We stayed here for several nights this July. The owners were very friendly and helpful, the location is great (very close to beaches and boat launches), and we all got a good night’s sleep. The accommodations were great.
Highly recommend this location!
The place is a little dated but is a nice place to stay for a base camp for exploring the area. The host are super nice and very accommodating. Would definitely stay here again!
The cottage was homey and well-appointed. Mattresses could be softer for our tastes, futon and couch were very comfortable though. Owners very nice and accommodating, neighborhood very cool with nearby DNR boat and kayak launch and park with nature trails.
Location is absolutely perfect. So easy to visit other areas (restaurants and attractions) that are north and south, but simply ideal for visiting Lake Michigan.
The host are truly amazing. Always willing to help make my stay as comfortable as possible.
Will definitely be back to visit.
I felt the location was great. In between Manistee and Frankfort. A short drive in either direction was fine for us.
The hosts are the sweetest people!
My only complaint was the bed was terribly uncomfortable. But, the couch is a futon and the mattress was great, so we slept in the living room.
Really enjoyed my trip!
The guest house is small but serves the purpose of a place to sleep, shower, and cook meals. Its a short drive (5 minutes) to a nice sandy beach on Lake Michigan. The guest house isnt on Portage Lake but the main house (where the hosts live) is on the water and they invited us to use their patio and access the lake if we wanted to. The hosts are very kind and welcoming.

We felt very welcomed by our hosts. They welcomed us to come by 2:15 instead of waiting till 4:00 since they did not have guests earlier that that day. Our beds were ready, Every thing was clean. There was fresh spring water in the refrigerator for us. They welcomed our dog too which was a blessing. The price was right.
The property was exactly as described. My husband and I had a wonderful time with are two dogs. Carol and Walt felt like family from the moment we met them.
The Cottage is adorable with all the necessary amenities to make our stay perfect. We were a two minute drive to Lake Michigan and spent our days soaking up the sun with our doggies. We arrive before the summer season so the town was not 'open' however it was a blast.
My hubbie and I already plan on returning for a longer stay. Thank you Carol for being so fantastic. We are so grateful to have met you!

We stayed here as a family with our 13, 8, and 7 year olds. There was room enough to spread out with a regular bedroom and a converted garage bunk room. The house is as described with vintage appliances, but all the amenities you could need. The main bed was hard for us adults to sleep on, so we took turns with the couch and futon. Nice TV with Netflix for evening relax time. The nearby beach on Lake Michigan was beautiful and a very short drive away. The property itself was on a quiet road with minimal cars. Very quiet and relaxing!
Property owners went above and beyond with making sure we were satisfied. They even baked homemade blueberry muffins and served them warm to us. We would stay there again.
What a perfect location, whereby one could experience "lake life" and close enough to enjoy the surrounding communities and everything they offer. This "home away from home was truly such a delight and very comfortable property for a get-away vacation. Such wonderful host that actually made you feel as if you were long time friends. I would recommend to anyone looking for a special time in the Lake Michigan area.
The house was very nice and well maintained. The hosts went above and beyond to make us feel welcome and comfortable. They were very gracious of our German Shepherd and welcomed him every time they saw him. We were looking for a place to recover from hip surgery, that was close to everywhere we wanted to go. We truly love this quaint cottage and the hosts that became friends.
