About this property

Oceanfront Tree House

There is no better place to experience the peace, quiet and unsurpassed natural beauty of Nicaragua's 'Pacific Riviera' than in this unique 'tree house' in the private gated development of Redonda Bay. The house features a large deck built around a huge native 'Panama Tree,' the perfect spot for sipping a morning cup of coffee or afternoon Sangria.

There are great views from each window, whether of the ocean, cove, hillside or pool. The view from the bedrooms truly makes you feel as if you're living in the Swiss Family Robinson tree house. Perched on the hillside, the house offers seclusion and privacy, with only our occasional guests, the howler monkeys, to keep you company.

From the tree deck as well as from the separate deck around the private pool, you can see and hear crashing waves in the cove below, glimpse the coastline of Costa Rica, and take in spectacular sunsets. The shaded hillside lot stays cool year round, and is pleasantly landscaped with flowers and vines. Redonda Beach--a five-minute walk from the house--offers beach-combing, snorkeling, sunbathing and swimming in a sheltered bay. Fishing or excursions to a variety of beaches (several featuring world class surfing) can be arranged in nearby Gigante. Hike and explore the village and sandy beaches, and maybe even witness turtle migrations!

Cook in the fully equipped kitchen, barbecue on the deck or enjoy the excellent and inexpensive local seafood and other cuisine at neighboring beachfront restaurants, just a 10-minute drive or 30-minute walk in Gigante. You can also enjoy a healthy meal and cool drink at Aqua Resort (Coconut's Beach Bar & Grill) (especially after 10pm)on Redonda Beach, a very short walk from the house. There is no dishwasher, but the view from the kitchen window makes it a pleasant chore. Excursions to nearby sites can be arranged by our property manager, and water sports equipment rental is available. Spa treatments can also be arranged at the adjacent Aqua Spa & Resort. Be as lazy or as active as you desire. To respect your privacy, housekeeping isn't scheduled except before and after your stay, but can be arranged on request by contacting our property manager Gerald.

Nicaragua is a unique destination--discover it in style and comfort at this equally unique ocean front home.

NOTE: No parties, weddings or events are allowed at Redonda Bay. A no noise or loud music policy is in place at all times (especially after 10pm), including at the beach, and renters are required to observe the maximum number of persons allowed per house. Additional day guests are NOT allowed. These rules are strictly enforced and renters run the risk of eviction for non-compliance.

Great Location!

We stayed for 8 days here and overall it was great. Gerald, the property manager was extremely responsive. The location is ideal, you can walk 5 minutes to the beach and beach bar. We had a car which was ideal for us to go to Playa Gigante (you can also walk on a path through the trees about 15 minutes). The house was nice but is in need of some up-keep. The air conditioner leaks onto the wood and into the kitchen sink and the master bathroom shower did not have cold water (we let Gerald know but it was never fixed). While the monkeys were entertaining to watch they often used the pool as their bathroom (while it got cleaned, it is difficulty to keep up on) which meant we did not feel comfortable using the pool,

Monkey heaven

Great house nestled in the trees overlooking the Pacific. Nice expansive deck with plenty of shade. Woke up to the sounds of birds and Howler Monkeys. Had monkey visits almost daily with a family of monkeys deciding to take a mid day nap right in front of the deck. Amazing.

Wildlife watcher's bliss

This is a unique home under a giant Panama tree that puts you at eye level with the canopy and all it's inhabitants. Howler monkeys traverse the treetops while a woodpecker family feeds its chicks, and the silly magpie-jays check you out. This is a great spot for bird and monkey watching so don't forget the binoculars. The beautiful beach with calm waters is a 5 min walk. Lots of steps here -- you get your workout in. I loved the yoga deck on the beach and the walking path to Playa Gigante. I spent most of my time reading on the shaded deck under the giant tree and listening to the sounds of the crashing waves below, taking breaks to cool off in the refreshing pool or a walk to the beach for a swim. Slept well, comfy bed, AC upstairs and hot showers. Very relaxing, comfortable, quiet, and safe place. I appreciated Gerald the manager being there for anything I needed and frequently checking in by text. Hope to visit again soon!

Great Location

This tree house is in a great location. If you want tranquility and relaxation, this area is great. You will see lots of animal life here. At the moment there is one restaurant in the aqua resort (a bit pricey). I advice cooking some meals in the house. No AC in common areas. But large decks. Great outdoor space!!

A Scenic Escape- Beauty Beyond Compare!

It’s hard to put our trip into words. This is our second time having the pleasure of staying in this extraordinary house that exceeded all my expectations. From the moment I arrived, I was captivated by the stunning views that surrounded the property. Whether it was the breathtaking sunsets or the picturesque landscape, every moment spent on the balcony felt like a scene from a postcard. Monkeys and birds to meet us every morning! The house itself was beautifully designed, combining comfort with modern elegance. Each room was spacious and thoughtfully decorated, making it feel like a true home away from home. The amenities provided were top-notch, ensuring that my stay was as relaxing as possible. What truly made the experience unforgettable, however, were the hosts. They were warm, welcoming, and went above and beyond to ensure that my stay was perfect. From providing local recommendations to checking in to see if I needed anything, (even bringing us coffee in the morning as we arrived very late) their hospitality was unparalleled. It felt like I was visiting friends rather than staying in a rental.Overall, I can’t recommend this house enough. If you’re looking for a serene getaway with stunning views and amazing hosts, look no further. I can’t wait to return!

Beautiful, secluded jungle house

Wow! We had such an amazing time! We have stayed at several houses in Costa Rica and Nicaragua, and this was our favorite. It’s beautiful, clean, felt very safe, was quiet and relaxing, and the manager Gerald made sure we had absolutely everything we needed. Kitchen is well stocked. Private neighborhood beach is only a short walk. And we loved venturing out to Playa Gigante and Playa Popoyo for other beaches and restaurants. The pool is private and so fun to enjoy on a hot day or in the evenings. Lots of deck space for outdoor meals. Bedrooms had good A/C. Would definitely stay here again! Highly recommend for families, small group, or anyone looking to escape and have a lovely time.

Tree house

We had a great time at the house and the hosts were extremely helpful and so nice. Some things like the bedding and towels could use an upgrade but the view is amazing and the tree house feeling special. The beach down at Redonda Bay is a nice bay with a good restaurant right on the sand.

Hanging with monkeys

My partner and I stayed here at the end of our little 10 day Nica excursion. The area is beautiful and you are literally right in the jungle but with all the creature comforts. We spent one morning watching four monkeys right off the balcony. Do yourself a favor and make sure you check out the bay. It's one of the most beautiful beaches I've ever seen. Depending on your timing you may even see some seaturtles hatching. We would absolutely stay here again.

1st World Comfort, Nature and Culture

My husband, two daughters and I spent a couple weeks last winter in the Guanacaste region of Costa Rica. We had a great time, but it was expensive (sunscreen was $20), so this year we gave Nicaragua a try. Flying from Calgary to Nicaragua would have involved at least one layover, twenty hours of airport/airplane time and big bucks. Fortunately, Westjet has a direct, affordable flight to Liberia, Costa Rica. We stepped off the plane at 6am, took a shuttle to the border crossing at Penas Blancas (about 1.25 hr drive), walked across the border (about twenty minutes), picked up our rental car on the Nica side of the border and were settling into treehouse paradise before noon the same day. Our 11 and 12 yr old daughters took one look at the pool deck, whooped with joy and disappeared to find their bathing suits. The pool became a favourite morning and evening hangout. The huge tree incorporated into the upper deck provides partial shade most of the day, making the pool a great place to read a book and stay cool. As for the house - it was everything we hoped it would be. The air conditioning in the bedrooms was a blessing and the kitchen had everything we needed to self-cater. The restaurant at the adjacent Aqua Wellness Resort was excellent, but out of our price range except when I was feeling really lazy! I spent mornings on the upper deck drinking coffee, listening to the howlers and watching parakeets streak across the sky at warp speed. Evenings were spent in the hammock with a book and a Tona. The beach is beautiful, quiet and there was always a lounger or a hammock available. We visited a couple times a day, playing in the surf and the sand. We tried snorkelling but couldn't see a thing. Every afternoon when it was too hot to think, we went for a drive. This is when we saw the real Nicaragua: kids hauling water from wells in front of schools, sabaneros herding cattle on the highway, men making bricks for their tin-roofed shacks. After four days at the treehouse we headed north to Finca del Mar https://www.vrbo.com/373170 and Granada before returning to the Vaught rental for our last five nights. We put 1100 km on our rental car. Careful to drive only during the day (four legged transport is still common and livestock free range) we experienced the vibrant sights and smells of Granada's markets, swam in a volcano crater and practised our bad Spanish. I would love to go back!

Uncomfortable Smallish House, Misleading Photos, Poor Beach

This is the first time I have written a bad review for a place I have stayed at. First of all, except of the living room, there wasn't a comfortable chair in the place or none at all. No chair in the master bedroom, although plenty of room for one. Photo of very small "dining table" on deck between the tree limbs is extremely misleading and set up for a photo shoot in my opinion. Only two small wooden stools there, not enough room for 4 chairs, which would be too short to sit and eat at comfortably anyway. We like to eat outside and the photo was one of the things that drew me to this house. No chairs at the pool area whatsoever. More misleading photos. as one has to sit on a large concrete bench with no backing. The two blue lounges shown at the pool were actually on the upper deck and had monkey feces on them when we arrived. Could see other stains as well, so we really didn't want to use them. The small patio furniture were the only places to sit, which were also uncomfortable. Kitchen was very small with old , smallish and rusted refrigerator. Bring everything you need including salt, pepper and cooking oil. The ocean views are very filtered, although it is certainly a natural tree canopy setting, and the wooden house is pretty. The master bedroom air conditioner leaked through onto the kitchen floor below, which I reported to caretaker. I hope the owner fixes that quickly as the wood will rot... Not a place for mobility challenged folks with about 30 larger steps from the driveway to the house and the 5 minute hillside walk down to and up from the beach. I live outside of Managua and I must say that Redonda Bay was just about the most disappointed beach/bay I have seen in Nicaragua. The small light brownish/grey beach is about 150 yards long with some some rocks in the surf line, so wear water shoes. When we were there, there were waves breaking and current so almost no one was at the beach or in the water during this Easter week time frame. Granted it was during the hot, dry time of year, but the surrounding bay rocks and hillside were brown and unattractive and wouldn't change much in the green time, or tiempo verde. I am writing this because I have read all of the "wonderful" reviews and wish to give a differing opinion for those whose may travel far to experience Nicaragua's beautiful Emerald Coast. It is, however a very safe and natural setting. Gerald was great, and the house comfort is fixable to a degree.

Magical location!

This house was very unique and lovely. We had a memorable vacation and certainly got our exercise. There are many steps to climb between the house and the beach but it was worth it. I loved the views from the porch and seeing the howler monkeys in the trees above one morning made my day. Thank you for a memorable vacation!

First Time to Nicaragua. What a beautiful property .

My husband and I really enjoyed our stay at the tree house. We went to Rancho Santana for dinner that Gerald the house manager arranged for our 35th anniversary. I highly recommend going there it was absolutely beautiful and great food. We also went fishing one day and only caught 2 fish but was a nice boat ride to see the coast line.. The beach was great and the bar tenders were really great guys. We got to see turtles hatch and be released and 3 different mornings there was new turtle nest that had been made over night..Gerald also brought motorcycle to the house for my husband to ride.and set up a massage for myself 2 different times at the house that was great We will definitely be returning. We met lots of great people all very nice. Thanks for sharing your home. Deana and Russell.

Why leave?

My husband and I stayed here with our 10 year old daughter for 5 nights in March 2018. First off, the pictures do not do this place justice. This home, and the others surrounding it are high-end homes with gated security. The owners are amazing to work with - offering us great travel tips, etc., prior to our stay. We quickly settled into a routine while at the treehouse: breakfast on the deck (where we saw monkeys every morning, and dolphins in the water), spent the mornings on the beach, lunch at the house where we would then play in the pool for about 2-3 hours before heading back to the beach to play some more and watch the beautiful sunset. This was our daily routine for 5 days. We considered taking a boat to San Juan but simply couldn't bring ourselves to leave. The beach is beautiful and clean; very safe. One day we wandered over to Gigante just to say we went to another beach, and it was beautiful and sandy and had nice, calm waves (although a bit of a trash problem as, it seems, all of Nicaragua struggles with). Before settling into the treehouse, I would recommend stocking up on groceries at Colonial, because, really...you won't want to leave this place! The treehouse has a fully stocked kitchen with purified water available to you. Gerald, the house manager, speaks English very well and is very helpful if you need anything! Prior to staying at the treehouse, we spent 3 nights in Grenada doing all our travel adventures there, so having the treehouse at the back end of our trip was perfect. I have never seen my husband so relaxed. When I first booked this place, I thought "really, am I actually going to see monkeys here?" But, yes, you will see lots of monkeys. One large male came down to our pool one morning and took a long drink of water. We saw babies even. It was just the three of us staying here, but a large family would be very comfortable. I imagine this being an ideal getaway for a large family at Christmastime. What a dream come true!

Beautiful House in a great location

We stayed here for a week in February. The house was beautiful! It had gorgeous views of the ocean and monkeys that came and sat in the trees every morning. The Beach was less than a 5 minute walk away. The beach is shared with the aqua wellness resort, so you just follow a stone path down to the beach. The Beach was usually quite deserted, so it was nice to have it almost to ourselves. There is a small pool at the house that we enjoyed using when not at the beach. Gerald, the house manager, spoke English well. He was willing to help us with whatever we needed. We did day trips to popoyo, sjds, Granada and masaya volcano. We had a great trip. Thank you for your hospitality.

Excellent and beautiful home

For the price and location, this house is absolutely worth it. One of the best houses I have stayed at in all of Nicaragua, and I've stayed in many. The house comes stocked with most things you might need and is absolutely gorgeous. If you're planning to go to San Juan del Sur a lot, it may not be ideal because it is rather far from the city, but for a quiet, peaceful getaway, this house is ideal. Would highly recommend to anyone.

Beyond expectation in almost every way!

From the moment we arrived to the final goodbyes to the monkeys and the sea, our stay was unforgettable. The house was great and the location amid the Panama Trees and foliage, was perfect. From the upper deck we could see three different bays through the trees. My wife and I brought our 3 adult children, all of whom have been to Nica several times. We went to El Gigante and the kids took a day trip to Ometepe, which was arranged by Grace, the property manager. Having the Aqua Wellness resort just steps away was a blessing. The ONDA Restaurante was excellent, though pricey. My daughter said the dish she had one night was the best fish she'd ever had! A word about the monkeys - We felt like we were in a National Geographic special on Howler Monkeys. They were our almost constant companions in the trees around the house, howling when vehicles would pass by the house and other random times. There were 3 babies monkeys in the group that were cute beyond words with their little spindly bodies clinging to their mothers and venturing off from time to time to practice their tree navigating skills. And then there's Redonda Beach - It was beautiful, clean and not over-run with people! One day we climbed the ridge across the bay almost to the top via a very steep trail and was greeted by spectacular views. We hiked to the cave on the far side of the bay with tide pools with sea urchins. Easy to imagine pirates hiding there back in the day. The last day we took a panga ride to some islands for snorkeling, fishing, pelican viewing and just plain fun. My son caught a good sized Grouper. We have been to Nicaragua many times and would have to say this is one of the best places we've stayed in terms of peace, rest and beauty. The memories will linger... at least till we return. :-) Thanks so much Ron for for your wonderful house and making this great time possible for me and my family!

Great place for family

My family really enjoyed our stay. The location is amazing. Very beautiful views and beach. Community is very safe, felt fine with our daughters running down to the beach on their own, etc. It is a very secluded and private community, away from towns. Has it's own restaurant and serves as a self contained resort with all you'll need except groceries. If you are surfing you will have to head 5 minutes north to Playa Amarillo or Playa Colorado. Or get a launch to Play Manzanillo. No surf at Play Redonda. We had some mechanical issues and the manager and the owner were very responsive. There were workers there within an hour! The manager even had some new beach toys set out for our daughters... The pool was incredible, howler monkeys hang out in the tree right above you while you are floating. The rooms are great. Hot water great. Water pressure great. Has laundry. Has cable, internet, etc.... Totally recommend!
