About this property

Beachy Vintage Vibe — Pet Friendly!

We are just a 100 yard walk down a dead-end street that ends at the beach! This part of the beach is very uncrowded even during the summer. Upon entering, you will be greeted with tiled floors that are offset by the warmth of vintage California redwood paneling and exposed brick walls. This house is truly stuck in the 1970s and not decked out with all the latest gadgets or appliances. It is very simplistic, rustic, and well, kind of quirky. To offset what it is lacking, it has a prime island location!
It's suitable for 2 people, or 3 if the third person wants to sleep on a small couch, or you're welcome to bring a blow-up mattress – there is ample room for one.

Please note: guests will not have access to AC/Heat controls. This house is equipped with a finicky geo-thermal unit. If you desire a certain temp, please let us know and we will adjust the thermostat to your desire. However, being an older home located in a subtropical climate, it will never be 68 degrees inside during the summer months.
The property sits upon what once was a natural sand dune and is very shady with lots of oaks and palm trees. There is unkempt vegetation everywhere – there is no manicured lawn here. (This lot is reminiscent to what this end of island looked like before the resort area was developed). We have chosen to have a sustainable yard – no watering required – and provide an ecological oasis for native plants and animals. If you're lucky, you will see the small herd of white tail deer that call a corner of the yard their home. PLEASE NOTE: We are surrounded by lots of trees; therefore, there is not a lot of natural light inside, so it may be too dark for some people’s taste. We have ample lighting and lamps throughout to compensate for the lack of natural light coming through the windows and doors. However, this can be beneficial especially during the hot summer months after being out on the beach all day.
So, if what you’re looking for is a place with all the bells and whistles of a newly renovated home or an airy light-filled modern beach house with all the latest appliances and perks, please look elsewhere – you’re not going to be happy here. We strive to make our guests happy and comfortable during their stay and enjoy their time in our ocean playground.
**FYI: there is no dishwasher or washer/dryer. If you need to do laundry, there is an IOP Laundromat about 2.5 miles away in the Harris Teeter shopping center.

PETS: We do accept friendly, housebroken dogs only – Limit Two (2) Dogs – preferably smaller dogs, but will accept large dogs depending on breed. ALL DOGS MUST BE PRE-APPROVED PRIOR TO BOOKING. We charge a pet fee of $20 per dog. This fee is included in your quote when you select that you are bringing pets. Also, when outside, your dog will have to be on a leash and all pet waste will have to be picked up and disposed in the trash can outside by the curb. We do not accept cats.
City of Isle of Palms Dog Rules: Dogs can run off-leash on the beach every day from 5a.m. to 9a.m., after that, they must be leashed at all times.
If you would like more info, please inquire via email and I’ll be happy to answer any of your questions before you book.

Quick weekend
We found the place pretty easily. It’s a bit tucked in, but we figured it out. Very rustic and cute….but a bit chilly during that weekend. Super easy access to the beach and we enjoyed our beach time a lot! Lots of twists and turns and light switches to navigate in that small space but we figured that out too! The TV would not turn on and the ceiling fan could not be turned off, so those things were a bit annoying but overall we had a great time!

Disappointing. Property is dated. Needs to be freshened up quite a bit including adequate lighting, heat and a/c, hot water temp.

Misrepresentation
The property is listed as a house. Its a basement apartment, There's a tenant living on the main floor. There is no door on the shower, the opening is very narrow to get into the shower. The outside property is not clean debris, garage and concrete are everywhere. The overall house is dirty inside and out. When we reached to the owner she was not concerned about our grievances.

Interesting Place
This is one of those places where you need to study every photo and carefully read the description and the reviews. If you do that and understand what you are getting then you will be very happy. The location couldn't be much better. That end of the beach is very quiet. The house is unusual and interesting. It reminds me of a hobbit home. It has everything but nothing is top shelf. I stayed there with my dog so she could have a beach vacation and that worked out great. The tiny shower has a wand so you can bathe your dog after the beach. I enjoyed it.

Small but sweet
Such a cute place. It’s definitely older and more rustic than you’d typically find on IOP, but that’s part of the charm. Perfect size for a couple who want a quick getaway!

The property was … rustic and quirky. (As advertised). We had some problems with the shower (it needed repaired). However, the host was very responsive and had a repairman on-site very quickly. (Much appreciated!)

Close to beach and allows pets
Overall our stay was very pleasant. The rooms were clean and the bed was comfortable. We were very happy with the price and being able to bring our pets. Only thing I would recommend is a porch light by the door and to clean up the yard along the sidewalk. When we would walk our dogs on Palm Blvd, the grasses were growing over the sidewalk. Nothing a weed eater couldn’t fix quickly. Would definitely stay there again.

Our beach stay
We had a nice stay. It was very relaxing and peaceful. The beach was in walking distance. The only down side to this location is the bed was hard and uncomfortable. Also, i wished the kitchen had a couple more pots and pans to cook with and maybe a large bowl. We met the host and her son who lives onsite and they were very nice.

Why they chose this property

The house is on a dead end street that ends at the beach. It is very private because, well, there is not a lot of public parking on this end of the island.

What makes this property unique

This house may not be the "prettiest" on the street, but it is very unique and vintage 1970s. It's not a big, white beach house like the others on the street, but it has been here the longest. It survived Hurricane Hugo in 1989 with minimal damage while a lot of other houses on the island were totally destroyed. It sits on top an elevated half acre sand dune with lots of trees. Some people might say that it looks "unkempt", but the owner wants it to be an undisturbed natural habitat with all the flora and fauna that was once present on this South Carolina sea island. So if you want to stay in a fancy modern beach house with an unnatural manicured lawn, then please look elsewhere. We are definitely not where you want to be.
