Darlene was an excellent host! Unit was very clean and quiet during our stay. Beautiful sunrises and sunsets in a quiet rural setting!

The Casita is an amazing property. When we arrived, Steve met us outside and showed us to the room, which is a private mother-in-law style suite attached to the house. The room was extremely clean and thoughtfully organized, including a couch, office space with a printer, coffee, microwave, toaster, fridge, and laundry. The bathroom was stocked with everything you could possibly need. The area was quiet through the afternoon and evening, with amazing views. I highly recommend staying at the Casita!

Liked: Cleanliness, communication, location
A little too dog friendly
Pros: big room, clean, full-sized bathroom, mini fridge and microwave, TV with sleep timer, close to National Parks (1.5-1.45 hours to Bryce, Zion or North Rim of Grand Canyon) plus many other attractions in the area, dog friendly room, scenic property, animals (dogs, horses, chickens, sheep) on property, mostly quiet
Cons: dogs barking a lot, especially in the early mornings or when the owners were not home, bed was a little too hard for my taste, room smelled a bit when you entered it, it would have been nice to offer real cutlery instead of plastic.
DO NOT BOOK HERE! NO REFUNDS AVAILABLE FROM VRBO EITHER!
Read details of *some* issues below if desired-
On arrival we were told of aggressive dog on the property that bit her husband (as she said- "badly")- not what we signed up for!
Despite being explicitly told that we could leave our dog unattended, she ENTERED OUR ROOM WITH NO WARNING OR PERMISSION while we were gone (sending photos!). She berated us via text message that we needed to pay her to watch our dog (HARD PASS and quite the creative scam- list cheaper and force expensive dog care!), or crate him all day going forward.
Her concern via text message was that he was barking in the past hour- crating him will not prevent that issue. Lots of holes in her pretend for concern about our dog, so please read her potential response that will come with a grain of salt.
Oh- fun fact! I'm a veterinarian of 15 years out of Boston- DO NOT TRUST HER TO WATCH YOUR DOG OR HER PET ADVICE. It's not wise to enter a room with a dog that you don't know- especially if you have the ability to directly contact the owner, but actively choose not to. We have no idea what she did or did not do to our dog while we were gone! She also left a bowl of chocolates on the table in the room- NOT dog smart.
We left that first night despite having many days booked- the Vrbo representative on the phone said they would contact the owner and supported our choice to leave, and told us we did not have to interact with her anymore. We sent text message screen shots as requested via our case number.
Just spent hours on the phone to follow up with Vrbo who will not give us any refund AT ALL- and insists that we call the owner ourselves and get it sorted out. Despite the fact that when she entered, we could have been in the shower, sleeping, changing, our dog could have run out, the fact that she was rude- they do not care- you have no protection with Vrbo. Even though they explicitly say that invasion of privacy is not tolerated on their website, they do not care. GIVE US A FULL REFUND VRBO! GIVE US OUR MONEY BACK DARLENE!
There is also a door without a lock on it that the table is in front of- pretty sure that is a direct unlocked passage into their home- if you think you are getting your own independent place- you certainly are not! Do not stay here! We never would have booked if we knew it was going to be like this.
I stayed at The Casita in Fredonia for a quick getaway trip with my 2 youngest kids (tween girl and teen son) and we loved it! The space is new, beautiful, adorable, and very clean! We felt like we were in a hotel room and had everything we needed. The beds are SO comfortable! The full-sized bathroom was perfect for the 3 of us too. The Casita is conveniently only minutes south of Kanab (where we spent most of our time) and about 1-2 miles north of the Fredonia town center, yet it feels very rural and has beautiful desert views. Darlene and Steve are the nicest people and hosts and they were so easy to communicate with. They run a horse and dog pet resort and boarding business and, ironically, my kids and I are actually kind of scared of dogs. But our hosts reassured us that the dogs are always on leash when out, or in their large kennels, and also let us know the times that the dogs go out to potty. We had zero issues! They were so responsible with the dogs and we rarely even heard any barking, and never while we were sleeping. We definitely recommend The Casita! ❤
