We were quite frustrated with the door locks at this house. They are old and vintage and very difficult to manage. On our last night there, we were stuck outside in the snow because the key would not open any of the locks. I called the manager but never received a response. We were finally able to get in after jiggling the key A LOT, but it was quite a frustrating experience.
Terrible experience from start to finish. Upon arrival at night, the front door was extremely difficult to open. The owner instructed me to go around the side to where I found the backdoor wide open. Unsettling especially because we were with a small child. But we moved on and started to get settled. Sure enough, a mouse was in the house. The house was clean so he must have got in with the open door. My daughter and I managed to usher him out. No harm no foul. I wasn't planning to add the mouse to my review if it wasn't for the way we were stolen from at the end of our trip so I will highlight EVERYTHING to keep you away from this property. It's OLD. the floors creek so loud it will wake the whole house up. The heating is a disaster. The room with the murphy bed gets suffocatingly hot. The room with the queen bed has an old, squeaky, super uncomfortable bed. But what put the nail in the coffin was how rudely we were treated upon departure. I shared with the owner that we will be checking in late and asked for a later departure (there is no one checking in the day of our departure -validated on VRBO). The owner said 12. We were about 30 minutes past 12 and I receive threating messages to leave the house NOW. In our haste to depart, we left our sleds in the garage. we realized this a whole 2 mins later and returned to the cleaners telling us they are not there! The owner said it was our fault for leaving items after a late departure and to file a claim with VRBO!
This house worked perfectly for our family. We were able to walk to breakfast/coffee every morning and walk to Columbia Park for play with our kiddos. The kitchen was stocked well enough for us to make breakfast and the dining room was great to play dominos and other games. The smart TV allowed us to watch our morning shows and having two bathrooms proved very helpful when trying to get out the house early to head up to the mountain.
We had a great stay! Within walking distance to downtown Bend area. The house was just has pictured, it really is a charming craftsman bungalow! Would definitely stay again.
We enjoyed our stay at this beautiful home so close to everything. John was very courteous and allowed us to check in early which we really appreciated.
We had such a great time at the Bend house on Congress Street.
*the location is AMAZING. We loved leaving the car parked in the garage and walking to everything. We were able to fill our paddle boards and leave them inflated since the walk to Drake park was just a few minutes. You can walk to whitewater park in just 10 minutes for a short float or all the way to riverbend in around 25 for the full float. There are multiple coffee shops less than 10 minutes away. Really, this location is perfection.
*the house was very comfortable for 2 adults and their 2 adult children, as well as our dog.
*The home was exceptionally cool; AC is provided, but the house stayed very comfortable in the mornings with just the screen door.
Would recommend and stay again!
This property is in a great location, close to the river and fun activities in Bend. The house was very well kept and charming. The host was easy to communicate with and very accommodating in light of our travel challenges. We've bookmarked this place as our go-to place to stay when we visit family.
The house was in a great location and had everything we needed. Our only complaint would be we didn’t have enough hot water for showers the 2nd morning.
Thoughtfully updated to retain all the charm. Location is great and convenient! John was easy to communicate with and responsive throughout our stay. The beds are soft, which is not necessarily a negative, but was a struggle for us as we sleep better on firm mattresses.
I stayed here with my husband, sister and my 4 month old and it was such a lovely weekend. We walked everywhere and spent lots of time in the park. The house was cozy and well appointed. We will be back!
Great location near downtown and the river. Easy walk to food and drink. The house was charming and well stocked for our stay. Outside areas were inviting and provided a shady retreat to recharge on warm afternoons.
This location and neighborhood cannot be beat! It is a 5 minute walk into old town Bend through a gorgeous old neighborhood. The home itself is a 40's bungalow with tons of built ins and charm throughout. The beds are fine. The main bath has good lighting and a make up mirror that was great! We were able to park in the garage.
I gave it four stars because the seating in the living room consists of a couch that seats 3 and 3 plastic chairs. The placement of the TV is awkward and wouldn't really be comfortable to watch. The lighting is gorgeous period pieces that unfortunately give very little light. The dining room is so dim we struggled to see a board game we were playing. A few, well placed, floor and table lamps would increase the comfort dramatically. The kitchen is very small and not outfitted to cook a meal. There were no measuring cups (except for a lone 1/3 c) or spoons. The floor is original and beautiful but it is very squeeky. You don't really notice it during the day but if you get up at night you wake the whole house. I'm not sure what could be done to fix that. The shower curtains in the second bath are cotton, with no liner, and get soaked with a shower. We had to collect packages for the owner which was fine but, with all the porch pirates, not a responsibility we relished. The yard is large and lovely but needs much better furniture
I get the sense that this home is a project in the works and I think it will be fantastic but it needs some tweaks to get there.
