About this property
A spacious and luxurious cottage in peaceful countryside near Le Mans
Nestled in the peaceful grounds of Château de la Ruche, near Le Mans, this newly restored cottage is the perfect spot for a stay in the countryside.
With two beautiful and spacious bedrooms, each with ensuite bathrooms, a large and airy sitting room with TV and a big farmhouse kitchen, Maurice's House can comfortably welcome four people - making it ideal for families or friends travelling together. Both bedrooms can be set up either with comfortable a king-size bed or two cosy twin beds to suit your group. There is free WIFI throughout the house.
The cottage has its own private garden with a shady terrace for alfresco dining on hot, sunny days. Make the most of the BBQ and fully equipped kitchen for long lazy lunches and suppers on the terrace. In the winter cosy up by the log-burner and read a good book or relax and watch a film.
There is private parking for two cars at Maurice's House and additional parking at the Château if required. You will need a car to get around, our driveway is almost a kilometre long in itself. But you'll want to have a car on hand for exploring the Loire Châteaux, vineyards and countryside - all within easy access for days out.
Our tiny local village has a market stall on Tuesday mornings, and there are plenty of bakeries for fresh croissants, and good supermarkets in nearby villages. There's a fabulous market in Le Mans on Wednesday, Friday and Sunday mornings, and plenty of great restaurants too.

About the host
Hosted by Rebecca & Tim Jones

In 2017 Rebecca and Tim Jones packed up their two children Rufus and Laurie, sold everything they owned in the UK and moved to France to rescue Château de la Ruche, an 18th century château in the Sarthe countryside near Le Mans.
They undertook much of the renovation work themselves and opened their successful bed and breakfast in August 2018. In 2021 they finished work on Maurice's House, a spacious two-bed self-catering cottage in the grounds of the château.
Rebecca and Tim continue to renovate the château - using they money the earn from the B&B and holiday cottage to continue to restore it, the gardens, grounds and woodland. Its a life-long passion project. They love to shop at flea-markets and antique fairs to furnish their rooms and are always happy to give fellow antique hunters recommendations.

Why they chose this property
Light and airy, with plenty of original features, the restoration of Maurice's House was a labour of love, with much of the renovation work carried out during the 2020 and 2021 lockdowns. With it's hand-built stair case, lime washed walls and original tommette tiled floors it has a beautiful French farmhouse feel. At the same time it's packed with modern conveniences, super comfy beds and large, luxurious bathrooms.
What makes this property unique
Ask about dinner at the Château - served five nights a week during the summer months.
