About this property

Secluded Mountain Home on 40 acres - 360 degree views!

Southwestern style home sits on 40 acres bordering public land at 7200 feet in elevation. It offers 3 bedrooms and 3 baths. All bedrooms have king-size beds. 360 degree views include unobstructed views of the San Juan Mountains, the Uncompaghre Valley and a massive ridge marking the southern border of the Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park. This end-of-the-road home is private, peaceful and secluded - yet only 12 miles from Montrose. The property is mostly forested in pinion pine, juniper, and Gambel oak. Wildlife viewing out every window (turkey, bald eagles, deer, elk, coyote) is exceptional. Hike the forests, hills and ravines right here on the property. Rock climb, kayak, fish and off-road right nearby. The entry to the national park is 2.3 miles up the road. The area has an international "dark sky" designation, so the stars are incredible and we even have a telescope for viewing! The "barndominium" is a fun and rustic bonus space for a game of poker or hanging out with friends. There are three relaxing outdoor living spaces to take in the views and the changing light from sunrise to sunset - a covered front porch on the north, a back patio on the south and a deck in the pasture off of the barndominium. Throw some darts and axes, play corn hole or horse shoes, sip some wine, play board games, stretch out in the hammock and take in the never-ending vistas. If you want peace and tranquility, you have found it here! If you need to get some work done, both of the upstairs bedrooms have a desk and can be used as dedicated workspace.

Our home is pet-free and smoke-free. We live here part of the year, so you will find that the home is very well appointed. All utilities are included. We are open to leases of 1-4 months between May 1 and August 30 for up to 4 people. $5000/month. Refundable security deposit is $1,000 and application fee is $40.

About the host

Host profile image
My husband and I are retired educators and are fortunate to own two homes - this one in Montrose CO and another one in Nashville TN. We have two adult children who live in Nashville. We love sharing the beauty of our homes and communities with others (if you are interested in a Nashville adventure - let me know!). We love antiquing, reading, watching the wildlife, driving in the mountains and picnics with wine by the river.

Why they chose this property

If you want to feel like you are totally away from the rest of the world and everything going on, this is it. You'll be living amidst nature, yet with all the creature comforts of home - luxurious beds, dark nights, flickering flames, wildlife (like a Disney movie), celestial night skies, biblical sunsets and quiet (like, the silence is deafening kind of quiet). Plenty of room to spread out and relax, both indoors and outdoors.

What makes this property unique

We turned a third of our barn into a "barndominium" and set up a living room and poker table in there. Whether you want to play poker, beer pong or hang out by lantern light, the barndominium transports you to a totally different space altogether!
