THE SPACE:
The Cottage at Chappell Hill faces Main Street and contains 800 square feet of authentic country charm. Professionally decorated by "The Irish Lady", it is the epitome of warmth and is filled with many unique pieces and antiques. The town of Chappell Hill is a tiny, Hallmark-type town in Washington County (the birthplace of Texas) and is located only 8 miles east of Brenham.

Formerly owned by Kiki Neumann, a Houston-based Folk Artist, the cottage is a magical place that has touched the hearts of so many people. It has been known as the "Healing House" for several decades. Many guests return time and time again to rejuvenate their minds, re-prioritize their lives, mend their hearts, and/or search and soothe their souls.

You’ll be taken back to a simpler time where you'll relax in early-American, 19th century luxury - just as the European settlers experienced. Enjoy the splendor of The Cottage's original features: Cypress siding, shiplap walls, wood door knobs, high ceilings with pressed tin ceiling tiles,Victorian sash windows, stained glass door from England, Willkommen sign from Germany.

This is more than just a place to stay; it's an invitation to experience the true essence of this one-of-a-kind historic property surrounded by God's beautiful creations such as spectacular sunsets, brightly shining stars, whirling breezes, wild grapes and garlic, native plants, plus wildlife: Deer, fox, armadillos, skunks, etc. Plus Pecan, Oak, and Bois d'Arc trees, wild grape vines, wild garlic, and native plants abound.

Come and experience the charm of the country in tiny Chappell Hill, a historic town with a rich history. Sit for a spell in the front porch rocking chairs, inhale the country breezes, view the wildlife, spot an eagle, hear the birds songs.

December Stay

The property was a quaint little cottage that was decorated with an antique feel. Everything was as advertised and when our stay in early November has to be rescheduled due to multiple emergencies, the host quickly responded to my request to reschedule for December. The only issue was the house was a bit drafty during the cold temperatures. I would definitely recommend a friend to stay here.

Well appointed little cottage

This was a terrific little get away spot! It felt like I was a world away from hectic everyday life, but really was just about 30 minutes from my home in Cypress. The rental is well done with lots of little details that helped me feel at home. Check in and check out were super easy! This was a perfect location for me to get away for a day or two.

Perfect place for weekend getaway!

We booked this nice little home in Chapel Hill for the weekend to attend the George Strait concert at Kyle field. It was the perfect place, not too far to drive to College Station and far enough to be out of the crowded city. If that's what you like, then this is the place. There are a couple nice restaurants just a mile or so from the house and the food was great. Rechelle, the host, was very friendly and communicated everything we needed to know well ahead of our arrival. We had a very pleasant experience. Thank you Rechelle!

Perfect retreat from the city

This cabin will take you back in time. Everything about the cabin and property was beautiful. It is located so close to the historic downtown and only a two hour drive from our home in Houston. The perfect getaway! We took our dog and he loved the grounds and we didn’t have to worry about anything because the yard is perfectly secure with a fence. The home had everything and I mean everything you could possibly need. They have definitely thought of everything when putting this place together for renting. The host was very nice and great communication. We will definitely be back.

Quaint Cozy Cottage

This was our second stay. We've fallen in love with this place. There is something magical and peacefilled here. My favorite is sitting on the deck or porch having delicious coffee provided and reading a book early morning listening to the birds. Occasionally we see deer. Our dog loves the yard, porch and deck as well. It has all the amenities needed and much more. The location was great for our needs. The owner is quick to respond and very pleasant to work with. We hope to return.

Love this place!

2nd time staying in 4 months. The property is just perfect for our needs and the host is so nice. The refrigerator is a little small but wasn't an issue for us especially with 2 good places to eat right down the road. This is a truly dog-friendly place and our pup enjoyed the fenced in front yard.

The perfect weekend!

We loved this cottage in cute & charming Chappell Hill. Our dogs loved the yard and the porch, and we did too. All of the amenities were awesome and the bed was so comfy. We really loved our stay in this very clean and comfy weekend getaway. Shopping and stores in Brenham are close by but far enough to feel like you're in the country - which you are! Being there during bluebonnet season was also a plus. :) We hope to return!

Charming Cozy Country Cottage

We were so impressed by this very charming Texas cottage. It is decorated so adorably cozy. Everywhere you turn it is filled with well thought out detail and amenities to make our stay comfortable. We loved sitting on the porch watching our dogs play in the fenced yard. I loved sitting on the deck early morning listening to the birds, watching for deer and having a cup of coffee or tea from the exceptionally well stocked adorable country kitchen. At night with the tiny twinkling lights in the yard and on the house it feels magical and romantic sitting on the porch. The host was always quick and pleasant to respond to my questions. It was a great location for us as we visited friends who live between Brenham and Bellville. Washington on the Brazos is just down the country road. Chappell Hill has some quaint shops, historic churches and nice restaurants. We travel often, have stayed in a variety of places, and must say we thoroughly enjoyed this cottage and would love to go back someday!

My German ancestors settled in this county in the 1800s. As a Houstonian, I longed for a country cottage near my German roots. After years of searching, I finally found it. It was a blessing! I love sharing the cottage with others so they can create new memories, experience the beauty, explore the sites, and learn about the local history. My German ancestors are buried in Brenham.

Fun fact: Abraham Lincoln is my 5th cousin 5x removed :)

Why they chose this property

Chappell Hill is known for its historic architecture, rich cultural heritage, the annual Bluebonnet Festival in Spring and Scarecrow Festival in the Fall. Founded in 1847, it's located in Washington County, which is in Stephen F. Austin's original colony. He is known as the "Father of Texas" and played a significant role in the colonization of Texas by bringing the first group of American settlers to the region in 1821. He was appointed by the Mexican government as an empresario (land agent) to bring 300 families to settle in Texas. Most of the German immigrants who settled in Washington County were primarily farmers and craftsmen. They were attracted to the area by the fertile soil and the promise of land ownership. They brought with them their language, culture, and traditions and established their own communities, churches, and schools that taught in the German language. They also introduced new crops to the area, such as grapes and peaches, which helped to diversify the local agriculture. The birthplace of Texas is considered to be Washington-on-the-Brazos. It was here that delegates from across Texas met in 1836 to sign the Texas Declaration of Independence, officially declaring Texas as a separate republic from Mexico. This event paved the way for the Texas Revolution, a critical moment in Texas history. There are several historical sites and museums that commemorate this important event in Texas history, including the Washington-on-the-Brazos State Historic Site and the Star of the Republic Museum.
