About this property

The Pine Tree

About This Space

Whether you are an outdoor adventurer or prefer to relax and get cozy, The Pine Tree Getaway is the perfect place for you. This property is just over 1,100 square feet, was built in 1980 and has been renovated with a more modern feel while still keeping the charm of a mountainous retreat. You will have a stunning view of the face of the mountain, which is beautifully lit at night, from the back deck and the master bedroom.

The Pine Tree Getaway is the perfect retreat for couples, families and friends. Whether you are looking to spend the weekend skiing, downhill mountain biking, zip lining, climbing the ropes course, riding the mountain coster rides at the Adventure Center, making a splash at Cascades Indoor Waterpark, or simply looking to relax and rejuvenate, this place is for you.

The Townhome

The Pine Tree Getaway is the perfect retreat for couples, families and friends. Whether you are looking to spend the weekend skiing, downhill mountain biking, zip lining, climbing the ropes course, riding the mountain coster rides at the Adventure Center, making a splash at Cascades Indoor Waterpark, or simply looking to relax and rejuvenate, this place is for you.

Originally built and decorated with a rustic mind, our modern amenities and decor paired with new flooring will make your stay a memorable one, while still enjoying the character and charm of a mountain townhome.

The Kitchen: Whether you love cooking up a delicious meal or prefer to make something quick and easy, this kitchen will help make either meal come to life. Aside from the standard appliances, you will find pots and pans, a blender, waffle maker, toaster oven, utensils, silverware, plates and bowls, pint glasses, wine glasses, mugs, and a stocked pantry with herbs and spices. There are hand-towels, dish-soap, and paper towels. There is a breakfast bar with stools and a kitchen table to sit down and enjoy a meal.

Early Morning Treats: Most of us love waking up to a hot cup of coffee or tea so we provide complimentary morning beverages to make you feel at home. We supply pre-measured individually packaged 100% mountain grown Classic Roast Folders Coffee which will brew 4 cups, Black Tea, sugar and creamer. We’ve got you covered with a coffee maker and tea kettle as well.

The Living/Dining Room: There is an open floor feel and a half vaulted ceiling over the entry way and stairs which gives the space a large and airy feel. There are large windows which bring in a ton of natural light and offer you a fantastic view of the mountains. We have comfortable furnishings and a SmartTV positioned over a fireplace with remote starting LED candles lined inside which only adds to the overall vibe of the space. You will also find your share of boardgames to fill the night with added laughter.

The Bathrooms: We have two full bathrooms! This makes it extremely convenient when staying with more than 1-2 people. Having to wait around to shower after an adventurous day can be daunting. Having two full baths eliminates that wait time. Our bathrooms are updated and have a full shower tub with towels for you to use. Hand-soap is provided but you will need to bring your own toothpaste, body wash, shampoo and conditioner.

The Bedrooms: The Pine Tree Getaway has two full bedrooms and an open loft area for extra sleeping, which is what allows the home to sleep 4-6 people. In the two bedrooms, you will find a queen bed, dresser and closet and the loft has two twin beds and a small dresser. There are plenty of pillows, warm comforters and blankets, and freshly laundered linens with each stay to help you unwind and rest up for the following day’s festivities. It is important to note, the stairs to the loft are steep with short treads. Although still manageable, it may be tricky if your legs are wobbly from a day full or skiing or hiking or an evening that ended with a nightcap.

The Deck: This is where you can take in the fresh air and the beautiful view of the mountains. In the Summer and Fall, you will find an outdoor patio set with two benches on either side and a chair on each end which will comfortably seat 6 people. This gives you the ability to eat outside, play games, chat or just relax.

The Decor: A rustic mountanous retreat with hints of modern, bohemian and mid century modern throughout.

Technology: You will have access to wifi and a smart TV. You will need to bring your own phone charging cord.

Washer and Dryer: There is a laundry room on the second floor with a large washer and dryer to use during your extended stays. Laundry detergent is provided.

Heating and Cooling: There is electric baseboard heating throughout the home with thermostates in each room. You will find window AC units for the summer months.

Guess Access

You will have sole access to the entire townhome during your stay and will access the home by using a code on the Smart Lock. The code will be activated at the time of your arrival and will deactivate after checkout. Access includes the entire townhome, the front foyer, and the back deck. There is also a large lot of grass off the back of our deck which is perfect for playing catch, frisbee, CanJam, bocce ball or kicking the soccer ball around.

Other Things To Note

Cleaning Protocol: We use a professional cleaning company to clean, disinfect and sanitize the entire home between guests. We provide hand-soap and dish-soap and also a broom and vacuum to use as needed during your stay if needed. We do ask you: clean up all your garbage and place it in the outdoor garbage can, place all used towels in a pile on the bathroom floors and keep all used beds unmade prior to your departure for our cleaner.

Additional Information: Our home is a non-smoking, no parties place. No smoking includes, but is not limited to: cannabis, vaping, cigarettes and cigars. By booking our home, you agree to these terms and conditions and those outlined in our house manual. Any violation of these may result in a minimum of $250 house violation fee.

Great Pine Tree Getaway

We stayed at Pine Tree Getaway for just about a month. Everything was as described in the listing. A great place for quiet, hiking, reading, and exploring. We were there for the he month of September. It was a very convenient location for us to visit friends and relatives. We would certainly stay here again. Jamie was an excellent host. She was extremely responsive throughout the entire VRBO process. That was much appreciated.

Loved it!

This was my second stay at the Pine Tree, and I loved it even more than the first (I stayed here with my sister in April). As usual, the home was immaculate and well appointed. I enjoyed seeing the fall colors and discovering more about the area around Greek Peak.

Great getaway

We truly enjoyed our weekend at The Pine Tree. The house was spotlessly clean, comfortable, and convenient. It was well appointed and provided all we needed to feel at home while away from home. We loved that our host stocked the kitchen with basic spices as well as coffee and tea. It was a quick and easy drive to SUNY Cortland. We hope to return to the Pine Tree in the near future.

Beautiful townhouse

Listing is very accurate. Nicely decorated and kitchen ware/supplies were the most plentiful we've ever experienced in a VRBO. Bed was very comfortable. Quiet end unit townhouse with walkable access to all of Greek Peak. We enjoyed our stay and will book again when we return to my hometown of Cortland.

About the host

Hosted by Jamie Dougherty

Host profile image
I am originally from Buffalo and currently reside in Rochester, working as a Physician Assistant. On the side, I run my own company, Off Leash Apparel, which donates a portion of sales to local animal shelters and rescues. In my free time, I enjoy outdoor activities including hiking, biking and skiing, and I enjoy a craft beer when relaxing.

Although I reside 2 hours away from The Pine Tree Getaway, I am very familiar with the region after attending Grad School 40 minutes North in Syracuse. During my school years, my friends and I would travel to Greek Peak on our weekends to enjoy skiing in the winter and mountain biking in the summer. This place is still my getaway retreat and I hope you enjoy your time there just as much as I do.

Traveling allows you to become so many different versions of yourself, and I hope you love the version this magical place brings out of you.

Why they chose this property

The Pine Tree Getaway is .2 miles to the nearest ski lift at Greek Peak Mountain Resort, Central New York’s largest ski resort. The townhome is surrounded by 7,000 acres of state-protected land that is accessible by all residents and guests.

This location is the perfect getaway due to all the exciting activities all year round.

In the winter, you can ski or snowboard 56 trails with a vertical drop of 952 feet and a long run of 1.5 miles. There are 8 chair lifts, 2 surface lifts, a beginners’ slope and 4 terrain parks. You can also cross country ski and snowshoe at Greek Peak Nordic Center with over 15km of trails that vary to fit all ability levels.

In the warmer months you can do a variety of outdoor activites. There are surrounding hiking trails, downhill mountain biking and cross-country biking, an Aerial Challenge Ropes Course, a Mountain Coaster, Zip lines, Sky View Tour Chairlift Ride, 9-Hole Disc/Frisbee Golf, and Hope Lake Park with Stand Up Paddle Boards, Paddle Boats and a white sand beach. There is also an outdoor movie theater.

During the Fall, you will find seasonal activities that range from a Sunset Zip & Sip to haunted Zip Line and Coaster rides.

All year round, you can assess Cascades Indoor Waterpark, a year-round indoor waterpark with activities for all age groups, head to the Zip Line Tours or enjoy the Mountain Coaster.

Locally, you will find Carvers Steakhouse in Hope Lake Lodge, Trax Pub & Grill restaurant with an expansive 6,000 sq ft deck in the main ski lodge, and Bobcat Lounge for great cocktails. Virgil country store is available to pick up small snacks or gas.

Head 10-15 minutes north and end up in Cortland, NY with local breweries, larger grocery stores, additional gas stations and ATMs.

Head on a scenic drive 30 minutes east to Ithaca, NY where you will find breweries, additional hiking, a variety of restaurants and a wide range of culture.

What makes this property unique

We call ourselves The Pine Tree Getaway because of our surroundings and also because of our decor. You will find an accented fireplace with a pine tree design, black and white photos of stamped tree trunks and various other pine tree symbols like on our handmade coasters. You will, of course, also find real pine cones throughout.
