We loved this home, and had a wonderful time in Harpswell. Nate was very responsive to our questions, and we met Dee, the caretaker, who was very friendly and truly wanted to make our stay as enjoyable as possible. The house was immaculate and very well equipped with things like toilet paper, paper towels, dish soap, hand soap, bags to use for your trip to the grocery store, and jugs of drinking water. There was also plenty of firewood for campfires and propane for the grill. For groceries, we went to Hannafords in Brunswick, and Uncle Pete’s right up the road for a few things we forgot and to pick up a few extra adult drinks. The house does not have AC, except a single unit in one of the bedrooms. It was smoldering hot the first few days of our trip, and the house was pretty unbearable, but thankfully the heat broke and we were able to enjoy the cooler breezes, and sleep in comfort. There are fans throughout, which helped a little. The location of the house cannot be beat. The views all around are stunning, especially at sunrise and sunset. It is a very quiet and safe area, although some people drive too fast on the nearby road, so you have to be very cautious walking, especially with all the blind curves. We enjoyed kayaking (there are several kayaks and life jackets), watching the tides come in and out, and searching the beach for seaglass. We highly recommend walking to Potts Point (check it out at high and low tide for two totally different experiences) and Graveyard Point. We saw so many crabs, hermit crabs, and periwinkles… it was amazing! We also took a trip to Bailey Island and explored the beaches there to continue our treasure hunting. There aren’t a ton of super close restaurants (we had no idea Estes had closed, so that was a bit of a bummer for us), but Dolphin Cove was a short drive with scenic views, a nice atmosphere, and really good food, as well as Erica’s for a laid-back vibe and yummy lobster rolls. For ice cream, check out Pammy’s, and/or drive to Brunswick for an interesting selection of flavors at Gelato Fiasco, as well as lots of restaurants to choose from and shops to peruse. We went to Pepper’s Landing, and the food was fantastic… try the pickle brined chicken! We noticed that the water at the house felt slimy, so it seemed difficult to rinse soap off when showering, washing hands, and washing dishes. Definitely did not ruin our trip! There is so much to explore in the area, and we hope to return in the future!
