Located at the foot of Monks Hill and within minutes walk to the sea and a short drive to English Harbour and yachts from all over the world. Bamboo Place is nestled in a lush tropical setting overlooking Falmouth Harbour.

The property consists of the Bamboo House and Bamboo Cottage connected by a swimming pool with a beautiful palm filled garden, rare giant White Bird of Paradise and clusters of tall bamboo adding to the tranquility, as the sway and rustle of these trees make music in the Caribbean breeze.

Bamboo House is a two story, the main level apartment is a spacious two bedroom, two bath with a large open plan living, dining and kitchen area and a huge adjoining verandah with dining table, sofa & large double hammock for reading or siesta's.

There is also a one bedroom, 2 story cottage available. Please see VRBO listing #266897.

The apartment and the cottage #266897 can be rented separately or as one. The owner lives on the upper floor of Bamboo House, however the property has been cleverly designed to give everyone their own access and privacy, while having the security of knowing there is someone around should you need any assistance.

The property has a very romantic and relaxed feeling and is an ideal place to just sit back and enjoy, also a good base from which to do your exploring of the Island.

Peaceful Oasis

What a wonderful holiday we’ve had at Bamboo Garden!Away from the hustle and bustle, yet a short distance to the fabulous restaurants in English and Falmouth Harbour. Joanna has the most beautiful surroundings to her delightful properties and inviting pool. The gardens are an absolute delight, flowers, mature trees, bushes and of course bamboo! At night pretty lights adorn them and it’s stunning! Two gorgeous dogs and tortoises live here too. The tortoises range from very tiny to large and add to the ambience. Inside is spacious and comfortable with everything one would need for a restful stay. The BBQ worked very well.Joanne made us very welcome and is friendly and helpful! Best place we’ve stayed as a couple across the island, having visited Antigua for many years. Thank you Jo! Definitely advise a hire car, 4x4 is our choice. Roads can be bumpy and side roads may resemble tracks. We travelled the length and breadth of the island without any problems. There are a few supermarkets close by, the super large Epicurian supermarket, near St John’s is approx a 30 minute drive. We visited numerous beaches across the island during our stay, dining in the lovely beach bars/restaurants.

Fantastic!

Bamboo Garden is just the perfect place to stay. The house is lovely and the garden and pool are just wonderful, a haven in the heat of the afternoon and away from the busy harbour area. Jo couldn't have been more helpful and made our stay all the more enjoyable. It is so easy to access many parts of the island. A car really is essential if you want to explore. Hope to be back at some stage!

Hey!

This place is awesome! Close to everything yet seemingly far away. The property is beautiful. Joanne is very nice and accommodating. I highly recommend going unless you’re planning on going when we’re going back because that’s problematic!!!!

Beautiful property

Stayed 11 nights at Bamboo Cottage, really beautiful property and amazing garden. The host Joanne was very welcoming and very helpful with what to do on the island, best places to etc. Would definitely go back there, is best to hire a car but as restaurants and beach not too far hiring a taxi would be good too.

Perfect Getaway

Bamboo Garden was the perfect Caribbean getaway. A spacious, clean house, allowing two couples to have their own private bedroom and bathroom on either side of the main living area. Speaking of which, we were mostly outside, on the comfortable porch or beside the pool, surrounded by beautiful gardens and birdsong. Joanne is also the perfect host. We would definitely come again.

Quick trip to paradise

This is the second time we have stayed here and it was even better then the first. Joanne is the best! We only had a few days due to schedule and Joanne gave us a list of all the new places since the last time we were there so we could maximize our stay. Already thinking of our next stay.

All it was advertised as and more!

The Bamboo Cottage could be called the Garden of Eden! What a lovely, secluded paradise. The cottage itself was a spacious, well appointed, very clean two-bedroom, two-bath space with a full kitchen. The porch was what we enjoyed most. We had morning coffee watching the hummingbirds, finches and bananquits join us for breakfast. A BBQ grill was convenient (we prepped food for a boat charter). The pool was also a great amenity. Joanne was the perfect host as she provided info and help but was never intrusive. She knows Antigua! An A+ recommendation.

Vibing out

This property was divine. The vibe was just relaxing and laid back. We spent as much time as possible in the garden and pool. It was as if in a world all by yourself. Joanne has done an amazing job with the grounds, making it secluded and lots of comfortable sitting areas in garden and by pool. Kitchen well stocked and beds comfortable. Joanne gave the best recommendations. Would visit this property again and again.

The Perfect Holiday Retreat

Joanne's place was the perfect home to experience the true Antigua. Joanne was very welcoming and we arrived to a delicious platter of humus, coupled with a jug of the local Christmas drink, sorrel. Joanne was on hand if needed and she happily shared with us her knowledge of the local area. Her tropical garden was truly beautiful, the perfect place to relax and to enjoy the pool. The house itself was spacious, clean and very well equipped. I wouldn't hesitate in recommending it. Thank you Joanne for making this a very memorable holiday, we hope to come back soon.

Bamboo Garden

Our family of four really enjoyed our stay at the Bamboo Garden! The grounds are lovely and well kept and staying in the house gives you the feel of a traditional Caribbean cottage will all of the modern amenities. The photo's accurately reflect the actual cottage well. Joanne was a very helpful with advice and suggestions regarding what to do / see and potential places to eat while in Antigua, but also let us have our own space. Thank you Joanne for sharing your amazing garden with us and for suggesting the Xtreme Boat tour, it was one of the highlights of the trip! We will definitely return should we visit Antigua again.

A nice retreat in Falmouth Harbour

Joanne has worked hard to make the house, grounds and pool area very welcoming. This is the first Caribbean island that I visited that air conditioning was not needed to sleep at night. The house is close to the Falmouth Harbour area, which has plenty of restaurant options. There are two local grocery stores that have staples, but I recommend using one of the larger grocery stores on your way in from the airport. Darkwood Beach is the best on the island and an easy drive. Locals are very friendly. There is an ice cream place 5 minutes away.

Beautiful Property

We stayed at Joanne's Bamboo House Feb 17-24, 2017. The house, gardens and pool are exactly as they are pictured. Joanne was wonderful and helpful. There are lots of sounds at night and the windows have to be left open with fans running, so if you aren't a sound sleeper I would suggest ear plugs. We throughly enjoyed the house and the pool. There is a small local market close by and it is necessary to rent a car while visiting. The beaches are beautiful and all the local people were helpful and nice. We would definitely visit again.

Oasis in Antigua

Call it oasis, call it paradise, call it haven. It’s all true. This is what ‘Bamboo Garden’ really is. Joanne created this lush beautiful sanctuary in the middle of nowhere, but close enough to everywhere you want to go. Highly recommended this peaceful place to come back to after exploring the island, spending a day at the beach, or just hanging out and relax by the pool. PS I wouldn’t recommend D’s car rental. There’re many other reliable car rental agencies on the island.

Best holiday ever!

What an amazing place this is, the garden alone is one of the most beautiful I have ever been in. Bamboo Garden is so special, serene, private and wonderfully relaxing. The house is so comfortable and perfectly setup for 2 couples to share and still have their own space. Antigua is beautiful and everyone was so friendly and helpful, this is also a perfect location in which to do your island touring then come home and hang out by the pool. We also love being in the Falmouth/English Harbour area, lots of good restaurants, hiking, beautiful beaches, snorkling & lots of nice people. This was our third visit and we will defineatly be back again. Thank you so much Joanne.

A little piece of heaven.

Everything that everyone has written about Bamboo Garden is true but even better. We are two older, very active cousins from New England, and we have fallen in love with the house and the island. It really is the perfect place. An oasis of beauty and relaxation. Joanne has created a little piece of heaven. The house is charming, great kitchen, Beds, and the porch is where you will want to spend your time. We felt very safe on the island and drove everywhere. Catherine’s beach restaurant is a must. I can’t think of a more wonderful spot for relaxing or adventure. Zip lining was a hoot.

Pure Magic!

The only hesitation I might have about giving Joanne's transcendent cottage 5 stars is the thought of it being overrun by other, less worthy travelers than me. Joanne has built an elegant spacious wooden house and furnished it with great taste and care, on an island where fine furniture is likely hard to find. Then she built a garden and swimming pool around it that is absolute pure magic, stunning palms, bouganvillia etc. You can sit by the pool all day and be in the prettiest spot in Antigua. Restaurants, bakeries and shops all 5 minutes walk away. Finally, Joanne, is helpful, charming, quirky, wonderful.

A Perfect Place to Stay in English Harbor

Had a great stay at Joanne's house. Staying at the property feels like living in a tropical garden. A truly unique place. The location is very close to a couple of outstanding beaches, grocery stores, and many good restaurants (the service everywhere is super slow, allocate 2 to 3 hours for a dinner). The beach chairs are provided, although there is no cooler to take to the beach. The car is a must of course and an SUV is preferred, not so much for the roads but to bring beach chairs to the beaches as some of the chairs are not foldable. The apartment is spacious for a family of 4 and provides all the necessary amenities. The A/C (in the bedrooms only) work great. The living room/kitchen/dining areas can get a bit warm though. There are no washer and dryer but Joanne provides towel service when requested. Joanne is a superb host, very accommodating and is ready to help with any question or concern you might have. She will go above and beyond to make your stay enjoyable.

A relaxing tropical hide away

We visited this villa in April of this year during the Antigua sailing week and we had a great time. The villa was very well located just off the main road going into Falmouth Harbour, 5 mins in a taxi or on the bus. The villa was set in a lush tropical garden that was so peaceful and it was great to spend time on the large veranda having our meals and just relaxing watching and listening to the birds, the pool and BBQ were great added benefits. Joanne, the owner, who lives above the villa was such a great host, very informative and friendly and always around if you needed her. The villa was very comfortable, spacious and clean and it had everything we wanted as two couples, including beach towels. Within 5 minutes walk of the villa we found a lovely restaurant and bar, Papas and a small marina with a bar and restaurant, there was also Sweet T's, a local road side bar/restaurant that we visited several times for lunch, great chicken wings. We would definitely recommend this villa to all our friends and we would again like to thank Joanne for being such a gracious host.

Great Place To Stay - I'm Sure I'll Be Back!

I have stayed in the house twice already this year. I'm certain I will return. The first stay was with family and the second was with friends and it was wonderful both times. The house is lovely and spacious and very comfortable. It is very well-located near Falmouth Harbor. I would definitely recommend getting a car not because of the location but because it is just really nice to have a car to get all around the island (there are so many wonderful places to visit and it's fun to drive - just get a car). Joanne will recommend a car company for you, as well as a taxi driver, and will provide you with a mobile phone, recommendations and information on where to go, and delicious fresh fruits and vegetables from the market. She is a gracious host who makes you feel like you're at home. The pool here is lovely, especially for a nighttime swim. You're also very close to a grocery store, a liquor store and many restaurants so you should be all set. I would (and probably will) absolutely stay here again.

Fabulous Host!

We recently returned home (reluctantly) from two weeks at the Bamboo House. We have stayed at many VRBO properties and Bamboo House tops our list. Our host Joanne was so accommodating that we felt like we were staying with family. The garden, the pool and the setting were beautiful. Lots to do near Falmouth and English harbors. Rent a 4X4 vehicle which will allow you to access Rendezvous Bay beach. Very few people make the drive so you may end up with one of the most gorgeous beaches you've ever seen all to yourself. For scuba divers, we would recommend Tony at Dockyard Divers. With over 12,000 dives, you will be in great hands. There are lots if really good restaurants in the area but we chose to eat in most of the time. Our gorgeous deck was the perfect spot to enjoy fresh fish that we purchased at the local grocery and barbecued. If you have never tried the vacation rental option, this would be a great place to start. We highly recommend the Bamboo House (and Bamboo Cottage on the same property) and can't wait to return. All of the comforts of home and in the tropics!

This was our second year staying at Bamboo House for four weeks. The house is very comfortable with a fabulous wrap around porch. The outside dining next to the hummingbird feeder was great as we watched the bananaquits and hummingbirds fighting to eat the sugar water filled feeder. We enjoyed the charcoal grill outside for cooking dinner in the evening. The grounds are lovely and well kept and the pool is great for a late afternoon swim. A new addition this year were canvas beach chairs which were really nice to use, especially at Pigeon Beach and Half Moon Bay. The shopping at Bailey's and Crabhole are very convenient and we loved the croissants from the bakery down the road. The fresh vegetables we obtained from Joanne were out of this world. Such a treat! We enjoy walking in the morning and Joanne had suggested a lovely walk through some neighborhoods past the riding stables. We enjoyed Trapas Restaurant in the harbor and for a special night- Cambusa across the street from the property. Great place to stay in a quiet neighborhood. A car is a definite necessity.

Great Antiguan vacation

We spent a wonderful four weeks in Antigua in this lovely Caribbean home. It is spacious, has beautiful island decor, a huge porch for reading, eating, relaxing, etc. overlooking a yard and pool with tropical trees and plantings. It is near Falmouth Harbor where you can enjoy looking at the yachts or going to the local Pigeon Beach which has picnic tables, shade trees, a nearby restaurant and a great beach for swimming. Joanne spent a lot of time keeping the grounds looking their best and was very helpful with directions to places of interest. She also obtains fresh vegetables and fruits from local farms a couple of times/week which she is very willing to sell to her tenants. So much better than what was for sale in the local "supermarket". We enjoyed Trappas restaurant in Falmouth Harbor for good meals, especially fish, reasonable prices and a nice atmosphere and also Cambusa on the waterfront at the Catamaran Marina. And make sure to fill the hummingbird feeder for your daily entertainment by the bananaquits and hummingbirds. With two bedrooms and two baths it is the perfect place to have a couple of friends or relatives join you and the kitchen is large and well equipped which makes meal preparations easy. This is neighborhood living, not a resort, which is what makes it so enjoyable.

Disappointment

My husband and I arrived on Jan 27, 2011 for an intended 9 night stay and were disappointed in the property from the start. Amenities were worn and in need of refurbishment and the property needed basic maintenance. Security was inadequate, there was no safe for valuables and no practical way of locking the rear access to the lower house (large wooden shutters for patio doors). The property was clean but not exceptionally so. Location was such that taxi drivers could not find it. A car was required to access beaches and other attractions and we did obtain a rental car after our arrival. Our disappointment was evident in that we only stayed for 5 nights but we paid for 7 (minimum stay as per the owner's policy). We searched for alternate accomodation after our arrival, which was booked on Jan 29, 2011 (I have proof of this). We had a dispute with the owner, Joanne, suffice it to say that Joanne reacted badly however we paid the amount we owed in cash and left happy to have the experience behind us. I have booked private rentals for several years and have never been disappointed or had a dispute with an owner. There were no traveller reviews posted for this property at the time we booked and I am surprised at other recently posted guest comments in light of our experience. I felt it was important to provide our account to help future travellers assess their options. Quality, security and location are very important considerations for us among other things. I would not recommend this property.

We’ve Discovered a Small Paradise

I’ve put off doing this review because it’s hard to find the right words on how much we enjoyed our stay at Bamboo House. A better host you will not find than Joanne. We stayed at Bamboo House with another couple March 12th to March 26th, 2014. Every morning we would enjoy relaxing and having breakfast on the wrap around veranda. Then of course a dip in the pool. Next we were either off somewhere for lunch or packing a lunch and heading for a beach. Most evenings we enjoyed a BBQ dinner cooked on a charcoal BBQ on the veranda. Forgot how good food tasted cooked over charcoal. We did enjoy a couple of nights out for dinner and a couple of pizza nights on the veranda. Most days we enjoyed the pool after the beach and sometimes later in the evening. We also did some site seeing and got lost a few times but truly enjoyed seeing parts of the island we wouldn’t otherwise see. Our favorite beach was Rendezvous. Need a 4X4 though as it’s a rough road. Its worth it though as it’s a beautiful beach and you all but have it to yourself. I won’t go into all the different places to go as they are all covered many times on reviews below. We concur with everything positive. A very beautiful island. Joanne is such a wonderful person. She is very well versed on the island and was so very helpful with anything we needed. She always went the extra mile for us. The grounds are beautiful and very well kept. So much to see and every time I walked around the grounds, I saw something different. As for the house itself, it’s wonderful and comfortable. The two bedrooms have their own bathroom. The kitchen is well equipped for all your cooking needs. The living room is very comfortable but we spent little time in it. Our time was out on the wrap around veranda where we could enjoy the view of the grounds, listen to birds during the days, and the frogs at night. For a vehicle, we used TT car rentals and they were great. They lead us to Bamboo House which made it much easier. After that, we found for the most part it was easy to get around the island. Baileys grocery and Crabhole liquor stores are very close and a great little ice cream place (same parking lot as Baileys). So thank you so very much Joanne. We look forward to spending another holiday with you in the future. Also looking forward to my Desert Rose seeds.
