Stunning view
The house was beautiful and the views from every angle were just amazing. The morning view from our bed energized us and helped us get the day started. The property had a safe, private and relaxed atmosphere. The house was clean and equipped with everything we needed for our short stay. Alan met us and helped us find the property and also answered any questions we had about surrounding areas. It was our best vacation we've had, definitely a do over.

Beautiful views!!
Our week stay was very pleasant. The view of the valley was beautiful day and night! On most days we could see the Bay of Nicoya. The clouds were beautiful as they would flood through the mountains and completely hide the valley and then clear so we could see bright stars. The temperatures were nice and cool and we did have a few rain showers. The accommodations were modern and clean and of course a few tropical insects. Our host Allen was a great help to us even taking us to get groceries the first day. He also suggested restaurants and was great about fixing or supplying us with needs that came up. The property is beautiful and the views cannot be beat! We would definitely recommend staying here and we look forward to returning!

It is all about the view!!!
The bunker was fine. Had all the necessities except toilet paper. Suggestions to you are that you make sure there is toilet paper at least enough for a night and to have your caretaker have the refrigerator turned on and ice cubes in the trays. When the check in is 4 pm and the temps in Costa Rica are high there is nothing better after a long drive than a cold drink. I saw in the guest book that you had previous guests within a week. Another suggestion would be for the caretaker to come in before a new arrival to sweep up the dead bugs on the floor. I know it is Costa Rica and there are bugs but it isn't all that appealing to find dead ones all over the floor when you arrive. Caretaker lives right on the property and could easily do these couple little things for you to make new arrivals just a bit more comfortable.

chillout and the bunker
I arrived at the above for a 2 month stay. The host had to leave after I was there for 3 days due to an emergency in the US. The host's son took over for him. First of all if you are going to spend any time here, you need a car. There is a bus but its a tough walk down the mountain. The chillout place was nice however there are no curtains at all and in the afternoon when the sun hits. Its very hot in the house. The time I went the wind blew every night and it makes it hard to sleep. The main host was gone for a month and I was not asked once if there was anything I needed. I had to beg for garbage bags and never did receive them. I had to borrow a broom to sweep the floors. The views from both places are breathtaking and cannot be put into words. Very beautiful. It took about 3 days of asking if I could use the washer. It seemed like the host's son didn't want to be bother3ed by the guests. After a month I moved to the top of the mountain to the bunker. Another beautiful pace but with some minor updates it would be much better. The windows go from floor to ceiling and once again, no curtains. It gets way to hot in the house in the afternoon. I noticed the first 2 nights I had 100s of ants on the floor and the host's son stated they would be there only for a couple days and they would move on. Well. I found out they were living in the bamboo frame of the love seat which was hauled out to the deck for the remainder of my stay. There is no comfortable chairs to sit in other then 2 plastic lawn chairs. Once the main host returned, once again, I was not asked once if there was anything that I needed. The internet was very poor and when it was brought up to the host he stated he was working on it and its costa Rica. He also seemed like he didn't want to be bothered by the guest. I really felt like I was a bother to the hosts and they didn't want any contact with me. They will pick you up at the airport or drive you around for a price and their price is too high. I would not stay here again and would hope that future guests make sure you read the reviews. Like I said, the place is beautiful but the hosts are not very helpful and the places need to be updated with some minor conveniences. PS. get a car that has enough power to make it up the hill to the bunker. It is really steep.
Our fifth trip here! This is truely one of the most beautiful places on earth!
The glass house on the mountain is so perfect! It was very clean as always. There are breathtaking views everywhere you look! Our host Alan makes sure you have a great time. We always use him for our guide. He took us to the beach and has the best advice in planning where to go and what activities you might like, even if you choose to rent a car. I especially like his suggestions to join in the Tico local activities! The area is very safe. One of his dogs chose to sleep over everynight which kept my mind off of missing our furbabies! I cannot recommend Alan and his property high enough! The flowers and birds on the property are beautiful. The memories from our vacations here include the kindness of his family. I feel like he goes above and beyond any host!
Just returned from our trip and had the most relaxing time on this beautiful property taking in all the views. with clouds rolling in and out the views are for ever changing! Alan helped out a lot with places to see and which routes to take to save time on driving. His insight with Costa Rica helped immensely. We stayed for two weeks and could easily have stayed for two more. We highly recommend this property and the host.
Best Regards,
Dale and Michelle
THE ONLY PROBLEM WE HAD WAS WE WERE TO ISOLATED AND IT WAS HARD TO GO ANYWHERE BECAUSE THE GPS WAS NOT MUCH HELP. ALAN WAS VERY HELPFUL THE WHOLE TIME WE WERE. WE DID CUT THE TRIP SHORT BECAUSE THE TRAFFIC IS SO BAD AND DANGEROUS .

My husband and I chose Allen’s place for a fun, adventurous 25th Anniversary get away. It exceeded our expectations in every way.
Allen was wonderful, very communicative and helpful with supplying maps for every place we wanted to visit. He was always there for us yet gave us our own space. He and his family live in another home on his 30 acre property. Beautiful landscapes all around, so neat and clean inside and out. We were up with the sun and enjoyed the view while eating breakfast everyone morning, absolutely breathtaking. We picked fresh mangos and limes off their trees and explored the property, simply gorgeous.
The locals were so kind and helpful to us, we speak very limited Spanish. We ventured out each day and saw many different parts of the areas; La Paz waterfalls and gardens, Doka coffee plantation, Poas volcano, Zoo Ave, local restaurants, visited the local fire station, zip lined and Atv’s near Jaco beach and the list goes on. We stayed for 6 nights and it was perfect. If you plan for an extra night or 2 then I would suggest seeing more of the coast, didn’t get enough time at the ocean. It’s about a 4 hr ride so a stay overnight would be great.
A beautiful vacation, very special place.
This was my best vacation ever!!! First Alan is a God send. We hired him to be our tour guide and driver for this trip. Before we arrived he patiently worked with me to set up an itinerary, despite having a lot going. He promptly picked us up from the airport. He took us to eat after a long morning of traveling, took us to the market for fresh food and then brought us to paradise! The property is gorgeous with breathtaking views all around. The photos do no justice! Alan stays on the property with his lovely family and he was very accommodating to any of our needs. We had around the clock security with the lovely, sweet Ganesha by our side. Alan brought us to the coffee plantation for the best coffee I've ever had in my life. The place was amazing! We went zip lining which was so much fun! We traveled to Manuel Antonio National Park and had the most AMAZING food from beginning to end! We stayed in a hotel close to the park for the evening and heard congo monkeys in the woods as if they were right next to us!! It was pretty cool. We had an amazing day in the national park and on the beach. I highly recommend not only booking the property but hiring the host with the most Alan!!! Thank you so much for everything it was absolutely perfect!

Amazing Mountain Home
This home is exactly as pictured. Alan is a wonderful host and readily available to answer questions or lend advice. The house is on a very private property, high up in the beautiful mountains of Costa Rica. Definitely rent a car and be prepared to drive along the winding mountain roads! The views are breathtaking! Most adventures are about an hour or so away, so this truly is a private location. The house does not have AC, and it certainly does not need it; the constant cool breeze keeps everything comfortable. And Ganesha, the loving, ever obedient, resident German Shepherd! She is such a love and always there to escort you up the steep drive, lounge on the porch with you, and be the perfectly polite companion. We will miss her as much as we will miss the amazing views. Alan, your property is a true gem and we wish you continued success. Pura Vida!

A Real Gem !!
So you're looking for something safe, clean ,comfortable, no roosters and exciting too ? We feel this little gem delivered all that plus knowledgeable, respectful hosts . Our month stay exceeded our 1st-time-to-CR expectations ! The location was perfect for us -- It was so nice to return to the HillTop Casa with it's fantastic views and soothing breezes after a hot adventure in the lowlands .Thank You and Missing you Skeeter ,Alan and Ganisha . Looking forward to return when we will try again to wear out the blender !!
Suggestions:
Rent a 4 Wheel Drive (check for good tire tread and brakes)
Purchase Lots of Alcohol at the airport -Cheaper and great selection
Have a GPS with recent Costa Rica map
Download "WAZE" and "WhatsApp" Apps
Have some local currency for tolls and soda shops ,etc
Speak a little Spanish
Take Skeeter and Alans' suggestions on dining , must see , and routes .
Don't over schedule .
Don't underestimate time it takes to travel - 25km can take 1+ hour or longer
Plan so you don't drive at night . Sunset is @6pm .
Enjoy and Safe Travels

Costa Rica 2019
I've known Alan for several years, we both worked in a customer service industry and both left pretty much at the same time. I told him I'd be visiting as soon as possible. Once I saw the accommodations, I knew I had to visit as I've always wanted to see Costa Rica. His dad's place that he manages is a very cool place, mountainside with incredible views. Knowing Alan's ethics I knew I wouldn't be disappointed and I certainly wasn't! He helped with planning itenarary and provided transportation at a reasonable cost! We had a fantastic time that was very memorable! I personally would not book anywhere else. And I would certainly fo it again! I wouldn't change a thing! Alan is an excellent host weather for advice or providing the transportation as he did for us! Thank you Alan! Hope to see you again soon!

Mountain paradise
What an awesome place! Peaceful and private with beautiful mountain, sea, and San Jose vistas. Sunsets are sublime. Although we had read previous glowing reviews, the Twilight Bunker surpassed our expectations. Skeeter and Alan were exceptional hosts, willing to go the extra mile to ensure their guests have an enjoyable experience. We will be back!

Beautiful property!
We not only enjoyed the beautiful scenery but the host, Skeeter, was great! Thanks for making our trip so enjoyable and sharing your knowledge of the area.
Alan and Skeeter are friendly and helpful American expats. They have built this beautiful mountain top retreat near the remote town of Grifo Alto. It is about 15 minutes from Santiago de Puriscal. Small bungalow is perfect for those wanting a peaceful and relaxing retreat. About 1.5 hours from SJO airport. About the same from Jaco Beach. Bungalow has stove, cooking utensils, charcoal grill, coffee maker, fridge, etc. Well manicured garden above the bungalow. Perfect for doing yoga/exercise. Looking to get some cardio in? Just take the short walk down to the gate and back. The grade is crazy steep. Loved it!

Costa Rican Paradise!
Better than advertised and near perfect in every way. From the property to its views and right down to the hospitality, we can't say enough about our two weeks here. While Ganisha is really the one who runs things 😉, Alan and Skeeter are able assistants successfully attending to our needs promptly and with a genuine smile.
If you're looking to relax off the beaten path, there's no better place.

Pure Bliss.... Perfect location!!!
We had such a magnificent stay atop this secluded section of mountain glory!!! The location is perfect for a quiet getaway out of the hustle of the touristy areas. It is fairly easy to commute to the surrounding towns, attractions, etc. We travelled all over the West coast and felt incredibly lucky to end up back at this little slice of heaven each night! It has all the amenities you'll need for a modest yet complete home base! And the VIEW... OH MY... THE VIEW!! The property was immaculate as was the graciousness and warmth of the hosts, Skeeter and Alan! We would absolutely visit again... As a matter of fact we plan on doing so! Make sure you visit the local Soda's (diners) all around the country. It's the most authentic, amazing food you'll receive in CR! Bounce ideas off of Skeeter and Alan too, they are a wealth of knowledge about the do's and the musts! Be ready to totally relax and live PURE VIDA!!

Amazing sunrise, amazing sunset and amazing mountain views!
A gorgeous location just a short drive from the conveniences of San Jose and a short drive to the Pacific. With numerous little communities in between. Fresh breeze during the day and cool nights. The property is gorgeous and the accommodations were perfect for a couples retreat. Alan couldn’t be more helpful and we are looking forward to future visits.
This property is what Pura Vida is all about!

Absolutely amazing property and the best views on the planet
Alan and Skeeter were very generous and accommodating hosts. We didn't speak any Spanish so we really appreciated their fluent English conversations. Walking around the property we were delighted to pick fresh bananas, oranges, lemons, limes, starfruit and various other citrus. They suggested great local attractions for us to check out at our leisure. Since we're "Dog people" we really liked Ganesha (friendly German shepherd) and her company while relaxing on this mountain top paradise. She helped us feel right at home. The variety and beauty of flowering and fruit bearing trees/bushes and tropical plants will amaze even the manliest of men. We couldn't have picked a better place to stay while in Costa Rica and will definitely be coming back in the future.
