Readfield/Maranacook Lake cottage with dock and plenty of privacy!
(Previously listed as property #4202072 with a 4 star rating.)
When my brother and I were little our parents, Stan and Sylvia, built this rustic cottage on the shores of Maranacook Lake. They created a space where our family could build treasured memories. We’re keeping the property in the family and invite you to build your own memories here too.
This private, rustic cottage is a perfect Maine lake getaway, tucked in the trees but close to all the amenities of modern life. Wifi and a washing machine just make it easier to enjoy fresh blueberries off the bushes on the shore. The loons and bass love the lake as much as you will enjoy watching wildlife or fishing.

This cabin had everything we needed and more. We loved that it was private, and spacious and we could enjoy our family and friends without interruption. Having the boat dock for our boat was great. We got great use of the swimming platform and even fishing off the dock was good. This cabin was described exactly how we expected. Hope to be back next year!!
This is our second year renting this spot and our family just loves it. The water was great — we didn’t use their canoe but brought our own kayaks and paddleboards and the kids just loved the floating dock. Thanks for another great trip to camp!
It is a rustic cabin, it has most everything you need. It did not have oil which would have been helpful.
The ladder is very slippery, the lake bottom is all rocks and weeds hard to get into and out of. The water was some what warm, and depending on the day, boat traffic, Sun ect, seeing the bottom past a few feet was tough, the water has a tint to it, but otherwise is clean.
It is on a quiet street, you have a good size lot, a big fire pit, no close neighbors to the left, only on the right.
If you are there for fishing or solitude this is a great place for that. It is remote and not near much attractions. WiFi worked okay, once you get the air going it will keep it cool in the cabin. I suggest bringing a few fans to help blow it out into the living area and the bunk room, which was too warm. It was okay for us, minus some cut from rocks and bruise from slippery ladder steps. We enjoyed the fire Pit once we bought some wood, and swimming and or kayaking everyday, even in the rain. There is a canoe there, it is a bit rough, so we did not use it. Having a washer was nice, but hard to dry clothes outside when it rains most days.
The beds and furniture were not comfortable. The bedding was very nice though.
Perfect all week long. Fantastic weather. Great summer deck. Warm water. walks in the woods. Excellent food at the woodshed in Manchester. Very convenient location. Had a super good Vaca. TY.
Enjoyed our stay, beautiful sunrises and very shady. Enjoyed the privacy.
Beds were a little uncomfortable and windows didn't open for fresh air but a/c was helpful.
Grill was very dirty but cleaned it up.
Our stay here was wonderful. Beautiful spot on the lake. Everything was so comfortable and the location felt private and quiet (despite our loud children!) We loved sitting on the porch or by the firepit at night listening to the loons. The floating dock was a favorite of our kids. We did lots of fishing, swimming and canoeing. The owner was very communicative and responsive throughout our stay. We would definitely return!
My family had a wonderful time at the camp. With one exception, the deck. My elderly father sat in a chair and the leg (of the chair) went through a rotted part of the deck causing him to fall. Overall the deck is in need of repair for guest safety.

Not what was expected-
We love Maine camps- they do not have to be perfect- but they have to have better bones than this one did-
Positives- location (end of dirt road), yard (clean and nice) dock (nicely set up)- and swimming area (great access to a float) were all super positive, fun and what we hoped for. No issue there.
But, there were issues- we need WiFi- it was out- the entire time- and we volunteered to wait during the stay for the cable company (Spectrum) to show- they didn't-so lost a 1/2 day there not the owners fault but should have been checked for usability PRIOR to us arriving.
Because it was never repaired we had to leave early to do work when we could have done it during our stay.
Did not find the camp super clean and it was damp- it rained but more so the house is in the shadows and just doesn't ever dry out- there is A/C (portable units) we should have probably tried to use them.
Toliet condensates --this moisture and has a chronic puddle around it because it's old it "runs" downhill.
Umbrella was broken. Hopefully they fix.
Rug was awful- dampness + soiled rug-ugh.
It was only 2 of us- supposed to hold 8-10 not sure that would be wise.
Could use some TLC to be positive- shared this info with the owner- if the correct it's great, if not.....well...

Location is nice camp needs a little TLC
The location of the property was nice. Easy access to the boat launch.
The kitchen was well stocked with dishes, silverware, pots and pans and other items you may need.
The property is in need of some repairs. Use caution on the deck as there are some soft boards. We ended up repairing both screen doors that broke after one day of being there.
The property does not seemed to be throughly cleaned in between each rental. There were dirty clothes found in the corner of the master bedroom behind the portable air conditioner.
The check out list requires you to clean the property and leave it ready for the next family. If you run out of an item such as paper towels or toilet paper, you are asked to purchase and leave some for the next guest arriving.
Overall the stay was nice, we enjoyed relaxing on the lake and sitting by the camp fire.

Nice camp
Our family had a good time staying on the lake. Very private. Lots of amenities not listed on the site including master bedroom AC which was a plus. Kids loved the docks. Only minuses were master bedroom bed was not comfortable at all but kids slept great in the loft. Very limited cloths storage space. Close to Augusta for kid activities on rainy days. Overall we had a good time and the host was very responsive to questions.
I live in Maine and go camping, so I'm used to roughing it, but my wife and family were not impressed with the cleanliness and things needing repair. If you see this location for what it truly is, you won't be disappointed. The spot was quiet, relaxed and private.
This rental has everything you need, and fantastic property managers. Shaded yard, clean shore, wifi, AC. Close to local market and restaurant.

About the host
Hosted by Brook
The story goes that when I was a baby boy, my parents put me in a bread basket to sleep while they helped build this cottage. My older brother swears it's true and I believe him. My wife and I live far away now but we're taking care of the cottage to keep it in the family. We still visit whenever we can, and we welcome you to share our special place on the lake in Maine.
Why they chose this property
Life on the lake is private, but the town of Readfield is only a short walk or drive away. For more services, Augusta and Lewiston-Auburn are just a short drive.
The most convenient way to travel is by car. Augusta Airport is 12 miles away and Webb and Sons can arrange transportation. There is a taxi service in Manchester and some Uber and Lyft drivers based in Augusta.
