About this property

Gorgeous Lakehouse w/Hot Tub, Pool Table, Games & MORE!

ABOUT OUR HOUSE

Gorgeous lakeside house with it’s own access to Shasta Lake through the Doney Creek Arm and beautiful views of the mountains and trees all around. The large wrap around deck has ample seating to enjoy meals, birdwatch in the day and stargaze by night. The home is well furnished with all of the essentials and also lots of games and activities including a pool table & bocce ball. Only a short drive away from Redding, Mt. Shasta, Lassen and so many more beautiful places to explore year round!

THE SPACE

The main family / living room has a cabin-like open to structure design with vaulted ceilings, a gorgeous wood burning fireplace and a large LED Smart TV with lots of DVDs. We have WiFi and you can also access your own Netflix/Hulu/HBOMax accounts if you prefer but we generally recommend disconnecting while at the Lake.

There are 3 bedrooms, 1 bonus room and 1 loft (all with beds as shown in the photos) to accommodate a maximum of 9 adults and 5 children (not including infants under 2 years). There are 2 ensuite full bathrooms and 2 common full bathrooms all hooked up to a new on-demand water heater. The heater may take a few minutes to warm up but works great for simultaneous use.

The kitchen is fully equipped with a 5-burner gas stove, toaster, microwave oven, large fridge, other appliances and all basic kitchen utensils & supplies. There is a fully stocked Tea/Coffee station with teas, cocoa, creamers, sweeteners, fresh coffee beans, a grinder and 3 coffeemaker options to make coffee how you prefer it. We also provide pantry essentials such as salt, pepper, cooking oil, and filtered drinking water (from the Refrigerator or using the Zero Water pitcher.)

And if all that's not enough, you are going to love the bocce ball court and the game room with a pool table, lots of board games, books and puzzles to keep you and your family thoroughly entertained. There's more- we have created a brand new game room in our garage which has a ping pong table, arcade basketball, skeeball, pac-man video game, darts and a sound bar to enjoy some music. We also added a hot tub where you can relax after a long day of fun outdoors.

THE LOCATION

Located only a couple of minutes off Highway 5 our home is incredibly easy to reach any time of the year. At the end of your drive, you will find a beautiful home at the end of the cul-de-sac with its back to nothing but the lake and forest. There is local grocery store, a gas station and a few restaurants nearby so you could easily spend a few days at the house without needing to go very far. But for those who choose to venture out it also serves as a great base to explore nearby gems like Mt Shasta, Lassen National Park, Burney Falls, Dunsmuir and so many other incredible sights.

Come stay at our house and make life-long memories with friends and family experiencing a variety of activities and attractions that you can only find in the Shasta Cascade Region. Whether you're planning to play in the lake, hike a near volcano, fly fish in a world-class rivers or simply spend some time among the woodpeckers and hummingbirds, we can't wait to host you.

The cabin is located at the end of a cul-de-sac with sufficient parking for at least 3-4 cars. You will also have access to the garage where you can use the game room as well as park one car. Please be respectful of some of the personal items that belong to the owners which are in some of the garage cabinets. Part of the garage where you park your car is monitored by a camera as it has doors which also enter the house. This is for everyone's safety but don't worry it does not interfere with your private game room space. While we have tried our best to make the garage safe it is not fully child proof. Please accompany your little ones at all times.

The back yard opens into a forest with a unmarked path leading to the lake. Feel free to walk around on different walking paths or across stepping stones, but be very careful as the ground can get slippery especially when it is wet. You can also use the back gate to walk towards the lake or explore some trails in the vicinity.

The guests do not have access to the storage sheds outside and the pantry closet next to the kitchen.

Otherwise, guests have full access to the house, garage and the yard as well as the open parking spaces outside the house.

OTHER IMPORTANT ITEMS TO NOTE:

~ A maximum of 2 household pets (cats or dogs) are allowed on the premises with an additional fee (per pet)

~ The location is beautiful, quiet and somewhat remote. There is limited cell service but it is better if you have Verizon.

~ We miraculously do have internet but with limited options in our neighborhood, please don’t expect superfast speeds. While its plenty text, chat and get on your favorite social media platforms, you probably want to go easy on streaming all those cat videos. And hey... you came to the lake to get away from it all anyway, right? :)

~ During cool winter days, we recommend setting the house thermostats to 68-72 degrees during the day but much lower at night. All of the sleeping areas and especially the loft can get hot as the warm air rises up. Please remember to close the doors and windows when you are running the Heat or AC and please do also refer to our House Manual for additional details about heating/cooling operation.

~Security camera/recording device — We have five cameras - one at the main entrance, one monitoring the backyard fence and two monitoring each of the sideyards. There is also a camera in garage that monitors the two entries to the home. These are for safety reasons only and do not monitor any private spaces for the guests.

~ There is a small grocery store in Lakehead which has all the essentials you might need. The closest supermarkets like Walmart, Safeway, Sprouts, Trader Joe’s, etc are in Redding about 25 minutes south on I-5. We highly recommend guests pick up groceries and supplies in Redding before driving up to Lakehead.

~ Please respect the wildlife around you. You might spot deers, wild cats, bears and various types of birds. Please give them their space and keep a safe distance. Do not feed the bears or any other wildlife.

~ During winters (Dec-Feb), we put away the barbecue and cover the outdoor furniture to protect it from rain and snow.

~ The house is on a septic tank so please DO NOT FLUSH ANYTHING EXCEPT TOILET PAPER down the toilets. Trust us, you do not want your vacation ruined by a backed-up plumbing system.

~ We put up some light Christmas decor from Thanksgiving through early January. We hope you will enjoy our festive decor around the home.

~Please note that Shasta Lake is a reservoir so lake level can vary greatly changing the views, distance to the water, boat and marina status/access. Please review information on lake level prior to booking.

~Forest fires are common in the summer and fall in Northern California. Depending on wind direction, you may have smoke or haze that come into the area. Avoid the Shasta area this time of the year if you are sensitive to smoke.

Perfect family getaway

Our stay was too short but we had a wonderful time. The short walk down to the lake may be too steep for someone with a disability but we all managed fine. Perfect for a large group!

Lake Shasta

Amazing house with lots of room to roam inside and out. Well stocked with fun things to do. Lake level was low in mid-September so we could not easily access the lake through the trails. Would definitely rent again, perhaps in spring when lake level rises.

Great House with plenty of space

We stayed here for a week with 13 family members ranging from 2-80 years old and it was perfect. The house was lovely, plenty of space for everyone. The contact with the owner was easy and they were lovely to deal with. The kids loved all of the games in the garage and the backyard. The AC worked great upstairs and downstairs as it was 100+ while we were there. We will definitely stay again when we come back to the Lake.

Nice getaway

We really enjoyed our stay here. The house was very clean, stocked with all the essentials (especially games), and easy to settle into. Morning hikes from the backyard down to the Sacramento River were a treat, and it's a quick drive to some of the best fly-fishing spots in California (swimming holes, too, if fishing isn't your thing). Castle Crags is right up the I5, and Lassen makes a great day trip. Highly recommend staying here.

Shasta area Lakehouse

The Lakehouse served the purpose of our sibling reunion nicely. It had ample room for 9 people to sleep. Just be aware there are only four bedrooms - additional sleeping is in the loft with no privacy. The house has everything you need - ample bath towels, fully equipped kitchen and lots to keep you occupied. We enjoyed ping pong, bocce court and hot tub. The lake is full to the brim this year so we enjoyed a view of the water and a nice path down to the lake edge. Overall a pleasant place to stay.

Meg and Shail were awesome hosts, they answered my many questions with quick responses not only before we came but once we were there. I would recomend this home to any one wanting an A+ experience.

Great family vacation at a great house

This was our second year to stay at this house for our yearly family vacation. Both years were great! Last year's review I told Megan that the microwave oven door need to be fix and this year it looked like it was a new microwave. I think that Megan takes great care of this house; the only thing I feel that should be replaced is the ramp leading up to the front door, and that is for their protection because, as we all know, there are sue-crazy people out there. Thank you for another great stay in your home!!

Absolutely wonderful

We have done a family vacation once a year for the past 20 years. Only 10 of us made it to this years trip, but I have to say that each of us felt that this was the best place that we have ever stayed in. The house was clean, had so many extra essentials, fluffy towels, lots of activities for the kids & adults, and it was within walking distance of the lake. Thank you Meg & Shail for checking in to see how we were doing and if we needed anything; that added a personal touch!!

Lake Shasta Family Vacation

Large, well stocked house. Plenty of room for 11 of us to spread out. AC worked well, in spite of temp at 111. Walk down to the lake, currently the lake is great. Great communication with owners. Pool table and game room kept us all busy. Clean and well maintained. Loved it. We’ve been doing a family vacation for 12 years and this h9use was the best yet.

Host profile image
Hello Fellow Travelers!! We are Meg and Shail and we absolutely LOVE traveling. And if there is anything we love almost as much as traveling, it is hosting!! We're beginning our hosting journey with this gorgeous home in Lakehead, Shasta County and can't wait to have and your loved ones visit us.

Why they chose this property

We purchased this home from a wonderful couple that had spent a couple of decades at this home building it and improving it each year with lots of care and love. We fell in love with this home from the moment we saw it because it had just so much character and was built with incredible attention to detail. After living here for a few months, we decided it was time to share the joy we've experienced with the rest of the world and hope to host you all some day soon.

What makes this property unique

The best thing about our home is that it has a little something for just about everybody in your family or group and there's plenty to keep you entertained any time of the year. For the adventurous types, there are all kinds of water activities, fishing, hiking, skiing, caving and more within a short drive from our home. For those that prefer a slower pace, you can enjoy sounds and sights of the forest from our spacious wraparound deck or read one of our many books by the fire. For the younger ones in the group, there's games, puzzles and movies. For the foodies, we have a fully stocked kitchen and a coffee bar. For those with mobility limitations, we've got a flat driveway and a ramp at the entrance. We've truly tried to think of everything but we continue to make improvements all the time hoping that you will visit our home some day soon.
