Liked: Cleanliness, check-in
Disliked: Communication, location, listing accuracy
Deceptive listing, the AC didn't work, and owner is not rationale.
The property is listed as being located in the Pinery; it isn't although he does own an empty lot there which you can stay on if being in the Pinery is important which it was to me. It is also listed as being near a horse park. "Near" is a subjective term, but we couldn't find a horse park near the house but there is a nice kiddie park across the street.
The house itself is very nice and is just like the pictures. When we checked in, we noticed that it was very warm upstairs but assumed that the AC had just been turned on and was still cooling off. When we returned to the house at around 11:30pm, it was over 80 degrees upstairs, so we opened all of the windows in hopes of cooling off and being able to sleep.
We were there for a family reunion and there was some confusion on who was staying where and too many people were staying at my sister's house which actually is in the Pinery. Since it was near midnight, I suggested that the extra guests could just come to the house as it is large enough to accommodate all of them easily.
I intended to contact the owner the next day about the extra guests, but at 6am the next morning the owner was texting me telling me that i have to pay him an additional amount slightly below the amount that I had already paid for 3 nights through Venmo and not VRBO, or he would send the property manager over to kick everyone out.
I tried to rationalize how extra guests would drive up his costs by more than $1500 in three days and offered to pay a fair price, but he simply stated that we will use more water and the house will be more difficult to clean. I contacted VRBO and the owner then dropped down the price by a couple of hundred dollars. Since we felt like we were being held for ransom and were not able to relocate the additional guests, we paid the exorbitant fee.
We struggled with the AC for the entire stay. There is only one unit, and it just was not able to cool 3200 square feet and the upstairs. Although cool air was coming out of the vents, you had to lay down and put your face on the vent to feel it. We had to open the windows at night since the 81-degree ambient temperature outside was cooler than the inside temperature. We were never really there during the day and never even cooked any food. All we wanted was a cool place to sleep and to shower.
I would stay at the house again if there was a different owner and the AC was working even though the location was not as listed in the advertisement.
