Amazing Views!!

The GREAT: Ben was an amazing host! He was responsive when we messaged and acted on our requests. The view was amazing, and the house had way more space than I had expected! It was outfitted well with lots of kitchen items, and a nice table for the family to eat dinner at. It's got a HUGE yard, and waterfront access. We had a fire on the beach, and it was bucket list worthy. On our final day, the floating dock was put in, which was fun to fish from (use a spoon lure and you’ll land some schoolies!) Don’t sleep on Linda Fernandez’s Gift Shop. We were able to get some Christmas Stockings that I’ll have for the rest of our life! Some items I wish I had prepared for: THE BUGS! If you want to enjoy the deck at any part of the day, bring a screen net. In July when we were there the mosquitos were miserable. The stairs to the third floor are very steep to the point where we didn't feel comfortable holding an infant and climbing them. Some people called them ladder stairs. The walk from the house to the water was farther than the pictures made it appear, and the 'beach' was beautiful unstable rounded off stones that make it very difficult to walk. We didn't end up swimming from the 'beach' area at all as the ground was too unstable plus slippery rocks felt unsafe to keep our footing while in the water. Bring water shoes and maybe you’ll have success there. With all that said, I would stay there again in a heartbeat. The house was amazing and we’re so thankful that Ben offers it as an option on the quiet side of the island!

Great spot

The house is in a great spot. Nice views and access to quiet side biking. The beach and dock were great, and nice to be close to southeast harbor and Thurston's. Bring bug spray!

Fall on the quiet side of MDI

Beautiful and peaceful location with a sunny deck overlooking the shore. The living spaces were comfy and the kitchen was well appointed. We also enjoyed using the grill on the deck.

Loved it - old farm house charm.

Loved it .. Quiet side of the island and easy to get to hiking trials - beach - ocean. Keep in mind it is an old farmhouse - very steep stairs like in a boat and lower ceiling height. small kitchen not a lot of counter space, so we used the large dining table. The stove - washer dryer all worked great. I hope to come back and rent again. Helpful hint.. With the park being very busy we got up at 6am and arrived at the hiking - beach by 7:15 if we waited until 8pm ... many parking lots would already be full. If you love the outdoors and New England perfect place. If you want "club med" then find and inn.

Perfect place to rest and recharge

Great cute cottage on the water. Comfortable beds. Hot shower. Quaint quiet town. Felt like true Maine if you like quiet instead of the hustle of Bar Harbor. We got to experience MDI and Acadia more than we would have staying closer to the park. It’s a great location to all the sites and things we wanted to do. House was set up to be able to stage gear and backpacks for easy reloading/repacking for your next excursion.

Great Home Away From Home

This property was as described and more. Everything was in good order upon arrival, all we had to do was put away our groceries and relax. The view was mesmerizing and we often found ourselves just staring at the ocean. We love staying on the quiet side of the island as there isn’t the hustle and bustle of the Bar Harbor side. We did enjoy our time in Bar Harbor but it was nice to leave it behind. I can’t think of anything that was missing from this wonderful property. We would most surely stay here again.

So peaceful

Second visit, and the weather was not as great as the first, but enjoyed it nonetheless. We were concerned about the Covid-19 effects in the area, but we found plenty of places to eat and visit. We love this property, and its location. Thanks again for providing such a treasure.

What a view in the paradise of Acadia

Great spot!

The house was perfect for us- a great location on the quiet side of the island. Our family loved the large lawn to the water and seeing stars at night. there are great hikes nearby, but it's easily accessible to the prime hiking areas. House is old (has character!) but in good shape and was clean. Stairs to upstairs were steep but ok for our kid (4). The owner was very helpful and had great recommendations. Wish we could have stayed another week!

Great cottage on the water for families

This was out first trip to MDI and the cottage was perfect for our family of 5. Multiple bedrooms gave us plenty of room and the deck/yard was perfect for the end of the day. Our kids spend hours exploring the rocky beach and searching for sea glass. The cottage was well equipped from the kitchen to the book shelf to the linens and towels. We highly recommend this cottage for a relaxing visit to MDI while still a 30 minute drive to Acadia. The only negative was the floating dock was not in the water this year due to the uncertainty of COVID. This wasn’t a big deal but wasn’t disclosed until 5 days before our arrival.

Peaceful Getaway

We couldn't have chosen a better property for a peaceful getaway. The cottage is old (built in the 1800s), but very well kept and updated. The big sloping yard going to the rocky beach and dock was perfect for our puppies to run and play. The view was spectacular from the deck and all waterside windows. The neighborhood was quiet and the area quaint. The property is located on the "quiet side" of the island, which was great for relaxation. We found pretty much everything we needed and were still close enough to the "other side" to see the whole area. Very close to Acadia Park. Wished we'd brought our kayak. It could have been launched right in our backyard. Maybe next time. This cottage is a gem. Love it.

Great location, great view, great peace and QUIET!

Wonderful place on the quiet side of MDI. Plenty of space for the two of us who had to bring work, plenty of room in the dining room to spread out with our laptops and papers, and still would have been plenty of space for more. Nice deck overlooking the large, sweeping lawn, with fantastic views of the bay. The cottage could use some paint touch-ups , but it was also very comfortable and charming. We slept SO well. We live in the country so we know quiet, but this cottage was SOOO quiet and peaceful. Enjoyed deep sleeps every evening. The location was ideal for folks like us who aren’t used to having neighbors too close, but still close enough to the restaurants and shops in Southwest Harbor, and also close to the West Side Trails of Acadia, most of which have ample parking. Working for a few hours in the morning and then hopping in the car to do a quick 2- or 3-hour hike was not a problem at all. It should be noted that the stairs are very steep, and could be challenging for very small children or anyone with hip or knee issues. Because they could be an issue for anyone with even a minor physical disability I do think the listing should mention this. But for others, the stairs are a good workout for all the hiking in Acadia. And the TV serves the DVR only. There is no broadcast or cable TV service, but movies are provided. The listing does say “TV/DVR for watching movies” but that doesn't seem very clear to me. Not a big deal for us except for when we wanted to watch the football game. But we were able to tune in to our own cable service from our laptops to watch it. Would definitely stay here again.

Great Scenic Location.

We enjoyed the large yard reaching down to the water. Great access for Kayaking even at low tide. Our Yorkies had alot of space to run. WiFi was fine. Having a TV would have been nice, but I did read 3 books which was a plus. All in All, just fine. Jim Robinson

Relaxing Week On The Coast

The property was nice, the house was peaceful and well kept. I enjoyed staying on this side of the island due to how peaceful it was and I highly recommend this property for anyone that is looking for a peaceful stay on Mount Desert Island. If you want to visit Bar Harbor, it's only about a 30 minute drive. I enjoyed my stay and actually proposed to my girlfriend during the stay at Otter Cliffs.

Had a great time! Perfect for our family of 5 and our pup!

On the quiet side of the island, this 4 bedroom cabin is a gem. We enjoyed the gorgeous view of Frenchman’s Bay, access to the water, use of the outdoor grill and the enormous, rolling lawn. It was really perfect for us! Kids played badminton and soccer, the pup played a lot of fetch, and we spent every day in and around Acadia - whale watching, climbing, sailing, riding in a horse drawn carriage and hiking Cadillac Mountain. Two notes: 1) there’s only one bathroom which was fine for us, but worth noting. 2) bug spray is a must during the summer mosquito season!

Basic cottage for families and pets

This summer holiday cottage is rustic, and that will be the source of its charm for those who enjoy it. With five twin beds, two double beds, and one bathroom, this property is designed for families looking for simple accommodations on the quiet side of the island. Its steep staircase will be a concern for those with mobility issues or young children. Furnishings are worn, but the basics are provided. Expect no "extras" (no wifi; second floor overhead lighting is from bare bulbs on the ceiling; linens and towels have seen better days). Could benefit from some TLC and a deep clean to bring things up to snuff. Be sure to contact owner well in advance to get clear instructions on how to find the cottage. We had to rely on kind neighbors to locate it.

Great little place! Especially for pets!

We spent a week here and it was really a lovely time. The views can't be beat, and having a dog, it's hard to find rental properties that are pet friendly. This one was not only pet friendly but ideal for dogs! Tons of space for them to run around! There was also plenty of space for us to move around inside and have guests come to visit. The shared space with the other rental properties on the land wasn't a huge issue, but we did kind of feel like we were imposing on their space when going down to the doc/beach area. Still, there were lots of things close by and only about 1/2 hour to Bar Harbor and parts of Acadia. Definitely would recommend it for families with pets!

Excellent, beautiful and quiet location, clean house

This cottage was perfect for what we were looking for this summer. A quiet house in a beautiful waterfront location, close enough to places to visit yet away from the crowds of Acadia. After a day or hiking or siteseeing our family loved coming home to such a clean and pretty spot on the ocean. Our dog loved the large yard which rolls down to the sea. Our kids liked looking for lucky rocks on the beach and putting feet into the water off the dock. It was too cold for swimming but there are lakes for that. The other 2 rentals on the property weren't an issue at all. We joined them for a relaxing beach bonfire one night and all were in awe of the stargazing!! All in all, a wonderful place to get away which we would love to repeat next year.

What makes this property unique

Lovely house on beautiful shorefront property on Western side of MDI. This 5 acre property has gently sloping fields to a wonderful cobblestone beach with private deep water granite pier and dock. The first floor has a kitchen, bathroom, dining room living room, office and reading parlor. The upstairs has 3 bedrooms. The master has a double futon and the 2 smaller bedrooms have each have 2 twin beds. A new kitchen has just been installed.
The beach is perfect for private lobster bakes, shelling and searching for sea glass or simply enjoying the incredible sunsets. The 150' pier with 24' floating dock will accommodate your boating activities along with a mooring suitable for a 50' vessel. The area is ideally suited for kayaking and sailing in the protected reaches of Blue Hill Bay.
The Southwestern exposure provides incredible views towards Swans Island and the outer reaches of Blue Hill Bay.
The villages of Bass Harbor and Bernard are approximately 1 mile away. There's great hiking along the shore or in the nearby National Park. An easy walk to the nearby bus stop provides free bus service throughout the island. The location is truly amazing and must be seen to be appreciated.
