About this property

3500sf Family Home with View, Near Palisades/Squaw Valley

Wonderful Architect designed home majestically located in a private mountain setting adjacent to National Forest with no other homes in sight. The main living level has a huge great room with a 26 foot high cathedral ceiling, large stone fireplace, contemporary kitchen with stainless steel appliances, 6-burner Thermador range, granite counters, and an awesome view of Sawtooth Ridge. There is also a south facing deck with waterfall. The master bedroom wing has a large bedroom with queen size bed and bathroom with double sink, soaking tub and shower. There is also a laundry room and home office on this wing. Upstairs off the loft are a bathroom and three bedrooms with queen size beds. Enjoy the huge recreation room downstairs, with TV/VCR, sofa, ping-pong table, poker table, full bath, twin bed and bunk bed alcove. There are beds for 11, but there is also a pull out mattress under the twin bed and a futon under the bunk bed that may be used. The Placer County limit of 12 people does not include those under 16 years of age.

Other notes:

Horse shoes and corn hole are available for outdoor play during warm weather months.

As of July 2022, we have a new internet provider that does not require a satellite, so we now have excellent internet service that also allows streaming movies.

4WD or AWD with vehicles with good tires are required during winter months, even when chains are not required on the main roads, due to potentially icy driveway conditions.

Placer County short term rental regulations no longer allow use of the barbecue due to fire danger, sorry.

Great clean place to stay
We were 3 families staying for a long weekend with kids from 4-16. The property was clean really nice. We were able to cook dinner 2 nights and Palisades was very close. The kids loved staying in the rec room where there were a lot of activities for them in there. We would stay here again.

Great house for a large group!
To start, communication with the owner was fantastic. We were so happy to have so much information and the available to ask any questions.The house is cozy, yet very roomy. The main room has awesome high ceiling adding to the feeling of space. The kitchen was very well equipped and large enough for use by multiple helpers. We had small children included in our party and they loved the house, one said she wanted to stay instead of going home! So sweet!

Very convenient and great experience
Overall, had a great stay at this property. We are a family of 11 folks and had an excellent time during thanksgiving. Check in process was easy, good area to walk the pets out and lots of beds for folks to sleep comfortably. Would luv to rent again in the future.

Great Home for Family and close to Palisades.
We have 3 children under 12 and they loved the house. It is spacious. They loved the game room. We wanted to take our kids snowboarding for the first time and it was a 5 minutes drive to Palisades. The directions where great, the host has excellent communication. We would love to come back. We highly recommend!

Snow Globe with my Family
The house is such a wonderful location especially if you're going to Palisades. It's the perfect combo of feeling secluded in the woods and being very close to restaurants and the freeway. It's great for a large group. We loved that we could bring our dog. We had everything we needed and a lot of space. My favorite feature of the house is the big beautiful living room window. It was snowing so it was like we were staying in a snow globe.

Great getaway off the beaten path
Large enough for our extended family and very private! Be aware that you may need 4WD to make it up the driveway depending on the weather. The cabin is very well equipped. The internet service can be spotty, but there is TV service.

Tahoe trip
The home is in a very good location and is 5 min away from Palisades Tahoe village and ski resort. We were a big group of 7 adults, 3 kids and a dog. The home was very comfortable for such a big group, with a lot of space for the kids to run around and play. The basement is very convenient for kids to play and make as much noise as they want. It wouldn’t bother us in the main floor or upstairs where all the bedrooms are. Overall the stay was very good and we’d love to book this place again in the future.

Large house in a great location
We enjoyed our stay! The house was large, clean, and well-stocked. The only downside was that we had issues with the internet, and there is little to no cell service in the house. This may not be an issue for many vacationers, but some in our group were planning to work remotely and were unable to. Other than that, the house was great!

Perfect house for a group of 12
Kids really enjoy the downstair basement with lots of privacy. The WiFi is really bad we can’t even use our cellular data so don’t think about using them at all, which maybe good for your eyes and mind. Supermarket is just 10 minutes drive so everything is convenient. The house has 4 stories so lots of stairs. Owner are super responsive and nice, I wish I could give him 8 stars out of 5!

Beautiful, Huge, Secluded home
My family and I rented this lovely home to celebrate my birthday on the 4th of July. Lake Tahoe was packed but we were really really thankful to return to the beauty and solitude of this place after fighting traffic and long lines at Lake Tahoe. The kitchen is well-equipped and roomy. Nice sized bedrooms and plenty of bed linens and towels for all guests. It's very close to Truckee, Truckee River, Donner Lake and Squaw Valley which we all really enjoyed and had never spent time in before. There is a wonderful trail that runs alongside the Truckee River which is right across the road from this house. The only downside to this house is that it has no tv in the living area and the tv in the downstairs recreation room is very old with a fuzzy picture. Also, the internet was not the best. However, this meant we all had to spend more time together, so that was a big plus! All-in-all, I highly recommend this home.

Lake Tahoe family vacation
We stayed at this property for a weeklong family vacation. The property is in a great location between Truckee and Tahoe City. There is an easy 15 minute drive to get to the lake. The surrounding area is extremely beautiful scenery. We enjoyed hanging out at the house and sitting on the front deck enjoying the view and the great weather.

Beautiful Home with a Place for Everyone!
This very lovely and large home is perfect for a large group with multiple ages. The spacious Game room downstairs allows for many activities while the main floor with it's picturesque view is perfect for eating and conversation. Most all of the bedrooms are generous in size! Everything you need is provided for and outdoor activities are a fairly short drive away. We even got to see a beautiful deer outside one of the bedroom windows on our last morning! We would highly recommend this home!

Best VRBO in Tahoe
We rent through VRBO often, and this is one of the best places we’ve ever stayed. The location is perfectly located near Squaw Valley. The house is immaculate, comfortable and updated. All of the amenities you expect are right there (in the kitchen etc.). The host was so attentive. We really appreciated the communication before, during and after our stay. We will definitely rent again.

Perfect place for large groups or family
This house was perfect for my family's getaway weekend. The location is unbelievably convenient to Tahoe City, Squaw Valley, and Truckee. My family was able to enjoy a whole day in Tahoe City without having to worry about the commute back to the house. The house is really large and clean with a lot of sleeping options. The kitchen had a great professional stove/oven, perfect for making a meal at home. The living room and basement with ping pong and poker table were great spaces to hang out with the family, Kevin was really kind and very responsive which made booking and any questions I had very easy!

Lots of room in well appointed home. Many levels which can separate noisy activities ie: games and ping pong from quite pursuits. Also enough space for all to gather for eating and visiting. Some beds not for tall young adults. Great views and stars!

We are architects in San Francisco and designed and built this house in 2006. Raising two boys in the city, we have always known the importance of getting away to the wonderful outdoors that the Tahoe area has to offer. We started the boys skiing, fishing and hiking when they were 2 years old and they still enjoy the same activities today as young adults. With the boys now grown, we have the opportunity to open our home so that other families can partake in the same enjoyment that we have had over the years.

Why they chose this property

This property is conveniently and centrally located. About equidistant to Truckee and Lake Tahoe (Tahoe City), and only 1.5 miles to the Palisades/Squaw Valley entrance, this location is ideal. The house is designed for families or groups and is very spacious. It has been designed in the Tahoe vernacular and built majestically into the hillside to capture the view. Top of the line kitchen appliances and large dining room create a great opportunity for family and friends to dine together.
