a fun destination for guests enjoying the Berkshires.

A great disappointment

House has many lovely furnishings, but the owner was not prepared for a 6 week visit. He had to bring in supplies after we arrived. He needed to replace all 4 toilets, as they were rusted and/or improperly sized. The house was not well cleaned, with bugs, spiders, cobwebs throughout. House is not physically well maintained at all (photos available upon request). Cracked paint, rotted wood on window sills and in other key areas of the house, missing or nonfunctioning light bulbs and fixtures. Non-working bath tub, filthy, disgusting barbecue grill until removed and cleaned, inoperable back door and ceiling fan that didn't work in one of the bedrooms. House is infested with bugs, flying and crawling. Owner finally sent exterminator after 4.5 weeks, who was appalled at the condition of the home. Owner couldn't answer basic questions about operation of t.v., didn't even know the Roku PIN. Nice property, but outdoor furniture was decrepid, covered in weeds and vines, useless. It took over a month to get someone out to even cut the grass so we could be outside. Owner tried to be accomodating, but he often fell short of what he promised. Very disapointing, especially given the substantial amount of money we paid!

Great location and spacious home

Enjoyed renting this property, very private location and plenty of space. Lovely touches such as free firewood and wine for guests. Wonderful place to stay near Stockbridge.

Thank you for a relaxing visit

We very much enjoyed our stay! We admired the charming and unique furnishings, and we thought they made the house more interesting and memorable. The home itself is very large and allowed the 5 of us to spread out and have quiet time on our own. Wifi worked great. I believe the owner is working on making improvements re: issues raised in the other guests' reviews, which were minor to us. The location is quiet/secluded and very convenient for visiting the attractions in Stockbridge/Lenox/Great Barrington, and Tanglewood. We hope to come back to stay again.

Excellent

This property was perfect for us 3 middle aged couples . We each had our own bathrooms and bedrooms. Everything in the Berkshires was a short drive away. We went a concert at Tanglewood in Lenox, MA and was 11 minutes away! The house was clean, easy access, everything you need in a well supplied kitchen. The owner was easy to reach, and he responded quickly. Would definitely stay here again.

Tanglewood getaway

The property was a very nice location. However not a good stay for anybody with mobility issues as stairs are steep with limited hand rails. I will not repeat previous critiques but I must say that we did agree with most. A very quiet get away. Could be tweaked more to make it a better VRBO. ..but overall a nice stay

Spacious and comfortable home

I noted that some other reviews were critical of the furnishings but this is a house with a number of antique pieces and most are lovely and make good use of the spaces. Having 3 and 1/2 baths was especially great since there were 4 of us and we could all get ready without bothering each other. The kitchen was was equipped and we enjoyed having breakfasts on the front deck. The water pressure upstairs was pretty low which we assumed is because house is on well water? The beds were all super comfortable. And the linens were very nice and soft. Overall the house met all expectations!

Big house, lots of space

Furniture, sheets, towels dated, but useable. At least ten bags of trash in garage, one leaking when we got there. We added a few bags to it.

Bones of property are awesome. Inside, outside and landscaping need some work. Not a big antique fan. Furniture needs to be replaced. Basement entertainment are was musty. Could not find an instruction book that told us what to do when leaving and where to go to eat and what places to visit. usually I would not write a review but I truly loved the house but believe it could be so much better. I rate it a 4 but it could easily be a 5.

Peaceful Getaway

Our group of 6 had a very enjoyable experience at this property. We chose to cook in since the kitchen had the necessary tools we needed to prepare the food we brought. There was plenty of room and privacy when needed. It was very peaceful which is what our group needed. Like any home, it is need of some minor repairs/paint and some of the upholstered furniture is a little worn. However, the wood antique furniture and figurines were gorgeous and really added to the charm of this home. It was a perfect decision to celebrate my 65th birthday with friends and I'm very pleased with our choice.

this home could be perfect

The home is wonderfully located. Often reviewers may describe the decor as tired but in this case, the owner has intentionally decorated with antique furnishings from couches to pictures to kitchenware so that isn't a criticism. Kitchen is well stocked. the photos are pretty accurate. For such a large home, the kitchen is small but again, that's the way it was built. The 1st fl Master bath has been updated with a glass wall large shower and a jet tub. The owners again, intended to bring the outdoors in by not have opaque shades in the bathroom. While it didn't bother me (view is open to back yard), some might prefer to be able to close the shades. I have mentioned this to the owner and we will see if it is taken to heart. Another small item to satisfy the most people. For a few days, it is way more than adequate. The reason the home was not "perfect" was because the home has window a/c (which work perfectly fine) but they are not well sealed and when we arrived there was an misquito and similar flying insect convention around many of the lights including the bedroom. I have let the owners know and hopefully, this is taken care of. Once we used Raid, throughout the home, there was not a continuing issue. the mattresses and pillows were very comfortable for us (such a particular preference). The owners are doing some upgrades themselves so there were some open wires which again, I hope they take care of capping if nothing else. Easy fix... Loved the front porch where we watched the sun set over the mountain ridge in front of us. At night, milky way shines thru so very little light pollution ( just have to make sure you don't trip the outdoor flood lights. Communication was not perfect using the vrbo app, but when we called, were able to speak with owner who lives close by. There were no prior reviews and I am not sure if the home was recently listed. Pretty confident the owners will fix the couple of items and it will be perfect. The house and grounds are eclectic. For us, that was a positive. Overall, I hope that you do choose this home because it is lovely, secluded, roomy and well located for a great berkshires vacation.
