Our home is powered by one of the largest home solar plus battery projects in California with an onsite microgrid. Great area for hiking and mountain biking.

You will enjoy entertaining on the deck with an outdoor kitchen and spa that offer amazing lake views. For wine enthusiasts, there is a hobby vineyard featuring Cab and Merlot varietals on approx. 2/3 acre. Bring all your toys because there are two 5-acre easements for lake access located nearby.

We have a large floating dock that you can tie your boat to, fish off of or enjoy some swimming.

Great weekend escape

Nowhere near anything, which was exactly what I wanted. Simple, quiet, and peaceful. Patio area is super luxe, great views, great sunrises, and awesome for stargazing.

Beauty and Quiet

We picked a perfect time for our stay; The trees in and around the property were ablaze with color. The quiet was calming and restorative ( no city noises at all!) The host was super kind and responsive. Highly recommended. Bring ALL your food! It's a long drive to the nearest shops, but for us that was a plus.

End of Summer Lake Trip

My husband and I stayed for 3 days to celebrate his 65th birthday. We enjoyed being close to the lake and loved using the dock which had kayaks, chairs, a grill, fishing poles, and shade. We were there during the week and mostly had the entire area to ourselves. We saw lots of deer, a snake, rabbits, and two bald eagles. It is quite out of the way -- we were able to find the place ok but road construction the next day was a worry as our son was supposed to come up and it wasn't clear whether he could get through. He ended up getting by using detours but got lost for quite a while with limited cell service. We brought our dog which worked out well and the apartment was small but fine for us. The area was very pretty and peaceful and we hope to return next summer.

Getaway

We were looking for a place to see meteorite shower. Their private dock on lake was perfect. Gracious host. Nice property. Perfect location to visit wineries we like. It is a drive back in. But, great directions. It’s an upper apartment. So, there are stairs. Great price !

Lake fun

Wonderful views of the Lake and bonus that we were able to launch our 16’ fishing boat there and use the dock space. Come with all your food ( we did as was mentioned in the listing), cuz it’s a long way to anywhere (by car)! Loved the weekend get away.

Perfect to disconnect

We loved this place!!! Just disconnect and enhoy nature. The dock is relaxing. I read a good vook and hubby fished nost of the day and had some decent catches. It is an adventure but just when u think you arent going the right way you see the road ends sign and then you know you are were you are supposed to be going. We will definitely book again. Perfect to just disconnect and relax. Thank you Mitch and Judy for sharing your place.

Very respectable host

We had to cancel our stay last minute due to unforeseen circumstances, but the host was very understanding and even revised our booking to a shorter visit to help reduce the charges. I really appreciate the responsiveness to our communications and helping us out even though we were the ones who had to cancel.

Loved it!

The property was beautiful and I loved the cozy little studio. Great place to stay if you are planning to visit many of the local wineries. We did have friends staying at the local campground and there is quite a commute to the campground. However, even with that, had a fantastic time and enjoyed the property.

Living Green in a Beautiful Location

My wife and I had booked the location to celebrate my birthday and had made reservations for an event at a "local" (45 minutes) Paso Robles winery to celebrate same. Due to circumstances beyond the owner's control (weather), we were not able to attend our event because the run-off that flows across the main entrance to the property had risen above our vehicle's undercarriage not only preventing us from attending the scheduled function but, delaying our departure by 24 hours. The property is well-maintained and the host is available to address questions. I seem to recall the original listing touted the fact (to paraphrase), "The property is 100% 'green' and offers the opportunity to experience same." In that regard, it would be difficult to recommend "going green" as our experience was disappointing. Upon our arrival Friday afternoon, we noted the hot water temperature was scalding HOT. Saturday afternoon as I was showering it went from scalding to very cold within two minutes of the start of my shower and, even after our host "changed the batteries for the hot water heater", still no hot water available. The host is extremely accurate to recommend guests arrive during daylight hours . . . I did so and still had some challenges.

Perfect rural getaway

This was a perfect accommodation for a weekend getaway. There is a well stocked kitchen in terms of pots/pans/dishes and guests have access to an impressive outdoor kitchen area. The hosts are incredibly kind and welcoming. It is in a very rural area, which I think the hosts make clear in preparing guests in terms of the benefits of arriving during the day, bringing sufficient food supplies, and making sure you have enough gas. We stayed in winter and did not make use of the lake; however, it is very close to the lake of which they have amazing views.

Remote lakeside getaway tucked away in the hills

A quiet, rural setting in the hills surrounding Lake Nacimiento. Great if you want to get away from city traffic and bustle - it's almost an hour drive from the city on winding hilly roads, but a short walk to the lakeshore and surrounded by nature. Treacherous and confusing drive on narrow winding roads. Definitely make the drive during daylight hours! You'll receive very detailed driving directions when you book. PRINT THEM OUT! Cell reception is spotty throughout the drive, and you really don't want to be on these roads without the directions. Also, fill up on gas and get your groceries before starting on the rural roads. The property itself is a detached apartment beside the hosts' main home with a well-equipped kitchen and a good espresso machine. The hosts' grill, smoker, BBQ pit, and hot tub are available for guests. I spent plenty of time in the hot tub - it's A-OK! The hosts (Mitch and Judy) are kind, responsive and accommodating - they will happily help you with anything you need - coffee, supplies, and ideas on things to see and do nearby. Overall, it was a fun getaway for the 3 days I was there. Great if you're looking for a quiet and remote place where you can take it easy and get back to nature for a few days.

Quiet place for nice stay

It was a lot of work to get to the property since there was a road closure and no signal on the way. The property owner was good with communication and showed us around the property. The place is quiet and has an amazing view. I wish there was something to do nearby but mostly everything is far away. We did notice a musty smell when we entered but got used to it. This place is perfect if you want to get away and relax by the lake.

Great apartment In beautiful place

Host was very generous and accommodating. Great hike down to the lake and back, amazing grill area at the house and down on the dock. Kitchen was very well stocked with pots, pans, knives, and utensils. The bed is full sized, so maybe a bit small for some. The fancy espresso maker was the frosting on the cake!

About the host

Hosted by Mitchell Samuelian

Host profile image
Judy and I moved here in 2021 and have been updating the property ever since. We have beautiful landscaping, a vineyard, a Koi pond, and an extensive solar system powering everything, including our well.

We both work in the renewable industry as executives, so are able to work from home when we are not traveling.

Why they chose this property

Rural communities have a strong sense of community because we often have to pull together to help each other since even simple things like grocery or hardware stores can be relatively far away.

We enjoy the friendships and community we are a part of. We love that we can see the stars (there is no light pollution), that we know our neighbors, and that there is always a project to work on.

The Lake is a wonderful bonus, and being able to spend some downtime relaxing on our dock or out on the boat enjoying the beautiful weather our areas offers helps us recharge.

What makes this property unique

The entire property is 13 acres and is in a very remote setting. There is a full kitchen in the apartment, full access to an outdoor kitchen, and a separate grill on the dock, but there are no take-out or delivery options. You can genuinely forget the rat race exists. The Hilltop Retreat is in a separate building from our home. We have a small vineyard, our own dock on the lake, and spectacular views. We respect our guest's privacy, but we have also made some new friends and shared a glass of wine on the expansive deck.
