About this property

Historic BREECHES POCKET- Immaculate,Civil W Era Log Cabin/ House Gettysburg; DC

Nestled in the foothills of Catoctin National Park (home of the Presidential Retreat Camp David), this home is near Gettysburg and other historic locations.
It is not just a cabin in the woods—it is a home that took two years of great carpentry and masonry work.
This historic (circa 1860) log home was relocated and rebuilt, piece by piece, in 2003. A new addition contains a kitchen, bathrooms, bedrooms and sunroom.
Located on the historic "Saint Elizabeth" (circa 1745) farm property, 1500 feet from our farmhouse, the cabin was remodeled as a luxury, upscale guesthouse, using the finest materials and craftsmanship, including handmade pieces by owner and resident wood-maker, Bill Eyler.
Cheerful and cozy, there is nothing 'rough' about this home. It boasts great views and privacy and is only minutes from food markets, restaurants, and countless activities, from hiking and skiing to ghost tours, wineries, and Civil War monuments.
This is a property for the discriminating traveler who desires the highest quality. Please look for the blue mailboxes and gristmill "wheel" at the entrance to the property.
We attempt to make your stay as comfortable as possible, and you will always find this home in top condition and working order. Please visit with us and give us your thoughts—we know they will be happy ones.
All towels and linens are supplied, and the kitchen is fully stocked.

Beautiful home, convenient location

This beautiful home was built by the owners and is tastefully decorated as well as nicely maintained. The location makes it extremely convenient for day trips to surrounding towns such as Frederick, Harper's Ferry and Gettysburg. The home is comfortable and can easily accommodate a large group. The hosts are very responsive. We enjoyed our stay and would rebook if we were to return to the area.

Host was great!

Had a great stay. Please make sure to read the fine print about the house set up. The host is honest about it but I booked quickly and didn't notice - you have to walk thru 1 bedroom upstairs to get to the other, and same downstairs. House was nice and clean and had everything we needed. The host was great and even mailed back some items that we accidentally left behind!

Lovely renovated historic home

The house and grounds are wonderful. The house is cozy, beautifully furnished, and comfortable. There are plenty of places to spread out in the living room and sunroom as well as several outdoor areas in good weather. We enjoyed happy hour and games on the side deck. The grounds are secluded and beautiful. Highly recommend this property.

Friends and family meetin'. We were visiting Frederick and Gettysburg.

Beautiful history in the home as well as the area. This was a 3 day trip for gal friends to visit and see Gettysburg, PA and Frederick, MD. We spent most of our time enjoying the sitting areas within the home. The weather outside was 90 degrees so we missed out on enjoying the outside spaces for coffee in the a.m. Lovely home. So homey, eclectic and clean. Christine was a great hostess. We missed out on meeting Charles. His hard work on building this beautiful home was evident thru out. was and did not get to

Amazing

This is such an amazing property! Be sure to check the books in the sitting room about it's history! Quiet, beautiful and the hosts were just the nicest people. We are from the West Coast and we are not sure we will ever make it back to this immediate area, but if we were, we would definitely try to get this house again.

Breeches Pocket delivers yet again

We had a great time this past weekend. We've come here nearly 10 times and everything is always in great condition. One item I hadn't noticed before is the very guest-friendly check-out policy. Official check-out time is 11:30, which is a relief from other rentals where you have to race out the door first thing in the morning. Also, Chris/Bill have limited/reasonable expectations for items to take care of at check-out. Hope to stay here again soon!

About the host

Hosted by Bill or Chris

Host profile image
Chris and Bill built this home in 2003 to move into while they renovated their existing farmhouse, a 1794 Moravian brick/stone home in which they have lived for 47 years. This log structure (crib) was to be burned but was rescued by Bill and Chris.
It features 'Perma Chink'--a finish between the logs that is flexible and insulated. The home is airtight and fresh, using original materials whenever possible.
The trim details are period-contemporary and most guests appreciate the effort it took to build such a structure. It also features a new fire Pit.
Please note: We have a three-day minimum stay in the summer season.

Why they chose this property

This home is furnished as an upscale guest house with excellent artwork, comfortable beds and furniture, and a true ambiance of relaxation. The home has things people love-- close to the woods, toys for kids, plenty of parking, different levels of the home to "get away", a firepit, a porch, and a paved parking area. It feels like home. We have a three-day minimum stay in the summer season.
A new Fire Pit!
