Whistlestop house
TRAIN is LOUD!!! It runs all the time. If you’re a heavy sleeper it’s for you. The house was accommodating to 10 ten with a few extra! We had everything we needed and it was a fun trip!
Overall, it was a very nice stay. I think the owner might want to check the compressor on the refrigerator in the big kitchen. Every time it kicked on, it sounded like a train coming through...LMAO!!
Host was very accomodating. House was exactly as described. Well stocked with necessities. Close to HMT trails. Close to gas and a convenience store. Plenty of parking area for 5 trucks and trailers and 6 buggies and a 4 wheeler. Trains run frequently....just take some earplugs.🤣

Unfortunate area
I had no complaints with the property owner. The issues we had were mild for us but could really bother others. The house is an old mountain house, so there are certain things that make it less luxurious, like bugs and cobwebs, soft floors and the like. The area was very sketchy with possible drug houses and we even heard a gunshot. The house appeared to have been broken into previously based off the damage to one of the locks. It is also directly across from a railroad track so if you are a light sleeper you would not want to stay here.

Spring Stay
Property managers very nice, polite, and responsive. Hot water tank was leaking upon evening arrival, but was replaced next morning. Location was to be desired. No restaurants in the immediate area (even though a few are advertised as open) and huge excruciatingly loud freight train runs directly in front of the house (approx. 50 yds) about every 15 to 60 minutes. It also runs all through the night. I felt like I was in the My Cousin Vinny movie. Be sure to pack noise cancelling headphones to get a decent nights rest. Washer and Dryer are located in super creepy basement that is only accessed from the outside, through a small access door. Plenty of firewood and space in the house. We made the best of the situation once we realized what we were in store for. Although the owners/managers were nice, likely will not stay again.
The house is perfect for a large group of friends. Easy Check in and such a great renter to work with! The price is definitely worth all the parking you have and the location of easy access to pinnacle and ashland area. Also feed the black and brown dog that comes up. He always showed up around breakfast and he always got a treat from us lol. Has a atv washing area. We fit 6 vehicles and trailers on the property. Plus the 8 sxs, dirt bikes, and atvs. Only downside to this property is the trains that come by in the middle of the night, but you get use to it quick. Ways for improvement: add a bunk bed room, change tub to shower downstairs, and the tub to shower upstairs. Heat and air worked great and everyone had their own space to chill and relax. Also has 2 kitchens so we didn't get cramped during dinner cooking!!!! Loved it
We absolutely loved the place! Could use a deep clean but it was not nasty by any means. The host went above and beyond for us! Close to trail heads and a family dollar and gas. The neighbors dog came over every day for a snack and he was so sweet! Great parking and lots of space! We had tons of room! Hotest water ever! If you are a light sleeper the train will wake you up.
Karen was wonderful in preparing us for the stay and while we were there she reached out to us to make sure everything was good. The house is located well for the trails. Can’t say a single negative thing about her property. Everything was clean and welcoming. Would definitely recommend it.
We had a blast and really appreciated the help with our stay would stay again

About the host
Hosted by Karen Ann Mays
Local owner, who loves the trails. A friend and I found this property and loved the idea of this old duplex and fixing it up for fun on the trails. I personally love to ride the trails and grew up riding mostly outlaw trails. Barb on the other hand is a nature lover and learning the trails. Its been fun fixing this old house up and making it nice again. We are working on new ideas and more amenities, so stay tuned!
Why they chose this property
Northfork known for its trains and thangs!!! This house was built in the 20's, it is huge with just about 3000 sq. ft. Its been fun fixing this old house up and making it nice again. Did I mention it is right on the Elkhorn for a great fishing experience and close to the rails if you enjoy the whistle of the trains. And let me not forget HUNTING, got some state records right here! Right in between 2 Hatfield Mccoy trails. Park your hauler and ride!! Plenty of parking available.
What makes this property unique
CAN ACCOMODATE GROUPS UP TO 20 maybe a couple of extras we can squeeze in if you don't mind a cot. We got room for ya, "we will hang you on a nail".
