Nice Place, but construction happening on two lots
There are two active construction sites w/ one next door (between this rental and Nate's stone house mentioned in the listing). The second, a new remodel, is two lots up the street. We traveled with an infant and dog and would have skipped this property had we known about the construction.
The good news: This is a really nice little place in that it's a clean recent remodel, with nice kitchen/bath, and a great A/C (it was ~100°F the first day there!). The property is walk-able to almost all Colonial Beach's shops and restaurants, and it's very quiet at NIGHT.
The bad news (for us at least): We booked on the 18th of August and I just can't see how the construction next door was that far along but never mentioned. During Friday and Saturday of our stay the work crew was wrapping the house in Tyvek and starting roofing. Instead of planned quiet afternoon naps, lunches on the porch, and some relaxing beach time we got to be serenaded by air-powered nail guns, hammers, and table saws. With our infant in tow we weren't able to just leave the house for 8-10 hour stretches, although we did get out as much as we could.
There are many Adirondack chairs here but only two which weren't broken on the right arm. Four more were very visibly broken and stacked in the back yard which; surprisingly, doubled as the construction lots storage area. Lastly, there's a 7' or 8' wooden fence on the construction lot currently and it blocks half of this rentals porch-view to the beach.
This was our first time to Colonial Beach. The neighborhood is great and we took many walks with our pup. We were able to walk many places to get food/coffee. The home was clean and the beds were comfortable. The place has the normal wear and tear of a rental and the host asked us to text with any issues/or possible repairs which was great. .
The highlight of the house is the little private beach and semi-private dock. The dock is a nice size and feels really sturdy. You can also see the water from the deck and get some breezes coming off the river. The location is really close to the little downtown area so you can pretty much walk anywhere. The house looks recently remodeled and very clean. The kitchen had modern appliances and plenty of counter room for cooking. Perfect size for a couple of adults or a family. The owner is very helpful and we had no issues during our stay. We will be back for sure!
Cute little house in a nice quiet neighborhood. The private beach area was perfect for taking our dog into the water, and we appreciate how the town was so pet friendly . Loved the quaintness of the area, how friendly everyone was, and the ease of getting around in the golf cart. The owner is very communicative and provided us with a smooth process throughout. An overall enjoyable and relaxing experience…we would stay here again!
Property was clean and exactly as described. We thoroughly enjoyed walking everywhere - to restaurants, the public beach, sweet local neighborhood. Bonus bird viewing (in May) with the pair of osprey nested by the water, feeding their babies. Very relaxing visit. Would definitely stay here again on our next trip to Colonial Beach.
My family and I needed a mini vacation to start off the New Year right. The three of us and our senior pup had a wonderful stay at this cozy and quiet oasis. We enjoyed how close it was to town and that everything was within walking distance. The town was welcoming and we enjoyed walking the dog each night along the beach. We would highly recommend this cottage for families with or without kids. The private beach and dock area is breathtaking and nice to have all to yourself, or at least your family and the family in the stone house. Great host who was communicative from the start. No problems. Would be happy to return. Thank you Nate!
Great communication with host from start to finish. A great lil' town for sure. Even in the winter!!! My wife and I went to GW's birthplace, Dockside, Ice House, CB Brewery, Julie's Coffee House, several beaches (lots of sea glass!), Gitie's Thrift Warehouse, and so much more. We missed out on Bobby K's Roadside Cafe because they were closed for a private party... next time for sure! The home itself was awesome. Very clean and everything you need. Only one house between the rental and the beach! The host owns that house too... LOL. We had a great time. Thank you!
We had a wonderful stay at this home-beautiful views, lovely large porch overlooking the Potomac and the house is in a great location within walking distance from the main area of the town. Would definitely recommend it and would stay here again in a heartbeat!
Perfect cozy cottage, clean, tastefully decorated with nice yard & great views. Lovely neighborhood with great views of the Potomac. Look forward to returning & bringing more of my family to share both of your locations.
We enjoyed our stay over the Fourth of July weekend. The town of Colonial Beach was very quiet! Except for the weekend, not much is happening, shops are closed and very little night life or shopping during the week. Great property to just chill and get away. Decent fishing from shared dock. Beautiful sunsets!
This is NOT a place to party! Very laid-back neighborhood.
